Love Exposure: Japanese film of the decade?

So this 4-hour epic about religion, upskirt shots, and teenage love topped Midnight Eye's reader's poll for best Japanese film of the decade by a good margin, beating out well-known contenders like Audition, Battle Royale, Ichi The Killer, and all the rest. Director is Suicide Club's Sion Sono.

Anyone catch this?

I'm intimidated by the 4 hour runtime, but it's on my radar now. Thanks.

Probably my favourite Japanese film since Survive Style. Lots of fun, had the pleasure of seeing it in a cinema and it was mind blowing. Amazing use of Bolero as well.

Looks great, but there's no way it needs to be that long.

I might need some Adderall...

How do you know it doesn't need to be that long until you've seen it?

It was an exaggerated, opinionated remark I would love nothing more than to be proven wrong with this, and I intend to watch the film.

So... does it need to be that long?

It does. In the same way that Satantango needs to be 9 hours, the length is part of the texture of the film.

Loved Survive Style. Might need to check Love Exposure out. There's a 2 Disc DVD release in the UK. Anyone know if that version is worth importing?

Third Window sent me a stack of screeners to review, and I think this is one of them. I guess I should make it a high priority watch after I finish up my finals.
