Teach Sex Ed(Wi) ==> Goto Jail

DA to teachers: New sex ed course could get you arrested
Quote:
A district attorney in Juneau County, Wisconsin, warned teachers in a memo sent to schools that if they teach the new sexual education curriculum mandated under state law, they could be arrested for contributing to the delinquency of a child.
Because the law requires teachers to instruct children not only about contraceptives but about how to use them, Juneau County District Attorney Scott Southworth said, schools are forced to encourage students to "engage in sexual behavior, whether as a victim or an offender."
And since minors can't legally have sex in Wisconsin, teachers would essentially be endorsing the behavior and could be held liable, Southworth said in the letter.
"It is akin to teaching children about alcohol use, then instructing them on how to make mixed alcoholic drinks," he wrote.
In his letter, Southworth said the law would convert sex education classes "into a radical program that sexualizes our children as early as kindergarten. This, in turn, will lead to more child sexual assaults."
Southworth sent the letter to five school districts and said they should drop all sex education curriculum until the law could be changed

Remember kids, all sex is icky bad unless you're making a baby, and even then, try to enjoy it as little as possible!

"In Wisconsin, we prefer our teachers keep our children ignorant."

I thought the right hated activist judges.

Or does that not extend to DAs.

Do these kids live in houses where they don't have TV or computers? This Southworth guy is hilariously out of touch. I mean if there's anyone that's going to make sex as unappealing as possible, it's the gym teacher.

:: sigh ::

A very dear friend of mine is a nurse and a sex/ health educator in the Milwaukee Public School system. She deals with middle schoolers. She's told me stories about pregnant 13-year-olds. I want this flathead to hang out with her for a day.

So it's mandated by law, yet you can get arrested for teaching it? who was asleep at the wheel on this one?

Anyways, it's the parents that should begin teaching about sexual education, not the schools. But I know first hand that parents tend to just ignore it all together until it becomes a problem.

And this is a piss-poor analogy:

"It is akin to teaching children about alcohol use, then instructing them on how to make mixed alcoholic drinks," he wrote.
A better analogy would be, "It is akin to teaching children about alcohol use, then instructing them on how to call a cab if they're too drunk drive."

God, someone needs to start a blog called "Bad Analogies Made By Conservatives".

Grab that brass ring, Scott! You can do it!

There isn't enough alcohol and cigarettes on the planet that could temper my anger if I started a project like that.

That is a true Catch 22. Be fired from your job or go to jail. State Law has left no other options

This DA is actually suggesting that at times the child is asking for it.

This illuminates the terrifying universe that a conservative lives in. Victim or offender - that's not a lot of options. But people under 18 shouldn't know about sex, right? Obviously they need to be locked up if they do.

Conservatives see "the liberals" as a threat to their children. I realize this isn't anything new in American society. But all that's keeping some really, really unfortunate business from breaking out in that country, is that cons still haven't really picked out an identifiable group as liberal. Everybody who isn't white obviously qualifies to them, but their rage does extend to other whites.

Louse I do agree with you almost 100%, but I think that there *is* a valid concern (even if it's not being expressed by the DA or Republicans) which is that Sex Ed if taught too early can be traumatizing. My mom gave me "the talk" when I was like four or five years old and it left me completely freaked out. I broke down in tears and everything. Simply put, I was just not ready to process that kind of information. By the time I got to 4th grade and we learned about it in school I had no problem with the subject matter.

I thought it was pretty dead on, in the sense that if you don't teach teenagers how to mix drinks they're still going to drink get drunk anyway. Maybe T.V and Movies have lead me astray but I was under the assumption that Americans had heard of beer.

I kind of like this total mom comment on the CNN page:

"Showing children how something works does not incline them to use that knowledge. I've shown my children several times how the vacuum and dishwasher work but have yet to see them use them."

As a parent, I agree! Course it also applies to spouses as well.

I really doubt they actually plan to teach sex ed in kindergarten. The right has made those hyperbolic comments before.
