Next screwed up state? Oklahoma, come on down!

"Oklahoma just passed the country's strictest law on pre-abortion ultrasounds, along with another law that basically allows doctors to lie to pregnant women."

Quote:
The first, a similar form of which was struck down by Oklahoma courts last year, requires "a doctor or technician to set up the monitor where the woman can see it and describe the heart, limbs and organs of the fetus. No exceptions are made for rape and incest victims."

The second law, however, is even more disturbing. Basically, it protects doctors from being sued if they decide not to tell patients that their fetus has birth defects. Writes McKinley, "The intent of the bill is to prevent parents from later suing doctors who withhold information to try to influence them against having an abortion."

Just take a minute to digest that. In Oklahoma, it's now legal to keep health information from patients in order to make their reproductive decisions for them.
So remember, the government needs to stay out of our health care -- unless you're pregnant and considering an abortion.

I just can't believe they made it legal for a doctor to lie to their patients.

I'm taking bets for...Snaieke coming in and defending this shit.

...

Well, you know.

PM me your guesses. Winner gets bragging rights.

Seems like there should be legal precedent to prevent this from happening.
I'm anti-abortion and even I find that to be completely and totally screwed up. Seriously.
There is no way this stands. Absolutely no way.

That's what I was going to say. Seems this'll get overturned. God, I hope so.

Where's Snakey? Shouldn't he be coming up with an idiotic defense for this right about now?

My wife said the same thing.

We just wish your mom was.

I kid, I kid, stop glaring at me like that.

...and there's a third state struck from my travel plans - and all in the one week too.

If things keep going at this rate it's gonna end up being a short trip.

As a former resident of the crap state of Oklahoma, why would you want to go there anyway?

I drove through part of it once. It's revolting. Possible the most revolting and characterless state in the union.

North Dakota?

These Oklahomans are crazy.

I think Dakota is the Sioux word for 'leftover space'.
Now guys, there has to be a perfectly reasonable explanation for this stance....

...oh, who am I kidding? This is beyond idiotcy. Who passed this law, Abdullah the Butcher?

At least North Dakota has enough character to be a barren wasteland in the winter. And Iowa has some lakes or something. The only interesting thing about OK is that it looks like a frying pan.

It is legal for doctors to lie to their patients? Wrong can't even begin to describe how fucked up this is. Hide birth defects from parents? This should be fucking unacceptable. You're supposed to be an advanced, civilized nation. Fuck state's rights. The government should step in, negate this law and make sure anyone involved in this travesty never holds public office again, starting from today. They're obviously not interested in participating in a Western civil democracy, anyway. They're like the Taliban in all but name.

The best thing about Iowa is a fictional town in a musical that's half a century old.

Yup: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d.html/r...6227029&sr=8-2

The divide in America right now really does *seem* worse than it's ever been during my adult lifetime (basically, since Clinton's first term, which is a close runner-up). I don't know how much of that perception is based in reality and how much comes from media and the internet.

Laws like this have me leaning firmly toward "reality" though. Fucking hell.

And now my state is possibly following the same path.

Quote:
On Wednesday, senators voted 22-17 to create a new government mandate that women seeking abortions must pay for ultrasounds and, in most cases, view live images of the fetus.
How about we just have doctors pull out an animatronic dying fetus while we're at it?
No, clearly the right thing to do is to take whatever is produced from the abortion and forcefully feed it to the mother while beating her up and calling a murdering whore. You know, to make her realize the gravity of the situation. Fucking psychopaths.

It's a shame Stan Winston didn't live long enough to create this masterpiece.

Seriously, who comes up with this crap, and how does it get past any sensible legislative process?
I love that me and the wife just came back from a ultrasound and blood test to determine if the foetus had Down syndrom or birth defect (and thus the possibility of abortion if that's the case, as it's early enough for it). Our insurance paid for it, and soon the government will pay for it.

Because it's the right thing to do.
I think you guys are missing the big picture here. Of course it'll get overturned. That's the whole point with these laws: they're meant to get in front of a judge so the conservatives can get a another bite at Roe. Yeah, it's completely disgusting and draconian. But that's the point.

On another topic, I am so fucking sick of abortion as an issue. Part of me wishes it was illegal so the fucking mouth-breathers would stop injecting it into every single policy debate we have in this country.
