A buddy cop show with Bradley Whitford and Colin Hanks from the creator of Burn Notice. My love for Whitford compels me to check this out.

First promo on YouTube. Preview on May 19th and begins airing in June.

Didn't know Matt Nix was behind this. I was already on board because Whitford and his truly astonishing 'stache, but that's pretty cool.
Commercials have me sold on this. I'll check it out.
I'm in for at least a few episodes.
Definitely going to have to check this out.

Hanks is the question mark. He's a clone of his father minus the charisma.

Preview episode airs tonight at 8/7c.

Meh.

I laughed more at the Mexicans than the cops. Stick to Burn Notice, Matt.

"Statue of limitations." Maybe the Captain is Cosmo Kramer.
Bradley Whitford's constant "computer machine" was funny.

I liked this, but I don't know if this is going to be around for very long.
I DVR'd it, is it worth bothering?
Yeah, go for it. It's funny enough for a pilot.
On a scale of pretty awful to incredibly awful, how awful is Colin Hanks?
I thought he was OK, I enjoyed the show well enough. Burn Notice took some time get going, and this was just the Pilot, I'm gonna give the series a shot.
I like 'Burn Notice', I like Hanks, I love Whitford... but I didn't care for this. I think I laughed twice. Three times, maybe. I get the irreverent tone they were going for, but it never really worked for me (as opposed to, say, last year's 'The Unusuals'). Plus if the villain (Divoff!) in your pilot episode is much more engaging than your leads, something's up.

Also had the worst poor man's process shots in the final car chase. The shots of Hanks and Whitford looked like they were filmed in a tunnel.

I only made it about 20 minutes in because of Fox's cutting to commercial seemingly every 5 minutes. It's hard to really get a feel for something when the network doesn't give the show a chance to breathe before cutting away. I'm going to watch it off my DVR so I can fast forward through them.
This show just really felt confused to me. They have absolutely no idea how to balance the humor with the more serious portions of the show. It had it's moments, but even the musical cues seemed to not know from scene to scene whether something was being played for laughs or serious. There was nothing that made me think this show might grow into something great. It was okay, but I also don't see it getting a ton better.
Forgot to set my DVR for this one. Luckily, Fox has the Pilot available online.
It's also being re-run Monday which will be it's normal night.

Thought it was trying too hard, and Anachronistic Mustache Cop wasn't nearly as funny as the script seemed to think, but I might give it another chance. And I agree that the Assassin With a Conscience was easily the most intriguing character.
Definitely needs to settle on a tone. I don't need grimandgritty, but when the world's second best assassin doesn't seem all that bloodthirsty, you could go darker. Whitford seems such an odd choice for the former hot shot cop, but I appreciate the casting against type. And Colin Hanks continues his streak of barely registering.

I'll give it another shot, but if they can't make with some better laughs, and give me a few action beats that aren't so anemic, then I won't be around long. Also, I so didn't care about Hanks and the DA's past, present, or future.

I liked it. Sure it suffered big time from pilot-itis but it has potential. Although, it did give off the vibe of something USA passed on.

The quick commerical cuts were pretty bad, totally threw off the pace of the show. And they needed a real score for this. Seemed like every musical cue was just a Classic Rock song (like Thunderstruck when Whitford pulled up in the Firebird). That works maybe once per show, not all the time.

A few tweeks here and there and I think this could be a good show.
Whitford pulling up in the Firebird was probably the most enjoyable part of the episode for me though. And I guess his mistrust of computers and the constant mistakes when trying to say humidifier.

Hanks was alright but this is pretty well trodden territory. It did really have that USA vibe to it. Hopefully if it's on Fox it'll keep having a bit of a budget and a bit more edge.
So, the series is on now, and I think the episode flowed a lot better than the pilot. Even though there were a bunch of flashbacks.

Whitford's antics are fairly funny this time, and still calls it the computer machine. And Ms. Slater from Community appears in the episode, looking rather hot.

I can dig it, I guess.
Liked the second episode alot more....except for the excessive use of flashbacks.

It was a bit goofy but Whitfords rant against the Computer was freakin awesome.
wow cant belive this slipped under my radar, will defintely check it out , gotta love whitford
post #27 of 49
This show is just on this side of watchable for me. Then they say some like "flesh wrestle" and I almost choke on my drink.
The show seems to get a little better as each episode comes along. Here's hoping the show catches on enough to keep going even if it's just a summer series.

Wonder who they will get to play Whitfords ex-partner. I mean honestly it would be a shock if the guy doesn't show up.

Tom Hanks.

But seriously, the ratings aren't that good for this. I don't know if we'll get to that point.
I don't get the Colin Hanks dissing. The guy does some terrific straight-man work here.
I wasn't sold on the pilot, but eps 2 and 3 are bringing me around. Whitford just commits so totally to the ridiculousness of the character that it's hard not to be utterly charmed and intoxicated by it. Hanks is absolutely fine, the two play off each other well. And Jenny Wade is just as lovely as usual. I have no real complaints about the show, it is what it is.

One thing I love is the detail Nix puts into his guest bad guys. They feel like fully 3D characters, from the truckers and their love of America to the pimp with his need for tattoo removal. Just lots of little things that make them feel oddly real.
The disappointing thing is that they clearly played this week's episode out of order. The probation/ankle tracking thing across episodes would have paid off a lot better if they'd shown them in the appropriate order.
Yeah I noticed on wiki they'd moved the sixth produced episode up to 1x02 and another later one to 1x03. Sucks when they do that.
That was alot of fun. This is turning into a gem of a show for me.
Really liking this show. I know this is an out of order episode. But it was still pretty great.

Shame we likely won't get a second season.

Here is the full version of "Slink", the theme song for The Good Guys by Locksley.

So far, having only watched 3 episodes, I like the show....mainly on the strength of the way all the damn fun Whitford is having just oozes through my tv screen (fortunately, it cleans up easily).

I think the flaw is the show is trying too hard to be "quirky"; I'd feel better about it if they were doing the quirk less with directorial/editorial flourishes and more with letting the Whitford character's idiosyncracies dictate reality to the rest of the cast...or I guess to put it more simply, let the "quirk" come from the writing and acting.

I think this is my favorite show on TV this summer. Just light and fun and generally entertaining.
The dog-poisoning/meth labs episode was pretty fucking funny.

It would be 4th on my list just behind Eureka, Warehouse 13 and Psych. But damned if it hasn't turned into a pretty great little show.

Plus it would be too bad if this was a USA reject because this show was made to be paired with Psych.

Pretty good finale. I am a bit surprised this is getting another run in the fall, although I suspect it's just to burn off already produced episodes.
Damn, was the finale last night? Last one I saw was the witness protection guy from Boston ep. Whitford was hilarious in that one.

No it was a few weeks ago. I just got around to watching it today. And the one you saw was the finale. The one with the Tazering.
Anyone else still watching? I never took it off season pass on my DVR so recently I've been catching up. And while I still like the show, it lost steam big time.

They did away with pretty much all internal conflict, especially once they got Liz and Jack together. Now all the carachters are all one big happy family. It's like they went through a whole 5-7 year run in one season. Which is fitting since there is now way it's coming back.

Gary Cole as Frank was/is pretty great though.
I think it got better when they became more of a "family." The constant opposite partners that hated each other (though it was more Jack not liking Dan) shtick got tiring real quick.

It flows much better now, and allow the two to be better cops. Too bad it probably won't get a second season.
The "family" stuff seemed forced though. But I understand why. They needed to bring everything full circle since the show probably won't be a survivor.
Well, this week's episode is being advertised as the "Finale" so I assume the show is riding off into the sunset.

As far as the "family" aspect, the relationship between Dan and the Lieutenant was the only thing that felt forced. Within the span of like 3 episodes she went from hating his antics to loving his crazy ways. It started to become silly.

That episode was gold - I forget the exact quote but when Jack busted Frank on the whole "if you're so done with it, why do you still have that bitchin' 'stache?" was great.
