I've a feeling this is going to piss on a nws story for today. Butane get mad (which truth be told isn't that intimidating, unless it's an automotive situation...)

Yeah, this actually looks like a lot of fun. Really like the Sparklehorse track's vibe. Hopefully, the trailer is indicative of the final picture's feel (as the Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake's trailer was). If it is, then I think we may be pleasantly surprised.

Of course, I haven't read the screenplay, so it could go tits up. But I quite like what I see here - even if there are 8 of them.
Damn, those zombies are fast. Which I suppose is one way to differentiate it from the Romero movie, while adding more immediate and obvious danger.

I like the mood switch in the trailer - it plays nicely into the vibe of the original, the idea that these people are indulging in futile consumer fantasy (ankle stockings...nice) while the world turns to shit.

Looks to be more action-based than the original, but I don't have a problem with that. Just consider it another zombie movie set in a mall, and it should entertain - providing it's a hard R. And if TCM is a success, I see no reason why it wouldn't be.

So, yeah, me like.
Is there anyway to see the trailer that's not on the Apple site? Everytime I go there it just freezes up my computer.

And I NEED to see this!
Not unless there is an official website for it, but chances are that it is in quicktime as well.
Thanks, Strax, I'll remember that...

No pissing, that was posted at 5:20 in the morn...that's long before I'm up usually, though I have to say it would've been nice to get the scoop first...

It's not a bad trailer, though I really don't like the idea of fast-moving zombies, it just looks wrong to me. I mean, they're dead, why the hell would they be able to sprint suddenly?
AAAAARRRRGGGH!!!

I can't get this to work!!!
I've frozen up my computer 3 times already!

Time to see if any of the IT guys are in yet...
I kid because I care, you incorrigible old punk-fiend.

I'm hypothesising that whatever causes reanimation could realistically quell any entropy and invigorate muscles, tissue etc... If, say, cells are energised back to "life", why not hyper-energised: I mean, aside from the "leaping-onto-the-guy-in-the-garage" shot, it doesn't reveal whether they have any precision in their speed.

Fast but in a spastic, ramshackle style ? I'd buy that more than I'd buy a local police chief named Tom Savini...

I've seen plenty of trailers (teasers if you might say) and none has given me the creeps (in a good way) before. I mean c'mon, I need to see fast moving zombies. I tend to believe it is impossible to bump into a slow moving zombie and get killed becuz it, that's not realistic. Damn I got scared just by that clip...oh and I like the idea of more peeps in the mall. They can't be greedy now, they need to give to the needie.

I am sure i read somewhere once, that after a couple days the rigormortis actually goes, so perhaps that will explain running zombies.... a girl i know works as a forensic morgue thingy, ill ask her when i see her lol

oh yeah, apparantly the official site isnt up yet.

I do think we should take this movie as a brand new film, which happens to be borrowing from an old classic. sort of like Chuck's the Omega Man, was very loosely based on I, Legend, but was not all that similar
post #14 of 89
The dudeabides...

what OS, IE ver. and QT are you using?
I like the trailer.

The best part? The cameo from...

Tom Savini: Los Angeles County Sheriff!
I have no idea about those things, Etrigan, I am just becoming computer savy. Thanks for trying to help.

BUT

I just saw it. I watched it with one of my computer guys at his computer!

I loke what i see. Zombies, moving fast, like 28 days later. I think that is cool, fast zombies can be such a huge threat... And I say that as a zombie purist who worships at the Alter of Romero. I love my slow zombies, but if done right, these fast zombies could be very good and dangerous, just like ROTLD.

Tom Savini glimpsed as a sheriff, very cool to us fan boys, but i hope they keep him in check for this movie...let's not let him get carried away with his cameo.

The cast looks good, Ving Rhames looks like a bad ass mo fo in some shots, and they are really using a lot of wide angle shots to show the scope of the mall and the emptiness.

Very promising. But hopefully, that jumping zombie is an isolated deal.

See, I keep telling everyone, this movie is going to be awesome.

At least now everyone can get somewhat of an idea of what we are going to see.

I, for one, like it.

for some vidcaps and shots of the zombies from the Dawn of the Dead teaser.

They look pretty good, considering the source material used for the pictures.

They try to differentiate it from Romero's zombies? View it as just another zombie movie set in a mall?

We're talking about a movie called "DAWN OF THE DEAD". If they want to differentiate it from Romero or want we to view it as another zombie movie set in a mall would they call it "DAWN OF THE DEAD"? They want us to compare it to the original otherwise they would have called it something different?

As for the trailer, I think it sucked.

It is premature to base a real opinion about a movie based on a teaser, but everyone is entitled to their opinion, so I won't nag anyone about their views...but it's still cool to have a big budget zombie movie, isn't it?

For the shot of the girl with the dog in the mall, i thought they took out the scenes of the dogs? Anyknow have any info on that?
It sucked because this looks like an action movie. A cross between Dawn and Nightmare City meets the A Team. I agree that you should not judge a movie by a 60 sec. clip but that is what the studio is using to get us to go see it and based on that I'll stick with the original.

I hate to see what the remake of Day will be like.
Just going by those two screen caps, it looks marginally better than I was expecting. The zombies all kind of look like they're wearing halloween masks.
Still, I like the feel of the first shot.

Well, they may have taken out the "dog scene" but one of the supporting characters still may have a dog.
I can't see why you didn't like the teaser. I think it succeeds at what it's trying to do, to get us excited about the movie coming out. And I don't think that they're trying to make us compare this from the original...I think it was RRotten's view of the remake TCM that the movie is taken in a whole different angle..maybe they did it with DOTD...I dunno, that's my opinion. I always wanted to see a "retell" of Dawn only becuz I was born in the 80's and with my crucial points in life in the 90's, I am spoiled for Special Effects and CGI. So now it's happening and I'm excited.
Looked good to me. At first glance it appears that they are going to use the smart remake strategy of being an ode to the clssic film WHILE ALSO adding/changing parts of the film as well.

Why make a shot for shot remake? Why make a movie that is completely unrelated to Dawn and call it Dawn? Success may just fall squarely in between those two ways of thinking.

If the remake pays respect to the original AND takes me in a new direction, I'll be one happy cannibal farmer.

***edited for spelling***

I agree...oh yea I remember an example now.. No one wants a shot to shot remake of a classic, it's boring. Look at 1998 Psycho...there was no point in remaking that because it was the same damn movie..HA
post #29 of 89
I think it looks rather nice.

Sprinting zombies are an inevitability these days, but who knows, maybe some good will come out of 28 Days Later... Anyway, I can live with sprinting zombies as long as they're vicious enough.

As for the trailer itself, I especially liked the literal "dawn" effect when the movie title logo thingy appears at the end.

And I wonder if they're going to use the "no more room in hell" line?

Sorry, out of luck. These are sprinting pacifist zombies.

Well, one of the zombies in the original Dawn was a Hindu Krishna veggie type, but he still looked like he could bite a chunk out of you...

I heard that Ken Foree has a cameo as an evangelist, or street preacher, depending on the report this week, and it is he who utters the famous line during one of his tirades.

Take it as an unconfirmed rumor.

If you don't want a movie compared to the original, you don't give it the same title.

Comparing a remake to the original is inevitable. But it's a simple fact that remakes do happen.

You might be suprised, you might like it when you see it, you might hate it. But if you let the status of the original movie, or "legend" or whatever sour you on the remake, you will hate it without a doubt.

Oh man, that would be so cool if true.
I liked the teaser quite a bit but am I the only one who thinks that this looks like a sequel to 28 DAYS LATER? And it's not just the running undead who seem to behave exactly like the "Infected" in Boyle's film. It's also the look of the film, the fact that the trailer mixes quiet moments with pulse pounding action. Not that that is necessarily a bad thing. I loved 28 DAYS LATER. Still, it is kind of ironic that a film that was very much a hommage to Romero's films ends up looking like the trailer to a remake of one of those Romero films ...
This is probably the first remake that has made me a little uncomfortable with the fact that after it comes out a new generation of film fans are going to think the original is cheese after watching this. It's a little frustrating. I saw the original for the first time a few months ago and I love it. There is just something fucking amazing about that movie.

Both Dawn and Day had their share of quiet moments contrasted with out and out zombie mayhem.

Boyle didn't invent this shit.

I agree. It is still a film about a groud of people holed up in a mall while the dead walk. That alone justifies (or even requires) that they use the DAWN OF THE DEAD title. I'm sure that if they had called it something else everyone here would be fretting about how they're ripping off the concept of DAWN without aknowledging it.

I hope there will be a lot of differences because it is true, I don't want to watch a damn shot-for-shot remake that only adds a more polished look but no surprises. The reason why the TCM remake fares so well even with die-hard fans of the original is because they took the basics of the original and changed quite a bit. That's far from a guarantee for success but it's things like that that make me interested in a remake.

What they took out were the scnens with ZOMBIE DOGS. That doesn't mean there won't be any normal, alive dogs in the film. I can't even begin to say how glad I am that they got rid of the zombie dog stuff. It would have made the film too much like a RESIDENT EVIL flick. Leave the zombie dogs to Milla and her Matrix Kung Fu ...

I know. That's why I wrote that 28 DAYS LATER was a hommage to Romero's films. What made me think "28 DAYS LATER - THE NEXT GENERATION" was the combination of visuals, Olympic zombies and overall mood.

But again, I liked what I saw and I'm sure those things were in the script before 28 DAYS LATER came out. At least I fucking hope so ...
That trailer looked one hundred times better than I ever expected. Consider my ass officially excited.
What reminds me more of Boyle is the trendy tune playing over the trailer.

The music sounds alright, but I hope the movie doesn't end up being 50% music video like 28 Days.
The teaser looks decent enough. Still, my curiosity is the only thing drawing me into the theater for this one. I would've been excited is Roger Avary had actually gotten to do his version.

This trailer spoils what would've been a nasty shocker. I love the news footage. Not only do these zombies move fast, but they can jump like a motherfletcher.

nice underwear.

Just witnessed the trailer myself.

I'll be there opening night (natch) but I'm on the fence about what I've seen. It's flashy. Not keen on the quick-moving zombies either but whatever.

I'll be there opening night.
People who like sprinting zombies aways compare "a sprinting zombie" to "a shambling zombie" and say they find it unrealistic that you couldn't get away from a shambling zombie. What they forget is that, while it's easy to get away from a shambling zombie, it's a lot harder to get away from a thousand shambling zombies, all in the same place.

Shambling zombies make up for lack of speed through sheer numbers, and that's part of what goes on in the original Dawn--remember, at the end of NotLD people think they've got things pretty well under control, since they know how to kill the zombies now. As Dawn opens they're realizing that despite the fact that these zombies are easy to kill, there are so damn MANY of them, you're so OUTNUMBERED, that the end is extremely nigh. wink

Let me say though, the sprinting zombies in RotLD were very effective imo, so I'm dissing nothing until I see it and can make a qualified judgement.

I can't get the trailer at work, though.
I just got back from TCM and was suprised to see this trailer attatched. Did anyone else know that is was going to be tacked on?
I don't really know what to think about this yet. Dawn isn't only my favorite horror ever, it's my favorite film ever.
I like that idea of having a few more people in the mall, and that the zombie's seem like they're fast.
I am a little scared though that they'll just destroy something great.
