Does America still need my help?

I think it does.

And the cameos? Sub-mariner! Wonderman (I thought Cap was calling him 'Mendoza')! Wasp!

Attention Joss Whedon! Adapt this into a two-hour fever dream.

Gotta love that "Giant Robot" is a Sentinel, but the Japanese clearly said "Yeah, like we havent seen giant robots before" and gave it a generic name.

It is time:

Yes, I believe we're all bad enough dudes to rescue the president from ninjas.

Except for, apparently, asshole in the shades. Where the fuck was he when I was getting my taint kicked in by ninjas attacking me on top of a moving truck?

Prepping Ronnie's burguers, of course.

hahaaaa, i just found this nice little article on "old school iron man games" and part one of the feature is Captain America and the Avengers.

Iron man was my favorite character in that game... loved how the kill shot from his repulsor would vaporize the common enemies.

One other big thing that Data East forgot: The unibeam. It's arguably Tony's coolest power, and it isn't even in there. (But apparently they could give one to Mecha-Red Skull...)

Iron Man: FFFFUUUUUUU---

GOLDEN AXE holds a very special place in my heart, for I played that all the time with my best friend. These games are definitely more fun in two player. He was the Dwarf and I was the big guy, and I'd always be an asshole whenever we'd get to a cliff and kick his little Dwarf ass off it into the abyss below. Because I COULD, damnitt!

GHOULS N' motherfucking GHOSTS was one that haunted my childhood, mainly because I couldn't get past that fucking centipede. Then someone had it on the Wii and I finally defeated my demons and beat that motherfucker!

I absolutely loved Streets of Rage 2. Skate was the coolest fucking ever to a 12 year old kid.

Loved the X-Men arcade game, Simpsons Arcade game and the Punisher one.

The beat'em up that I played the most was probably Gauntlet: Dark Legacy. My buddy and I pumped shit tons of quarters into that game. Blue archer needs sustenance indeed.

Man, I can vaguely remember a brawler on the SNES (slight chance it was Genesis, but I'm fairly certain it was not) which had kind of a gangster theme. Very SOR, but you'd be fighting against trench-coated thugs, power-up weapons included tommy guns & the likes.. and from what I recall first level included a bonus section where you beat up a car (they probably ripped that from Final Fight).

Can't for the life of me remember the name. I think it was pretty good though. Anybody have a clue?

Simpsons, the X-Men the Avengers, Final Fight and Ninja Turtles were the shit! They still get plenty of play on my PC... Damn it those games are still hard as hell.
At my local mall, the arcade would place a TV on top of the cabinet so all the poor suckers (including myself) could watch all the fun when their mother would not cough up any quarters.

My favorite arcade experience, back in High School, my friend and I would head to the arcade every Friday night with $5 reserved for Gauntlet Legends! Damn game let you save your character.

Red Wizard needs food badly!

(Yes, we did do this every Friday for like 2 months.. guys like us had no girlfriends at that point.)

cheftournel, If you could remember the company that made the game, you could check out...KLOV.com, which does have a...Huge list of video games, with screens.

Turtles in Time for 360 blows. Aesthetics aside (graphics and 16-bit music are a million times better), the game isn't the same. The turtles move differently and it's much more difficult to throw enemies and connect with them in general. That, and the two levels from the SNES port are missing.

In my opinion, Castle Crashers is the best in the genre.

Hey Fleed, thanks but I've already found it! My memory played tricks on me somewhat... baddies on the 1st level had a mafia feel to them, but no trenchcoats. It's actually IRON COMMANDO.

Gave it another spin in my emulator, it's not stinking bad, but it ain't heaps of good either. Nice chunky graphic style, though.

TMNT III: The Manhattan Project on NES was pretty damn good. I believe it was the first one to give the turtles each their own special life-draining "A+B Button Together" special attack. The cool thing was, the attack didn't drain your life unless it actually connected with an enemy, so you could spam it while there were no enemies on screen. Also, once you were down to one energy bar, you could spam it as much as you wanted on enemies until you died from being hit.

^^^That fucking triceratops dude wasn't even in the game!

One of the 2 player modes allowed you to hit each other (why they included this, I have no idea).

Oh, and a variation of the Konami code works, allowing you to do stage select, set number of lives, and do a music select to listen to you favorite tunes from the game.

TMNT 2 The Arcade Game on NES also had a code that let you do something similar (I don't recall it being a variation of the Konami code though).

Speaking of TMNT music, not much beats the tunes of the NEON NIGHTRIDERS stage from TMNT IV: Turtles in Time though!

B, A, B, A, Up, Down, B, A, Left, Right, B, A, Start. Stage Select and 9 lives.

Goddamn, that was almost Pavlovian.

That's the debug code for Super Empire Strikes Back. Did not have to Google it. And despite commiting that to memory, my thumbs are no longer fast enough to punch in that code in time.

Also wanted to add that seeing Tokka and Rhazar in TMNT III/IV was like the greatest thing ever.

Slash on Hard Mode in Turtles IV on SNES can go to hell though.

Haha, I seem to recall that code from Super Empire Strikes Back, and you heard an R2D2 whistle when you input the code right IIRC. I think I still have the box, cartridge, and everything for that game! Same for Super Return of the Jedi. Somehow I never bought Super Star Wars though, but I rented it.
Gobblox, Super Star Wars, Super Empire Strikes Back and Super Return Of The Jedi are just as...Glorious as the NES Star Wars Trilogy games, and Sega's original Star Wars, and their late 90's Star Wars Trilogy. The Force is...Strong in all of these games.
God, fleed, those NES Star Wars games are terrible. They're way more difficult than the SNES ones and the levels were needlessly complex. The Japanese one where Darth Vader turns into a scorpion was way better.

And is anyone here really wondering why this genre is dead? The arcades dying are a big part of it along with first person shooters usurping beat-em-ups as the new genre to get cheap thrills but (at times) on a more complex level. The only way for beat-em-ups to survive in the current gaming climate (outside of nostalgia) is to bring something new and interesting to the gameplay and presentation, a la Castle Crashers.
Scott, Sure the Super Star Wars Games looked better, but I prefer the orginal 3 on the NES. Also give me a...Beat em up, a side scrolling shooter, top down shooter, on rails shooter with or without a light gun (Gunblade NY especially), fighting game over a first or third person shooter any day of the week. With Sin and Punishment 2, and the Gunblade NY/LA Machinegun compilation on the...Wii, later this year, I will finally have some on rails shooters, to play.

Also, Super Star Wars was a frame skipping glitchy fucking mess.

I would seriously rather have my penis chopped off and handed to me rather than be given a controller and asked to pull off any of the special Jedi move button combinations in that game.

Holy shit, Guardian Heroes! I played that at an Incredible Universe once a long time ago and was sad that I never got to play it again. I'm actually kinda afraid that it'll reveal itself to be a letdown if I ever got my hands on it again... but then again, Gunstar Heroes was still pretty fun.

Thanks for the trip down memory lane, guys. This was totally my language.

Just to rattle off a few more titles I don't think you guys mentioned, not that I think these were particularly great.

Sonic Blast Man
Comix Zone (I think that's the spelling...)
River City Ransom (loved this one for some reason, but never beat it)
