The 2010 NBA Playoffs - Page 2

You knew Denver was going to go away quickly when they came to Phoenix with 2 games left in the season and playoff positioning still at stake they got utterly railroaded to the point that the Suns didn't bother playing their starters in the 4th. That's a time when you should be gearing up to playoff basketball, positioning is still at stake and you just lay an egg like that? You aren't ready.

The Suns looked horrible to begin the game last night but came back strong. Their three wins have all been thumpings. The only 2 teams in the West I felt like they matched up poorly against were Portland and the Lakers. I think they're fine against San Antonio next round if they can keep themselves from thinking about history.

The Lakers will win huge tonight, and win the series (not sure if it will be in 6 or 7). Durant has impressed everybody, and shown that he's to be watched for years to come. If he somehow pulls the ZombieSonics through the Lakers in the first round it would be legendary. He's not legendary yet...I don't think.

Yeah, the challenge with the Suns in the next round is to put history behind them. Easier said than done. Oh well, it' aint the NBA post-season if the Suns don't play SA at some point. But this year,I think they can pull it off. Especially if Lopez plays. The Suns are pretty deep for the first time in a long time, and I'd LOVE to send Ginboli home. That guy just irritates me.

I think OKC is one or two players away from being a consistent contender. Durant's obviously a franchise player so that's taken care of. Get him a couple of good role-players, and they'll make some noise.

Westbrook is a step in the right direction. They could sign Bosh and get a serviceable center and be in pretty good shape.

Bosh would be a good addition to any squad.
Well, he's especially good for one with very little post game.

Harden isn't horrible either. He's young, and obviously doesn't have the potential of a Jennings but he was a good pick.

Certainly.

But who would choose to play in Oklahoma City over Miami, Chicago, LA, or New York? Would OKC get the nod over Dallas, Phoenix, or Boston? Third tier type free agents maybe. But I can't see a Wade, Bosh, or Johnson choosing to play there. And you need 2 Top tier players(or one Kobe/LeBron) to really compete.

Oklahoma is going to need to make some trades to get the players they need.

I see what you're saying and I think it's fairly accurate. I don't think any marquee guys will go there, but, if they overpay, they could get some good guys that might not get high enough offers from the places you mentioned.
OKC might be a bummer, but a decade of conference finals contention and a few shots at a title versus LeBron is a pretty tempting carrot. Have an off-season home in a nice area and buy an Oklahoma mansion for a tenth of what you'd pay in a big city... I could definitely see them getting some big names, pairing with Durant is nothing to sneeze at. And 20 million in OKC is like 30 million plus in NYC/LA/Chi/etc.

I think I just found a team to root for in the Eastern Conference. This video cracked me up.

What's even funnier, and probably unintentional, is the music used in this video contains the lyrics: "Here comes the boys from the South." Considering who they're playing -- and mocking -- someone blew the music choice.

Bango is a trip! I love that he/she waits for the girl in the portapotti to get started before tipping it over.

This Bango stunt is insane!

I just saw that stunt. That's fucking nuts. He is the LeBron James of mascots. Although I'm partial to the Phoenix Suns Gorilla myself.

At first, it looked like he might've hurt his bad knee again. That kind of incident is very common in the NBA and all it takes is the wrong kind of accident and he's done. For this year and possibly the next. And really, what has he done in this series? Nothing, that's what. Last night he almost tied me for points scored.

Even if they get by the Suns, they don't have the players to get by the Spurs or the Lakers. It's all risk and little reward for Roy to play now. It's a stupid, stupid decision.

I haven't had a chance to watch a lot of the LA/OKC games, but I tell you, from what little I've seen and hear, it looks like that Durant kid is for real. I hope OKC can pull the upset, but my brain doubts it. LA plays better when they're engaged and if OKC wins again, you can bet OKC will have their full attention. That being said, I keep hearing Kobe is hurting more than he's letting on. If that's the case, who knows.

Denver is damn mess. Goodbye Nuggets...and take that irritating bird-guy with you.
Have we as sports fans gone from cheering Willis Reed for leaving it all out on the floor and playing on one leg to chastising Roy for similar such heroics? There's no guaranteed window of opportunity. This year's playoffs are wide open, and I commend the decision to seize the day and fight for a shot.

What's with all you guys conceding series before they're even played? With that attitude why even watch?

I'm getting a kick out of NBATV's coverage of the Boston/Miami game. Tommy Heinsohn's pro-Celtic bias is hysterical. He's spazzing out over every single questionable call. I was practically rolling on the floor after one especially exasperated sigh. Old school!

The Heat closed within...3, but then were stopped by a wall of...Celtic Pride, and went cold! If the...Heat lose FA Dwayne Wade, it will be more upsetting than losing to the Celtics.
Give me one basketball-related reason why Wade should stay. I just don't see it.
Don't the Heat have the money to bring in a couple of impact players? I heard it said they can afford a premiere FA and a second tier but still All-Star caliber player.

It's a stable franchise/organization that has won a championship in the last six years. There is young talent to deal, and Riley has proven he's unafraid to shake things up quickly with big moves.

What's a better situation for him to bolt to? Chicago, maybe.

Yeah, well, I had the Nuggets in Six over Utah.

Phoenix is up 12 points at the half. Well, I guess it's not an NBA post season unless the Suns play the Spurs.
Looks like OKC is LA's toughest out on the road heading to the finals. Wouldn't have called that at the start of this thing.

Aww shit, James.

Man, watching Rasheed Wallace makes my heart hurt.
Damm, Celtics came so close to pulling the upset in game 1. They need to win to Game2 to have any chance in this series.

How much of this season have you watched? 9 points, 4 rebounds, 40% from the field on 22 mins a game. He's a joke.

Boston has to have everything go perfectly for them to win. Maybe they'll get a game or two. Win the series? No shot. Believe me I wish they would beat Cleveland and Orlando. Then the Lakers would win another ring. But the Celtics don't have it in them.
Well, time for the Hawks to win to punch a ticket to a second round sweep from the Magic. If this series hadn't gone the distance, I actually would have given my guys a shot to take it to Orlando. Instead, it's just going to be what happened against Cleveland last year.

Maybe, JUST maybe, they'll get a defense and depth in the off-season.

Magic 93, Hawks 76
Magic 113, Hawks 81
Magic 104, Hawks 86
Hawks 86, Magic 84

Good luck with that.

Honestly, I'm relieved we got the Hawks instead of the Bucks. That Milwaukee team would have been crazy confident if they'd gotten out of the first round.
If by some off chance we take it to seven, I'll give us a shot. Otherwise I expect the Magic in five.
Speaking of the Magic, you know what this postseason is lacking?

Hedo Turkoglu!

I miss that crazy, pregame-pizza eating bastard!

Considering his bad year with Toronto, I'm sure Hedo misses the old "Magic" Turkoglu as well.

It was an old-fashioned ass-kicking.

Great D. The C's shooters were more aggressive, and they got the ball to KG inside. He was killing Jamison.

Biggest factor continues to be Rondo. He is constantly breaking 'em down, setting teammates up and finishing when need be. <He had one sick fake that should be become a classic hi-lite)

Holy shit...!

If Jamison had hit that 3, might have been a back-breaker.

And the Suns are falling apart again.

Oh well -- it's been a nice season.

Magic haven't lost a game since April 2nd. I don't think they'll sweep the Hawks though.
Their real test is the next round... for some reason I feel like they aren't as good as they seem. But if/when they get to the finals they're probably winning.

Ha! I just read this. I like to see you tripping on that.

If the Suns win tonight, they'll finish the series in 5. If they lose it goes all the way to 7. I think the Suns win either way, but I'll be sweating it if the series goes to 7.

Dude, I don't know if I can watch this game tonight. I had to turn off Game 1 for a bit in the 3rd quarter.

I feel like Indy in Raiders. "The Spurs...why did have to be the Spurs..."

That being said, if Grant Hill and Jason Richardson have good games, then it's ours. Still, I'd feel a whole lot more Disney-er if Rolo was in the middle.

Dunno. Not sure the Hawks are mentally tough enough to bounce back from that level of a beating. That was unbelievable.

I still like the Spurs winning tho.

I think Orlando wins Game 2 at home, gets complacent, and drops Game 3 in Atlanta. Then they wake up and finish it in five.
Way to go, Hawks. Quitting in a playoff game like that is just one of the many reasons nobody in town gives much of a shit.

At this point Richardson is obviously the key. That alone scares the hell out of me. Lopez being back will be key for the Lakers series, but it's not necessary for this series. Duncan obviously can't guard Amare at all any more. Amare has always played well against them, but the speed difference between Amare and Duncan is so pronounced now. Lopez being in would give Duncan a slow post player to stand next to, this series the Suns are actually better off with Frye because the Spurs are afraid to put Duncan on him out at the 3 point line which forces him to try to guard Amare.

I agree with your analysis generally. What really concerns me is the Spurs are obviously going to take it to Nash tonight and, historically, they can do that. If Nash can't distribute the ball well, it's over.

I did see some good things in game 1, though. We beat the Spurs on the boards, we beat them on fast break points and we limited the fouls in the second half. If the Suns can do all that again, and eliminate the turn-overs, then I think we have a fighting chance.

I'm still pessimistic though. Mssrs Duncan and Parker have spoiled many a spring for me. And Popovich is a great coach. Gentry's proving his mettle, but I think Popovich is a better tactician.

Oh, and by the way, here are two handy phrases to yell at Ginobli:
1) Tu cazzo!
2) Tu pezzo di merda

Still feeling that prediction?

My guess is the Spurs win game 3. Too much on the line there, too much emotion, too much pride, home crowd. I think the Suns close it out in 5 at this point though. Face it, last night was exactly the kind of game the Spurs win against the Suns every time. These aren't the same Spurs, and these aren't the same Suns. The Suns match up really well with the Spurs which is what I'd said at the beginning.

The Lakers (assuming the Suns get there)...I'm not as thrilled about. The Suns will absolutely need Robin Lopez back, the Lakers aren't playing like they're unbeatable, but I still hate that matchup.
