Knife In The Water

I think it Citizen Kane didn't exist, it'd probably be the strongest first film by a director ever forged. Polanski just came right out of the gate like he'd been doing this for a decade. The pacing and the structure of this little pissing contest, and how he manages to have an hour and 20 minutes of build up, and finish it off within 10 minutes without feeling sloppy or rushed is a thing of beauty.

I can't access IMDb at work, but did the wife ever star in anything else? Preferably with a less elaborate wardrobe?

This has been sitting in my queue for years now. Needs to be seen by me!

Needs to be seen by everyone who hasn't seen it.

I agree with Justin. This may not be THE strongest debut film, but it's definitely up there with the best of them. The pacing is impeccable and the reason why it's often cited as a thriller, which it really isn't.

But I can appreciate and accept that interpretation of it.

Am I the only one, though, that sees it as a comedy of manners?

I'd agree with that if A: the movie was funnier, and B: class was made a bigger issue by The Hitchhiker and Andrezj than the Hitchhiker's manliness in general.
