On one hand I understand that since the pro-abortion-rights/pro-choice camp prefer to call it a fetus so it's less humanizing, some people don't like the term "fetus" applied to babies. However, it is, quite frankly, a fetus, by definition. It's like being mad if Navratalova called her breasts "mammary glands."

You're not supposed to refer to a human fetus as such. It is both rude and cruel. A woman may only address it as "My precious little angel". This should be followed by a gentle rubbing of her belly and baby-speak. Anything less is indicative of demonic and/or communist leanings.

Joking aside, the view that most people take of the sanctity of the life of a fetus has no biblical basis. In the Hebrew Bible, the restrictions on killing fetus' has more to do with not harming the property of another than the intrinsic worth of the fetus itself. In fact, Jewish commentary explicitly makes the argument that the fetus is not a person and one is actually required to perform an abortion if it threatens the life of the mother, who is a person.

It's not until you get to Augustine and the other Church Fathers that the understanding that it's morally repugnant to kill a fetus develops.
