Here's a freebie for any of you folks excited for the game. There was some pre-order bonus on Amazon with Dead Rising 2 that didn't show up, so folks cried about it and everyone got a code for 50% of Marvel vs. Capcom 3.

This code's only going to work once, so you'll need to get your ass to Amazon pretty quick if you want to use it.

The remaining characters are Hsien-Ko (Darkstalkers), Sentinel, Akuma and Taskmaster, with Galactus being the final boss. Really looking forward to trying out Phoenix, especially after Seth Killian's recent comments: "Remember all those hacked versions of Street Fighter II? Where there'd be 40 fireballs on screen or something like that? She's kind of like that, on purpose."

It appears all the characters have specific intro/victory comments for each character. In Deadpool's case, his taunt after beating Magneto is "I just beat Mag-freakin'-neto! Where yo curleh mustache at?"

I'm mostly just happy I have a half-decent excuse to post this again:

Sentinel Red, That is so...Awesome!  Including Villains like, Taskmaster (a cool Avengers Villain) a Sentinel, and Galactus, is just...Neat!  The only characters I would have loved to see in, MVC 3, that aren't are Iron Fist, Punisher, and The Silver Samurai.  Strider would have been nice as well.  Phoenix vs Galactus, should be...World Devouring Fun! Maybe, if there is a...Super Marvel Vs Capcom 3 in 2012, there will be still more additions.

The closest you'll get to the Punisher is one of Captain America's alt costumes (it's a grey/black version with a skull on it, apparently the Punisher dressed up as him or something?). Other alt costumes include:

Doom: Doom 2099 colours

Hulk: Grey; Red Hulk

Iron Man: Stealth Armour; Mk II plain; Silver Centurion

Spider-Man: Black costume; Iron Spider; some sort of Tron-ish black with neon green lighting

She Hulk: some new redhead She-Hulk in a Frightful Four outfit; Red She-Hulk; Ultimate She-Hulk

Wolverine: Age of Apocalypse; classic 80s brown; some new black and grey black-ops one

As far as the DLC guys go, Jill is basically all new based on her Resident Evil 5 look/abilities. Oh and there was a voting thing going on one of the Capcom sites regarding who else people would like to see so all of you go vote and get Strider Hiryu in or I shall be very cross and cry buckets when it turns out to be some schmuck like Barry Burton or the gorilla from God Hand instead.

In less than...3 Weeks from now, Marvel vs Capcom 3, arrives on the Xbox 360 and PS3!  With some exceptions, I find the lineup...MARVELous!

The Special Edition is sold out at both GameStop and Amazon. One of my coworkers just preorded it today.

I took Feb.15th and 16th off - God bless vacation days.  I think this is going to be a really big success for Capcom.

I was fortunate enough to get to play this last week. Most surprising was finding out just how much of a glass cannon Phoenix is - you're going to have to be absolutely top of your game to use her else she'll get taken from 100% to 0 in a almost single combo. Even assists could turn out horrendously risky and none of us were able to keep her alive long enough to build enough meter to see her resurrect into Dark Phoenix.

Other impressions:

She-Hulk's surprisingly good and a little like El Fuerte from Street Fighter 4, Amaterasu is an absolute beast and will likely annoy the crap out of people while she explodes the screen in waves of annihilating light, sound and flame. Spencer struck me as a character people will largely ignore but at their peril as he's quite tricksy, Deadpool was fun but limited, Dante ridiculously technical, Storm was as powerful as ever, Taskmaster and Thor both seemed rubbish and as for the final boss...

..well lets just say he's rather large. Yet compared to Abyss or Onslaught from the previous games, somewhat more fun to fight and easier to beat.

There's video on Kotaku of the final boss. Not nearly as impressive as I hoped. But then, none of this series' bosses have really gotten the "Holy SHIT we're FUCKED" reaction they hoped for out of me, other than Onslaught.

The boss reminds me a lot of Abyss.  You're right, though- nothing as bad ass as Onslaught.

WOW!  It is less than...2 weeks till, Marvel Vs Capcom 3 arrives for the 360 and PS3!  There is no other game that I am more excited to play this year.  MVC3, should just be...MARVELous!

Remember when I said Phoenix had obscenely bad health? Well here's health totals for everyone:

Sentinel - 1.3mil (ahaha, the guy with an insane 99% non-X-Factor combo is also hardest to kill)
Thor - 1.25mil
Hulk/Haggar/Tron - 1.2mil (I unironically love that Tron Bonne is as tough as the Hulk)
She-Hulk - 1.15mil
Chris/Taskmaster/Wesker - 1.1mil
Captain America/Spencer - 1.05mil
Dormmamu, Doom, Ryu, Skrull - 1mil
Iron Man, Morrigan, Joe, MODOK, Wolverine - 950k
Dante, Viper, Deadpool, Hsien-Ko, Spidey - 900k
Felicia - 875k
Chun, Magneto, Storm Trish - 850k
X-23 - 825k (listed as 925..but in the character order it'd be here...so not sure.)
Amatarasu, Zero, Akuma, Arthur - 800k
Phoenix/Dark Phoenix 420k (it's really going to take some crazy good play to make her work...)

Now I've finished Dead Space 2, I'm just counting down the days till this is out. Really absolutely cannot wait.

I've been playing fighting games for a little under 20 years now, and I have no idea what in the name of Christ the King's sanguine loincloth those numbers mean.

And we're in the home stretch, guys. Seven days to go.

Hey, in the meantime, here's a video of people already doing ungodly combos.

Basically, in Training Mode you can get a numerical output for each move/combo for the amount of damage you do and instead of being just 0-100, it's measured in the thousands and by using and comparing it, that's how you can work out Sentinel has 1.3 'million' health, Phoenix only has 420k, etc.

Encouragingly, it's looking from recent videos that practically everyone's viable in their own way. Thor - completely written off by fans and even pros until now - is revealed as an absolute wrecking ball of awesomeness and even though Phoenix has been seen as a gimmicky waste of space, the more time people spend with Dark Phoenix, the better she's looking as even her normal attacks do a chip damage in that form, never mind all the homing fireballs she's filling up the screen with. Chun Li seems to be the best character overall so far, mind.

Ahh. Gotcha. Thanks.

Bit the bullet and pre-ordered this. I may even have home internet and thus XBox Live  back by then. I look forward to whaling on some of you.

Dark. Phoenix. Rises.

"You may DIE you may DIE you may DIEEEEEE", indeed. Don't worry, it's counterbalanced by the fact Hulk can kill her in just two hits.

I think I may have to make friends with her. Seems like she'd be rewarding to learn.

I picked this up today for the 360. If you got it add me and we can kick the shit out of each other. My Gamertag is Ky1er84.

Chun Li is always the best.

First impressions after playing MvC3 for a day - just great.  I've really just been experimenting with everyone, but I really like using MODOK.

There are alot of "secret cameos" from characters in the Marvel and Capcom universes. Almost crapped myself when I saw Daredevil.

Yeah, from end to end, this is just amazing. The new control system takes some getting used to, but still flows like water. Love the new art style to death. But holy shit, the later stages do not fuck around in terms of difficulty. Give an enemy an opening, they will make you pay for it, hard, fast, and beautifully. And yet, it somehow manages to never get cheap about it, though the game is a little more lenient than ever before about special moves breaking through a Super Combo in a way that's annoying, but not unfair. That article Trevor wrote about games being punishing? Here's Exhibit A of someone getting it right.

And while Galactus himself is no pushover, it's the Wesker-Dormammu Rape Alliance that does the real damage during that fight.

Still. Absolutely loving this.

If  Mr. Spoiler-text up there was actually a playable character in this game, I wouldn't be able to put off buying it till it hits the clearance racks.

Just sayin, Marvel.  (X-23?  Really?)

I am about to lose every ounce of credibility I have on these boards but here goes:

I get absolutely annihilated when I go near Marvel vs Capcom 2. Is this one forgiving to the more casual gamer?

There's a Simple Mode where you get one button that does EVERYTHING, at the cost of being able to execute some of the more powerful moves. Tried it last night, and while it took some effort to suppress most of my instincts, it definitely works for some basic, effective combat.

Hmmm, do I eat this week or buy Marvel v Capcom 3?

I don't have any credibility to lose, but, yeah.  This, too.  >.>

Also, someone with more attentive ears: I can hear the difference when you switch the music to Dynamic, but I may be missing something when it comes to setting Effects to Dynamic. Whats the upshot?

I won't be getting a copy until Friday. I am intensely envious of you guys.

*sob*

It's just so awesome.

Hey, Capcom remembered that they needed more money, so downloadable costume DLC will be here soon.

Here's a pic of Cap (with classic shield) going at it against Street Fighter I Ryu.

MVC3 Costumes

After being duped by Street Fighter 4's locked on disc costumes that you pay to unlock, I'm never buying locked on disc DLC unlock keys ever again.

Capcom is one of the worst perpetrators of this trend.  The game is good and all but DLC should be actual added on content, not just stuff built in and held back in order to nickel & dime the fans.

Yeah yeah if I don't want it I should have no reason to complain right? But it always starts somewhere.  Today its ancillary stuff like costumes or weapons, tomorrow it could be  final levels and final boss fights if enough people give in to this BS.   Some publishers are already experimenting with this by holding back certain middle sections of some games only to be released later on as bonus lost chapters or whatever.

Yep.  Ubisoft tried that bullshit tactic after the last Prince of Persia game.  They ended the disc on a cliff hanger, then wanted you to spend $15 for the ending that came out a month later.  Fuck that shit.

Marvel Vs Capcom 3 is...Easilly, The best game of, 2011!  I am of course biased, as a 2.5D Superhero slugfest of MARVELous proportions, is just so...Epic!  Sure, not all characters can be included, but I was still not expecting...20 characters less than MVC 2!  Wolverine is just as fun to play as in the previous installment, and getting to fight Galactus is...Awe-Inspiring!

Oh really?  I did not know that, I was mainly referencing Assassins's Creed 2 with its 2 "lost" middle chapters that made more sense out of a confusing time jump, which is coincidentally also from Ubisoft.  You play them after you complete the main game, which help fill in the story gaps.  They were actual DLC but they basically purposefully held them back to charge you more.

Didn't Alan Wake do something similar?  End on on confusing cliffhanger and then release a small extension to further end/explain stuff?

I forgot to mention in my earlier post that from now on I research beforehand whether a cool looking bit of DLC is actual added-on contend or just kilobytes of an unlock key.

So given the differences, which system would you guys recommend this for?  The Xbox has better online capabilities, but I'm worried that the controller stick might not be as good as the decent pad that the PS3 has (Yes, I learned to play these games on home systems and not in the arcade.  Sue me).

360. And yes, I'm using the D-Pad. Both MvsC games so far have been kind to the 360's shortcoming there. And, of course, there's the not-borked online lobby system.

Ahahahaha, I'm so horrendously terrible at this game it's hilarious.

It'll get easier. Took me a day to get that "Beat The Game Without A Continue" achievement on normal.

Also, I feel almost guilty about how quickly Dante, Trish, and Deadpool became my team of choice. I hate all three of these assholes as characters, but god damn, they are so much fun to play.

Deadpool's ending, and Fourth Wall Crisis mark the first time I've laughed at him in a long time.

I can beat the computer just fine but online I suck. I haven't won one match. I was playing a dude who would juggle me into the air, call in each assist in the air one at a time and finish with Wolverine's giant X attack all in midair. so basically one hit and i'm dead. I am bitter.

You do know you can counter when that happens, right?

The physical copy of Alan Wake has it's own ending but, the DLC's alter the original ending.

And MvC 3 is alright so far. When I play it, I have alot of fun, but as soon as I stop, I start bitching to people about how all the crazy shit that happens on screen pisses me off. I like playing as Spencer, Skrull, and Dante the most.

i don't know anything about this game except what I learned in the hour I spent playing it!

That might have been me since I do that everytime I have Logan on my team.  My bad.  But you can counter team air combos, the character trying to tag out will get knocked back and the tag will fail.

Alex Augustine, You should play, Marvel vs Capcom 3 on, the...Very Easy Setting.  It works for me!  Marvel Vs Capcom 3 is just such an...Awesome, fighting game, I hope there is another lequel in less than, the...10 year wait between Marvel Vs Capcom 2 and Marvel VsCapcom 3!

So Jill and Shuma-Gorath are available as DLC...for $5 each!  Jeez, at that price MvC3 would have cost $160.  I'd like new characters, but not for that much.
