Whenever I saw the Bulletstorm Game Informer cover.

I immediately thought, OMG they're ripping off Doom.

Bought.
Chili Con Carnage was a blast.

This looks like a blast. I like shooting things with guns and kicking faces off.
Thanks for putting this on my radar. I have that Game Informer, but like all their covers, it made the game look so fucking derivative and uninteresting that I didn't pay any attention to it.
Glad to hear that CCC was good. I really liked TOTAL OVERDOSE aside from the shit driving mechanics.
This is indeed relevant to my interests.
Wow. It's like having kinky sex with UT while Jackass is on tv.

I'm gonna have to break down and start that Gamefly account soon.
It looks decent, but it's impossible to get a sense of the pacing (vitally important) and level layouts (quite important) from the snippy edits.

Painkiller had really bad pacing, with the small-but-many waves of enemies spawning, and usually only from one or two locations and the closed off arenas were a terrible idea. Compared to Doom on Nightmare/Ultraviolence, Painkiller is slow and boring and stilted.

The basic combat mechanics look good, but hopefully Bulletstorm will have a lot more pep than PCF's previous games.

This "Believe" trailer cracked me up- http://www.chud.com/29693/believe-in-bulletstorm/

Preordering.  Preordering this SO HARD.

I loved Painkiller, no way I couldn't give their next game a shot.  Hopefully there's a gun in there as awesome as "skurikens and lightning".

heheh Too good. I loved the one guy holding up a receipt like he was yelling at everyone for not paying.

God dammit, I wish I had my game systems back...

This comes out on my birthday. I think it is a sign from the gods.

Pretty much every single trailer to this game has cracked me up but that was just wonderful. Put such a big smile on my face.  I haven't been this excited for an FPS in fucking forever.

You know, watching all these trailers, I get the feeling that gamers today are a bunch of pussies.  I've read so many comments that "It tries too hard" "bunch of frat boy bullshit" "ooooh, it has cursing, how original" "why is it trying to be funny"  Shut the fuck up, whiners!  This is the Painkiller people.  It's all about killing shit in the coolest and best way possible and being loud about it.  Jesus fucking Christ, why didn't people bitch like this about Just Cause 2, a game whose fun factor is all about doing shit that is bananas. Is it because it also involved parachutes?  I guess the marketing didn't offend their sensibilities.  Pussies.

Bulletstorm looks fucking rad and I'm ready to rock some co-op the day it's out.

Fuck-ing THIS.  Mind you most of those "gamers" were probably in fucking diapers while we were tipping strippers in DUKE NUKEM 3D so don't judge them too hard.  They just haven't had the right education.

Now I'm thinking that this game is the Duke Nukem Forever that we've always wanted but never got.

And you know what?  I'm fine with that.  It's been too long since there's been an FPS purely about the wanton sophomoric childish glory of absolutely ruining the shit of every single computer-controlled being you meet.

I really hope that 'Bulletstorm' can keep a feeling like that going from start to finish.

That's pretty much what I've been thinking since the first time I saw the game's footage.  Mind you from what I've seen of Duke Nukem Forever (gearbox) that could actually be the Duke Nukem game we've been waiting for.  I'll just wait till I can actually get my hands on it till I can make a better judgment though.

Either way it's just great that it looks like we're getting FPS's that are actually trying to recapture that old school fun as opposed to another COD or Halo clone focused more on multiplayer than great shooting mechanics.

Now if they'd add 50 Cent as an extra dlc character to use in the game...game of the year contender out of the gate.

I'm just enjoying the vulgar new vocabulary this game is creating.  "Son of a dick", "dicktits", and, my personal new favorite phrase from footage shown at a work conference, "Butterdick Jones and his Heavenly Asshole Machine".

Demo 1/25 on 360 and PS3.

Demo is out today!

It's weird getting into a groove, since there's so much to take into consideration compared to most other shooters.

Once you get into a groove, though, you're a fucking berserker-packing man-and-a-half, kicking mutants into dust and then blowing up the dust, just to be sure.

I can't wait to try this out later. I've got the demo queued up to download as soon as I can get home and turn on my 360.

So Bulletstorm looks like great fun in its trailers, but not so much when your actually playing it, at least for the demo. I didn't really like it at all. I'm sure it might be a bit better when you get some of the crazier guns and actually know what a lot of the combo tricks are, but I didn't like the way the demo played. Maybe it's because I've been playing a ton of Bad Company 2 lately, but Bulletstorm felt weird when I was controlling it. The movement was a bit...spongy, I guess. It's hard to explain exactly, but the aiming just felt different to me, and not in a good way. The enemies in the demo were also pretty boring, and the level was pretty much just run here, shoot five guys, now go over here and shoot five more, rinse, and repeat.

So maybe the full game will be better (probably), but the demo has definitely soured me on the game. I'll be curious to see what the reviews say about it in a few weeks.

The "humor", dialogue, and character design is awful. My wife walked in and said "this game is for douchebags."

Loved the demo, indeed the game is a throwback to the good all days of "killing things in awesome ways"...discovering a new way to kill something brings joy to my sould.

Also, this is a game where you get rewarded for shooting mutants while being drunk of your ass.

I can see the humor, crudeness and characters getting annoying  if the game overexposes them, but thats what a skip button is for.

If you only played the demo once you did it wrong.

If you only played it twice you're still doing it wrong.

The real joy of this demo comes from replaying with an almost Geometry Wars-esqe zeal, getting the mechanics down and going from "Hey, what's going on here?" to "RIP AND TEAR YOUR GUTS" while trying to top the next best score on your list.  It's all about losing yourself to the "I can do BETTER" impulse.  And with only around 6 minutes a playthrough, it's really easy to go through the demo multiple times and find your groove.

As for the language, eh, it's in the background.  I'm too busy lighting faces on fire while kicking dudes off cliffs to pay it much heed.

Not sure if everyone knows about holding down the button for the leash. The charged up slam allows for so many new combos.

Really love that the demo includes a leaderboards because like Master Shake's figured out, this is all about the arcade combat, getting the high score. Speaking of, I have the high score on Xbox Live among my friends (ahem) like to see one of you folks try to top me. I didn't even get three stars yet!

Loved it, but the pacing on the demo had a couple of blank spots in terms of combat, compared to The Club...at least giving you time to charge up your favorite guns for whatever scripted sequence was queued up. Only two folk on my friends list have played the demo - wtf - this game is awesome so why isn't everyone playing it?

Playing Borderlands is going to feel kind of quaint now in light of some of the voice actors seemingly copy/pasted into Bulletstorm.

Haha, nice. You warm up to it yet?

If you've seen the headlines over at Kotaku/Joystiq this morning, skip watching their video links and play Duty Calls yourself on the pc. Only thing missing is a $15 dollar charge to unlock the next section of the map.

Didn't realize this was streeting the same day as Killzone 3.

Charts have been changed..new #2 in town cause how the hell do you get to 14000 in this demo?

Can't stop me, son! *flex flex*

And as much as I'd love to feel like King Awesome, there's people on the leaderboards with 24,000+.

Pro-tip: don't use the minigun in the elevator shaft.

EDIT:  And I just moved the goalpost again.  15.5 K and climbing.

At the risk of looking like I've double-posted, this new Rock Paper Shotgun article has just made the wait for this game feel even longer.

Quote:

Did I mention that most of this scripted sequence is playable, rather than a cutscene? It’s playable, rather than a cutscene. In Bulletstorm’s opening ten minutes it smoothly provides this sequence that would serve as most games’ finale, and it’s only then that the game starts to get mad. In the first four hours that I played you can look forward to everything from unlikely weapons, to the cramming of two people into a tiny one-man helicopter, to learning about the ludicrous multiplier your skillshots get if your character’s drunk.

But there’s more going on here than Captain Swearword’s Big Fuckin’ Adventure. Bulletstorm’s planet is the single most beautiful location a game’s taken me to since Bioshock dragged me down to Rapture, and the game’s corridor-shooter design is careful not to make it any less believable as the holiday resort you quickly discover that it used to be.

I've missed spectacle and levity in this GRIMDARKMILITARY era of shooters.  Gimme some Duke Nukem, gimme No One Lives Forever 3 (seriously, Monolith: GIVE ME NOLF3), and gimme Bulletstorm.

Admittedly, I'll be buying this because a) it looks super fun and b) that article made it sound super fun (and awesome), but damn...

Quote:
Captain Swearword’s Big Fuckin’ Adventure

is a game I would buy the everloving shit out of.

And that game is Bulletstorm!

God, the people I would kill to get a NOLF3.  Or get NOLF and NOLF2 up on gog or steam...

Famitsu has a new trailer up that shows off a couple new locations, the result of weapon upgrading (check out the Screamer icon at 1:20) and an RC T-Rex.

Also, it shows off what CensoredStorm looks like aka the German edition (poor bastards).  No blood, muted ragdolls and no gibs.  At least they aren't robots...

This game is fucking insane.

This really does feel like the spiritual successor to DukeNukem 3d. Creative deaths galore. I simpling can't get enough of kicking enemies in the nuts and having them fly into impaling goodies. Fun to fantastic level design, one level involves controlling your very own mecha-godzilla bot. Win Win Win.

YYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Ok, I know I'm gonna sound like some deetering old codger here, but is this game more than nutshots and curse words? I honestly couldn't give a shit about how creatively I dismember somebody. I mean, it sounds like fun on the surface, but like, maybe, thirty minutes worth of fun. I'd really like somebody to sell me on this more than the 14-year-old-on-Xbox stuff that I've been seeing.

No you are correct. This is the Dane Cook of videogames, brah.

"The Dane Cook of video games."

Somehow I'm guessing we won't be seeing that as a pull quote. Alex, you're a godsend.

At least it's not the Carlos Mencia of video games.

Frankly, I'm tired of military jargon, cover, ultra-serious guys delivering ultra-serious melodrama and completely interchangeable weaponry where everything does the same thing as everything else, just at different ranges.  I want the crazy back, dammit, and everything Bulletstorm has shown me leads me to believe that crazy is exactly what they're selling.

The demo and the trailers remind me of an FPS version of Vanquish.  Big bosses, crazed action, big guns and cool vistas.  If it turns out that that is an apt comparison, I will be all kinds of happy.

(interesting note, in the options screen in the demo there's a 'mature content' toggle.  It doesn't work in the demo, but its presence would mean that it's in the full game as well.  Besides no blood/gibs, I wonder how that will work with the dialogue?  Bleeps or TV edits (please be TV edits please be TV edits...))

Hey, I'm fairly sick of the cliched military-themed and space marine FPSs as well. Just not sure this is the answer.

Jacob,

(also yeah I'm with Shake I don't give a fuck gimmedisgame)

(but I am seriously a douche)
