Buffalo '66 (1998)

Didn't see a thread when I searched, so apologies if one exists.

I watched this a few nights ago and loved it. I was completely impressed with Gallo's acting. Say what you will about him as a person, but I love so much of what he did with this movie. Whether it was acting, directing, or writing. It was funny as hell at times and the directing was fantastic.

As for the rest of the cast, Ricci, Corrigan, Gazzara, and Huston were all great. It was really an awesome year for Gazzara in '98 (this, Happiness, Lebowski).

Plus, the "Moonchild" tap-dance scene and "Heart of the Sunrise" scene were fucking incredibly. Especially the latter. It left me completely jaw-dropped.

But, for some reason, I have a feeling that the inhabitants of CHUD hate this movie...

One of my favorites of the 90s. It dares you to hate it, and it's an easy dare to take. But there's just too much to love, and it's one of the funniest films I've ever seen, in its way.

Big Fan would make a great double feature with it - it's practically a sister film of Buffalo '66, down to the Kevin Corrigan sidekick.

"Spanning time."

I also am very fond of this movie. Gazzara's dinner table performance is spectacular.

Gallo, on a personal level, however, is another issue, entirely.

Love, love, love this film.

Storytelling is thrown out the window. But instead is a random array of visions Gallo wanted to put on film. It's rather beautiful to look at. Gallo knows how to use a camera, Coppola is a "sweat fact fuck piece of shit" compared to Gallo.

But the movie is goofy and hilarious and awesome

Oh and does anyone else find the donut shop scene at the end to be incredibly reminiscent of the one in Boogie Nights (sans the shoot-out)? Not saying anyone ripped anyone off, just funny how similar they are.

Yeah I really like this film. Ricci was so beautiful in this its hard to believe it was her in retrospect. The soundtrack is pretty groovy as well.

Gallo had a lot of promise he burned after this but it doesn't change the film we have here.

Also love the Mickey Rourke and Jan Michael Vincent cameos.

Only thing thats kind of a deal breaker for people I show this to is the whole kidnapping plot. It is creepy even though the character isn't a creep just an insecure down on his luck guy.
