Split Second

Just tried this demo and it's really fun. Normally I don't care for driving games because I suck at them, but I enjoyed this a lot. The controls are very arcade-y and forgiving, and you can set off explosive traps on your opponents. Not sure it's 'brand-new-sixty-bucks' fun, but it was definitely 'used-30-or-less' fun.

Ha! I bought this for about 50 bucks after some Amazon discounts along with lightning-fast Amazon Prime (whooooo!). It IS fun. And not being into driving simulations AT ALL, arcade racers are very much my speed. Especially ones with dumbass explosions and destruction.

That said, the destruction isn't as satisfying as I'd hoped. Something about the way they're presented (camerawork, sound, use of speed-ramping) just doesn't match up with the carnage of something like Burnout.

Also, the cheap reality TV show music (which is intentional as the game is supposed to be like the seasons of a reality TV show) gets repetitive and boring. And you can't use custom soundtracks. Not on the PS3, anyway... Ugh.

Blur gets automatic points above this game simply for that.

Split Second defently loses points for the rubber-banding it uses.
