Good Concert Films on Blu-Ray

My father-in-law has an HDTV, a Blu-ray player, and no Blu-Ray discs. He loves rock music and concerts, so I thought a good concert film on Blu-ray would be a good gift for him. He mostly like classic rock (loves the Stones) but likes modern stuff like Vampire Weekend and Kings of Leon as well. Mostly I'm looking for something that he'd be able to get into but could also serve as a demonstration of his Entertainment Center's awesome power.

Any suggestions?

"Shine a Light" is awesome on Blu-Ray.

I'd imagine so. My only reservation is that it's a recent Stones performance, though I bet he wouldn't mind that too much.

I just saw that The Last Waltz is available on Blu-Ray. Anyone have this? How's the transfer?

Stop Making Sense, of course. Not only is it the best concert film ever, but it sounds great on Blu-ray. The picture quality isn't a knock-out but it's good; it's an improvement over the DVD, it's solid, and looks like it should (there's lots of grain due to the low-light conditions it was shot in).

I heard it's a nice disc, though I haven't seen it myself. Here's a review:

Woodstock: 3 Days of Peace & Music Director's Cut (40th Anniversary Ultimate Collector's Edition)

The Complete Monterey Pop Festival- Criterion Collection

The T.A.M.I. Show Collector's Edition (not sure about blu, but the footage is so great it'll knock his socks off)

The Who: Live At The Isle Of Wight Festival 1970

A Hard Day's Night

Don't know if he'd be willing to make the musical leap, but in terms of sheer "holy shit" audio and video quality, Nine Inch Nails' Beside You In Time is pretty much the benchmark there.

Father-in-Law? Did I miss something?

If he likes ACDC, they did a decent live disc around 2008. You can't go wrong with Last Waltz, Rattle and Hum, Gimme Shelter, Woodstock, Monterey Pop or Roy Orbison: Black and White Night.

Tami Show didn't arrive on Blu. But, the DVD holds up well. It just might be a little harder to find at regular stores. Online outlets would be the best venues.

Transfer's solid for a disc that came out right at the start of the BR push. I can put up a few screenshots if need be.

Me and Carly aren't married, but I still use the term because it's easier than "my girlfriend's dad". Plus, I fucking hate her mother, and I wanted to finally be able to say that I hate my mother-in-law.

Carly said that her dad was talking about Last Waltz today and how much he loves it, so I think I'm going to go with that one for him and probably pick up Stop Making Sense for her while I'm at it.

Cool.

The Last Waltz can be picked up pretty cheap. Stop Making Sense should be anywhere between 20-25 dollars.

john mayer's "where the light is" looks and sounds fantastic....however, it's john mayer, your enjoyment completely rests on how much you can tolerate him.

Came in to say the exact same thing.

Also, David Gilmour's "Remember That Night" is a good one that's probably more up his alley.
