On the plus side, they're teaching geometry in Alabama.

While in poor taste, that sounds like something that could get kids to pay a little more attention.
Why not use porn movies to teach biology then? That would also get their attention.
It would be SO much better if they taught proper sex education. So yeah, i agree.

But in Alabama, guns are alright. But DON'T YOU FUCKING DARE SAY THAT A PENIS CAN GO INTO A VAGINA. AND YOU'RE DEAD IF YOU ANSWERED "MAN'S ASS"

USA! USA! USA!

Fuck "getting kids interested in math". The fact that a teacher is illustrating geometric principals using a scenario that involves the death of President Obama is deeply troubling and no doubt a sign of a disturbed individual.

When I saw this headline I initially assumed that they were using the Kennedy assassination, the 6th floor window and the texas live oak to prove that Oswald was not the shooter. Worst case scenario? I thought maybe it was some lunatic trying to prove to school children that Oswald was the shooter.

I never thought, not in a million years, that a teacher would fantasize about and plan out the assassination of the current president as part of their math lesson plan.

Yeah. I'd like that the teacher instead use Alexander the Great instead of President Obama. At least Obama didn't give us one of the worst movie of the decade.

I am not sure how you'd chart a poisoning on the X-Y axis.

PS The only part of ALEXANDER (2004) that is outright bad? Angelina Jolie. She is terrible in the film and basically ruins every scene she is in.
Oliver Stone ruined every scene of the film. But back on topic, I love the US. Now please cut the hypocrisy and get to that civil war pronto.

Give specific examples, please, or else I am inclined to suspect that you are simply trolling me. Something that Devin warned you about before you finally pledged to put me on ignore

Re: Civil War

We already had it and we burned the south to the ground. Sadly the very freedoms we fought and died for allowed the scourge of racism and wingnuttery to live and infect future generations. I can't think of a single country on earth besides ours who allows the flag of the losing side in a civil war to be flown on government buildings.

The current secessionists are too busy drinking malt liquor in their trailers, fucking close relatives, collecting disability checks, having limbs amputated due to diabetes complications, and watching Glenn Beck to do anything actually interesting. They can't even make protesting with insane signage interesting. They just do the mirror universe version of the less imaginative radical progressive protesters.

I'm not joking nor trolling Kate. The movie is one of the worst movie ever made. When you manage to make the life of Alexander the Great boring, you fucked up. Me reading one of Pressfield's book about him makes a better movie than the Stone debacle.

Thread derail over.

Since you can't point to any specific flaws in the film I am going to chalk up your take to a difference of opinion. I think ALEXANDER is wonderfully thrilling.

Are you saying that anyone who believes Oswald was the shooter is a lunatic? Why is that a worst case scenario?

I'm not trying to pile on you, but I'm not sure if that's what you're saying or not.

That Geometry teacher needs to be instantly fired and thrown out of the school. Preferably with a protractor stuck up his ass.

Update: Teacher Who Illustrated Geometry With Assassination Put On Leave

Quote:
The superintendent of Jefferson County schools, Phil Hammonds, who originally said the unnamed teacher would only be punished with a long talk, now says the teacher could be fired.

The teacher was interviewed by the Secret Service and deemed not a threat.

From the Birmingham News:

Hammonds said the district has suffered great embarrassment by the teacher's "lack of judgment."

"As a district, we are embarrassed by his actions and what he said," Hammonds said. "There is nothing that can be said to rationalize what was said. We take this very seriously. There is no place in our society for a person to make these comments."

Next week, the Woodshop teacher gets fired for using lynching to explain how a pulley works.

For a good time, read the comments in that Birmingham News article.

I like the asshole (with the Reagan avatar! Hold on, let me put my surprised face on.) who keeps insisting that there was some huge and enthusiastic response for DEATH OF A PRESIDENT. Does anyone else remember that?

I don't know one fuckin' person who saw the damned thing. I do remember the news stations making hay about it...for roughly one week. Other than that, it can hardly be considered the "liberal block party" he insists.

Poor rednecks, convinced they're "loosing" their country.

Oh and there's this

Excuse me everyone commenting this story but i am a student at corner high school and well what he said and the way he went about teaching the lesson is very inappropriate but this man is a great teacher and has great methods of teaching but this one not being appropriate. i dont think that what he said was a threat but what he said was wrong and a very risky thing to say to students. althought coach harrison is a great teacher i attended his class for two years and i think that what he was trying stress was the lesson of angles and less of the focus of president obama. thank you for your time
If it's what it takes to get them to pay attention, maybe they should try to work Obama into some english courses.

I watched Death of a President about two weeks ago, and it's actually pretty good. However, the film clearly presents the assassination of Bush as a very fucking bad thing, and the effect of the wars at home. It's not really pushing an agenda, other than wars always have lasting effects, and it sure as shit wasn't calling for anyone to put a bullet into Bush.

This teacher is just fucking dumb though.
I seriously wonder if the response would be different if he used the Kennedy assassination instead.
Well yeah, he wouldn't be talking about the death of a living President. It'd still be inappropriate though.
