I can think of a few things lamer.
I just look at Dr Vivisector's posts, and think to myself "what, are you twelve?"
Thanks to ALL of you for working so hard to provide us with the best film site on the web. I appreciate this FAR more than my wallet can exemplify.
Personally, I love threads like this. It's easier to identify those whose opinion means less than a snakes asshole to me from then on.
Still the only MB I really frequent on a daily basis. Thanks, fellas.

The problem here is that for Nick, and I assume to a slightly lesser extent Devin, this is not internet drama. This is their life. We come here after working and living our lives, and hang out posting pictures of Avatar furry porn and leave. Like any collection of individuals on the internet, we all start sniping and shit until it boils over and this kind of stuff happens.

But to Nick and Devin, this is what their daily lives are. Right here, this site, this board. So this drama is extremely personal and important to them. And they will react as if it is. I don't see how anybody could expect less.

I had a short-lived moderating career over at Batman-on-Film, and when the site owner there instituted some rules I didn't agree with, I calmly and privately rescinded my mod status and left the board. I don't expect maturity or rationality on the internet, but I at least expect some tiny spark of empathy - if you can imagine what it feels like to have something you've effectively devoted much of your life to casually disparaged and insulted by the very target of your work, then you should understand what Nick and Devin are saying here.
I found this place about 3 years ago and lurked like crazy, and it's the only message board I've ever felt the urge to sign up for. I appreciate everything you guys on the site do.
Internet drama is what drove me away from message boards for years, but I love this goddamn place too much to let it bother me this time. There are a lot of funny, intelligent guys and gals (and potentially a few inbetweens, I have my suspicions) on this message board who are willing to engage you on topics both interesting and silly alike.

I don't think some people appreciate just how rare the quality of this board is on the internet, if you want to see what most internet message boards look like then go over to Oh No They Didn't or pick any Imdb page at random, and then (when you're done trying to bash out your eyes with a halfbrick) thank your lucky fucking stars Nick, Devin, Eileen and co let us come here.

So thanks to the whole CHUD team, I love this place and I won't let a few pissy little ingrates spoil it for me.
Thanks for the site and the boards and all the great content. This is the only site where I'll read every single article because the writing is so good. And the boards are definitely a cut above most. I used to be a regular at Super Hero Hype (I'm dumb) and several other smaller boards and the majority of them are real horror shows.
This is the best site on the internet, and it's still the only messageboard I post on. It's also the only place that I feel comfortable posting at. Especially enough to have asked for the privilege to write a blog on the site.

A big thank you right back to Nick, Devin, Eileen, JG Butler, and everyone else who makes this site the best place on the internet.
I've been a regular reader of this site since '02. I linked to it from some other site and never looked back. Some of the most entertaining writing and best-written film reviews you can find anywhere on the web. And the entertaining writing stretches to the boards, as most of the posters are articulate, intelligent people with real wit.

And very clearly defined personalities.

Although my join date is 2005, my account wasn't really activated until 2008. In these two years, I have become a regular poster on an internet forum. Something that I was never compelled to do before. And this site that didn't know me from Adam also allowed me to post my blogs officially in its pages.

And I'm very proud to be a part of this community. I also respect and enjoy pretty much everyone. Yes, even Devin.

Like I said in previous posts, I understand why certain posters were banned. I do think it was an excessive reaction. And I happened to enjoy their sense of humor and will miss their contributions. It annoyed me and I sympathized with them. However, it's much like when you keep bopping that Doberman on the tip of his nose. He'll growl and growl. But, eventually, he'll rip your arm off. And so it was for them.

Kudos to Devin for having the patience to put up with so many childish and derisive comments at his expense. People like to get on his case about snobbishness and intolerance but they seem to forget how much shit he actually takes. And stuff like The Phil Appreciation Thread shows he does care.
I just wanted to chime in and say thanks to Nick for keeping this site going and thanks to Devin, Eileen, Alex, and all the others who make this site what it is. This is one of the few places on the internet I can find actual adult discussion (about movies and other things), and I love the site for that. Thanks for being here.
I love this place. It's a godsend on bad days at work when there's nothing to do and gives me hours of free entertainment. On top of that the content of the boards is great I've watched so many movies, TV shows and listened to great bands and albums that I never would have and it all came from people here whether they came from columns or just board regulars.

I understand how frustrating it must be sometimes for Nick and Devin to run this place and I appreciate it immensely. This place is the best boards on the internet and I hope that never changes.
Everyone else has said it better than I could, so I'll just chime in with a jolly, "Keep up the good work, and I look forward to the future improvements." This place is a shiny beacon in the Internet wilderness.
I was never really compelled to post on an internet forum either, much like Erix, and now, I've got this page bookmarked on my iPhone, and eagerly await the CHUD app, so I can continue to post in this wonderful place, even when I'm not near a computer. As well as read the fabulous articles that are posted on the main page.

I salute CHUD and all who sail in her. Don't like the officers? Choose another vessel. Going to make life more difficult for the officers? Don't cry when you find yourself going over the side.

Full steam ahead.

I wouldn't want to stand alongside any other seamen than the ones I found here.

And I for one couldn't think of another group of people I'd rather take a steam with.
I'm relatively new here. But I like it here.

Nothing much to add. I didn't even know this drama was going on, I've been in other threads talking flicks.
These are the only boards I am a member of, I enjoy them very much, thank you all for the work and time and money you put in to making these the most tolerant, open and intelligent threads on the net. I'll miss you all when I get banned.

Just be glad that I lost weight or else you'd be using a hell of a lot more memory

also yeah CHUDAHU AKBAR

Thanks to Nick, Devin, Eileen, Jeremy and all the others who make this the center of my internet universe. It is really nice to have a place you consider home on such an unfriendly and dumb place as the world wide webs.

Awww.

I love CHUD. It's the first website I check in the morning, and the last one at night. I definitely count on it for in depth movie analysis and fun insider stuff.

How else would I have avoided putting Human Centipede in a double feature with Antz for Kid Vivisector's next birthday party?

Every movie I have purchaced on line went through CHUD, and I even click on the annoying ads because it puts money in Nick's pocket to keep the lights on here.

I even maxed out my purchase for MEG over at HSX.

Years ago.

Still, if I've truly offended anyone here, I offer my most profound apologies.

CHUD has been my favorite site since it started, so I'm biased, but fuck all the people who make this commuity as a whole look bad. And fuck the community people holes to look bad while you're at it. I won't say there is nothing that's ever bothered me here, but I've always tried to stay cool about it, especially considering this place is FREE. Everybody needs to try and treat each other with respect, and some people seem to be incapable of doing that. Still, you can't be too thin-skinned here, and you'd better have a sense of humor or you will explode into many piles.

Thank you for allowing me to add value to this discussion by reiterating a lot of what's already been said. I'm glad that you love me, and I'm sick of hearing about it.

This is actually worth repeating a few times, and is one of the many reasons this is the only board I now visit on the net.

I appreciate that this is privately owned and so isn't 'my home' per se, but god damn if I don't feel comfortable on this little corner of the living room with my old blanket and cushion I like to think of as my own. I frikkin love this place, I can't imagine leaving it. Thanks chud.

CHUD is my master's degree in film. Professors better than Devin, Andre, and the much-missed Beaks are near-impossible to find.

Quite seriously, since I've been coming here it's felt like a pseudo-continuation of the film theory degree I finished in 1997, albeit one with a lot more shits and giggles.

It just gets so tiresome when a chewer decides he's some virtual Che Gueverra sticking it to 'da man' when in actual fact they're just melting down and deciding to be assholes to the people who run and contribute the most here while getting completely wrapped up in their own sense of entitlement.
Every time I see one of these types of threads I say the same thing. I've never had a single complaint about this site or it's forums. As far as free message boards go, I've always found CHUD's rules, users, moderators to be as good as it gets. Devin generally rubs me the wrong way but I think his articles are great and he makes these forums infinitely more interesting than if he was absent from them. I've never understood the complaints from either side of things. Except for a person here and there this generally seems like a pretty decent group we have here.

Much appreciated, folks.
Yeah, definitely loving it here. I'm surprised that I've become accepted so quickly since y'all seemed so intimidating when I lurked. Still, thank you, and I hope to continue being a part of this awesome, tolerant (seriously, no other sites let me bitch quite so profanely at times) site/forum.
Yeah CHUD is the only Internet Message Board I contribute to (or more often, "contribute" to, to be honest).

I'd say it's the "last best hope" for intelligent discourse on film (and other topics YES Devin!) on the Web. I used to lurk on FilmThreat, Ain't It Cool etc. But the message boards there are terrifying in their meanness and stupidity. CHUD has some really knowledgeable people mixed with some content free yet entertaining posters.

It's turned me on to movies (Land of the Lost, The Fountain) an entire genres of film (Westerns, thanks Beaks) that I would never have experienced otherwise.

Just for the record...I can keep using "fuck" right?
9 years and ...holy shit i broke a thousand posts....go figure

anyway...I have more memories of this place then I do this city I live in, so please never go away CHUD, for I might actually have to Work at work, and I don't know if i could live with that

Pretty much this. I've got seven years on this board, so pretty much my entire adult life I've been posting on CHUD. I've made several good friends and contacts in real life because of this place, and despite it having some fungus-like barnacles that have latched on and won't come off (*ahem* Princess Lizard Eye), this is still the number one place to actually discuss and appreciate film on the internet I've found. Sure, there's genre-specific kind of places, but show me another place on the internet where you can have this many like-minded people discussing film AND taking the piss out of one another without it consistently devolving into flame wars. I'll show you a three testicled platypus.

I don't know how many people here actually appreciate what a place like this is--where you can have a three page discussion on All That Jazz, or actually discuss and debate the merit of Gone With The Wind with people who offer up coherent and reasoned arguments, not just two polarized sides screaming at each other while missing every other word and punctuation mark. I've had my opinions changed, formed, destroyed, and re-formed, and then enlightened all over again more times than I can count here. I've learned more about actual filmmaking and film theory here than I did at college (which sucks, since no one looks at my CHUD membership when considering me for a job).

The flip side of that is the Boston bar-room brawl type humor that permeates the whole place. Nothing's taboo, everything's up for grabs. And while yeah, a lot of the humor remains in junior high, there's a level of quips and ribbing that most comedy clubs don't achieve in their entire lifetimes. The jokes around here play for keeps, you have to fire back or get mocked endlessly. I feel like I take it for granted, sometimes, as does most of the board. There's hiccups along the way, but like every fight, there's always a moment when someone needs to be the bigger dick and walk away.

Basically, all in all, this site is pretty awesome. It's a goddamn miracle on the internet, really, when you look at every other movie message board out there. No one else has the kind of community that's been built here.

So to quote the old CHUD disclaimer: "CHUD is a free service. Don't screw it."

I don't know about you guys but - and I say this as a rampantly heterosexual man - I want to kiss Greg Clark on the mouth right now.

Are people that afraid of confrontation?

When someone does something wrong do you just sit there and let it happen; only later to bitch about it to your friends?
Not afraid of confrontation in the least. I'm pretty confrontational. It's just that this is a confrontation that's probably gonna go nowhere, but at least people can see that Greg David is a freeloader and a horrible, horrible, human being.
WAIT, Greg Proops. Sorry guys I can't read
post #98 of 124
Instead of announcing that I have to take a shit, I simply remark that I have a meeting with Greg Proops.
But it should at least be said. At least he (any anyone else who pulls that shit, which is incredibly scummy) knows now that there are people who will remember.

And now it's done, internet still exists, the thread still exists and people can make their judgments.

ETA: Please leave Greg Proops out of this. The man has to live with his performance in Episode I. Hasn't he suffered enough?
What?! I had no idea Proops was in Ep 1. Ah, just a voice actor, that's why.
