Fuck! Fuck, fuck, fuck, fucky-fuck. I couldn't be more displeased or selfishly angered by this news.

I felt they were just starting to really hit a new stride with Wavering Radiant. I guess they feel that's the peak they want to go out on. God. Damnit.

And there's sadly NO WAY I can make the Athens show w/ The Melvins, thanks to the Monday date. So much anger.

I'll miss you, ISIS.

Dammit. I was slowly falling in love with this band over the last couple years.

And I know it's not "why" they do it, but it really felt like their recognition was about to reach another level.

I don't know, following them as I have the past 5-6 years, this seems odd. I have to wonder if there's not a wee bit more to it than just "we've accomplished everything."

I refuse to believe that their creative well has run dry, because each album has been a fairly healthy step forward to me.

Well, their full farewell statement says they have one more album coming, so there's that at least.

Shame, I just got into them over the last few months.

For me it's more that I'll never get to see them live in a smaller, more "proper" environment. And I could've busted my ass to do it, I just took them for granted.

I saw them live twice, but it was opening for Tool. And a band like that in the opening slot in an arena doesn't sound as good as they could (though they were still amazing).

Yeah, this news totally fucking sucks. I was really rotted when I found out. I think I may somehow love Wavering Radiant even more than Panopticon (and that's without Matt fucking Bayles at the helm!). The only thing that comforts me is I have total faith in whatever Aaron Turner bangs out next. Old Man Gloom are pretty fucking sick. Man, I'd love to go to Montreal to see their final show. Cave In are on their bill too! What a concert that's gonna be.

Much as it pains me, I can totally understand when a band makes a decision like this. There's a band like the Melvins that can go on for ages, in ever changing constellations, and just get better through the years. But those are the exceptions- and the revolving line-up is a way of fighting creative bankrupcy, probably. After a while, the danger of falling back to the same group mechanisms is just too real, and as a working band you're probably the last to notice.
Maybe look on the bright side! All of those guys will start up new projects, no doubt. And each of them has the potential to come up with something as awesome as Isis. It might be called the Kyuss effect.
