Top Gear US ...

How about no?

I don't know these guys at all but there's no way this will work. Half of Top Gear's fun is seeing which segment of the population they will piss off next. It could make for a nice section where Clarkson will insult and berate them, though.

And to top it off it's going to be on History Channel. What the fuck?

Totally agree, I breathed a sigh of relif when I read the Chud article this morning on the death of an American Dr Who, only to hear this news.

In the immortal words of James May - Cock!

If you follow SPEED network, you would know Rutledge Wood. He's like a superfreak gearhead who is always on this Nascar trivia show. So he would be the smart one.

Ferrara is a comedian, and he's pretty good on Rescue Me.

This is a bonus, so I don't mind.

Hmm weird Adam Carolla was supposed to do this originally.

At least Leno isn't doing this...

I read the headline about this, and my first thought was, "Let me guess: They'll make the show entertaining, so I'm guessing they'll add a comedian to make things 'fun.' " Not a jab at Ferrara, but the predictability of network executives grates.

I know they created a pilot for NBC in 2008. Was he co-host on that?

Yeah he was the main host with with Tanner Faust and Eric Stromer. NBC dind't pick up the pilot but a while ago on his podcast he mentioned that the history channel was picking it up and they called him to be the host. So I don't know if he turned it down or they just decided to go with Ferrera instead. Either way it kind of sucks given that Carolla is such a gear head.

Good, now maybe I can stop getting jokes about my name.

Hmmm, I have definite doubts on how well this will work on American TV. The BBC one is just so damn good and that perfect cast will be extremely hard to replicate. But I think the choices they have listed for cast make sense. You don't want a big name(s) and you want some folks with auto expertise. I say give it a shot, what the hell.

As for History channel, they made Pawn shops immensely entertaining so they're OK in my book. They can pull this off as well as any basic cable network can.

He's shooting a new pilot for CBS(?), so I'm guessing that overruled the Top Gear role.

The CBS pilot feel through so he moved on and did another pilot for NBC with a similar stryline I think. But thats the thing, new tv shows are always shaky and if they don't get ratings right away are yanked. Maybe he should have stuck with Top Gear although im guessing the history channel doesn't pay shit.

Its a good idea, half the fun of Top Gear is just the crazy challenging races/stunts. The best being when they went to Alabama (or somewhere down south). Hopefully it translates well.

So no Torchwood, yet we get a U.S. Being Human and a Life On Mars.

Every attempt at a Top Gear outside of the UK has failed for one very good reason, none of them can replicate the balanced entertainment chemistry perfection that is Clarkson, Hammond and May. That's the real reason why UK Top Gear is the most watched TV show across the world and why we've never seen a single non UK TG attempt even begin to replicate its phenomenal success.

I've never been a 'car guy', don't even have a drivers license, yet Top Gear is one of my favourite shows easily and that's because Clarkson, Hammond and May are three hosts you really enjoy spending time with for an hour every week.
