Buying a new Computer. Premaid vs. DIY

My computer has been around since the first Bush Term and is starting to go. Are there good PreMADE computers that can handle 1080p streaming video (Like Trailers) for under $750? Or should I go DIY and build it from scratch.

1. I am looking for a media computer more than a gaming one. I would like something that could handle Spore or The Sims.

2. Is there much noticable difference between 2.9 GHZ vs. 3.2?

3. Can I play old games on Windows 7 like Master of Orion?

barebone system, for the guy who wants to DIY but isn't as tech savy.

If you KNOW what you're doing (as in, how to set options in bios (it's in the manual, defaults are all good) and put in hardware...) for your needs I'd recommend:

AMD Phenom II X2 555 Black Edition
GIGABYTE GA-MA785GM-US2H
Combo Price: $156.99 (newegg)
4 GB DDR2 800 (2 sticks, check with gigabyte to see what namebrand is supported w/ motherboard)
(roughly $110)
go with the onboard video and sound.. pick yourself up a cheap case w/ free shipping (under $40) and a power supply (COOLER MASTER Elite 460 RS-460-PSAR-J3 460W ATX12V V2.31 Power Supply $29.99 after mail in rebate at Newegg with free shipping) ... not to mention the hard drive and you've got yourself a decent multimedia PC (not gaming) for about $500. You could hunt around and find cheaper prices than Newegg, but I tend to buy all my stuff in one spot that way if there is a problem it's easy to return. Like I said you need to know a little about what you're doing (like, thermal paste) and if you lack this knowledge or a friend who has it... go prebuilt.

ETA

You know, I just went to Dell's website and you can get an Inspiron Zino HD w/ 20 inch widescreen monitor and decent option, 1 year limited warranty for like $600. I'd go that route if you're looking to just have a media machine.. because if you don't have a monitor you're looking at more $$$ going DIY.

Scott, Premaid, as in before the computer in question ever became a...Maid.

Rourkefan, That is what...Premaid means?

Pre-made. Shit, I need a spellchecker. Even Duke Fleed can gang up on me

There used to be more options in the preMADE market when I bought my current Compaq Presario back in 2003.
