I love Barker and really wanted to like this film, but it just didn't work for me. To me it felt like a script where the writer had a lot of interesting ideas but couldn't quite get them down on the page in a way that fully illustrated them. I never read the Barker story, but from my understanding they're fairly different.

I thought this was an interesting, if flawed, film. It's almost relentlessly talky for awhile, but once the nastiness starts, it becomes pretty effective. I liked how they made a simple piece of rotten meat more disgusting than a half-dozen ax murders. Nice job, Dread.

This might make an interesting double feature with Martyrs.
