The Around Comics podcast kicked it this week. It was a welcome change from the innumerable fanboy podcasts during its long run. Sal, Chris, and Tom (with frequent guest John Siuntres and unfortunate short-lived co-host Skottie Young) did a pretty good job of profiling both the quality mainstream and the fringe. They thankfully knew the Millars, Kirkmans and Bendises of the world didn't need any more air time than those creators gave themselves and didn't feel obliged to stroke whatever was at the top of Diamond's list. They did 2 or 3 episodes with Cameron Stewart. Richard Starking. Ande Parks. Jason Aaron. Their final book discussion was Terry Moore's Strangers in Paradise. One of my favourite episodes was their 2-part interview with John Byrne, where he stated surprisingly that he didn't think much of the work he did during his sublime two years on Alpha Flight, that it was a throwaway project.
So long, AC. I'll miss you, and I bet many quality comic creators will as well.
