Who thought the internet would cause world peace?

I'm wondering so that I can flame the shit out of these people. It's amazing how wrong they were. An average conversation that entails a back-and-forth discourse, in which errors and admissions are made, is quite difficult to be found on the internet. Most well-reasoned arguments are written the old way, in articles or essays that aren't in demand of immediate response, or a pseudo-conversational forum chat.

Much fighting on these boards would not happen if these discussions were in reality. I positively believe this. But I cannot single out CHUD - it's everywhere. Typical arguments that happen between friends will label one side an idiot, or disparage one's character. Yes, we all say stupid shit, but the internet lacks empathy that allows us to form any real connections, so why bother talking to people on the internet boards? Empathy is not the same as agreeing with what somebody says.

I'm done with forum chat and other online chat. It serves to make one feel positively or negatively about their character, not to form a more enlightened perspective in another.

I wouldn't be surprised if the "world peace" bit is denied like it was a silly fantasy of only my own, and perhaps a few other weirdos. But there was definitely a time when this was considered a possibility. And this could also be considered a person response to how I've been received on these boards, but I've witnessed the same thing everywhere, even when concerning popular board members - because one posts on the internet to socially hate. This is different than hating a thing outside the interwebs, in that the social construct itself is what's hated. Maybe it's browncoats or somebody who didn't immediately realize that LCD Soundsystem could be more honest in their music than initially thought. (hahaha)

But in seriousness, this is why the internet hasn't brought about great social change.

Anyways, fuck you all.

Louse, before you go forever, please just tell us honestly...you're really Tommy Wiseau, right?

Louise, what the hell are you babbling about? In any case, all the best.

So long and thanks for all the dreariness.

An appropriately stupid note on which to bow out.

I love how Louse announces his pretext for leaving in the guise of a post concerning "world peace" in a forum for titled Miscellaneous Culture! This puts the "mis" in miscellaneous culture, don't you think?

Dude, you gotta come back and do it right. Meltdowns are reserved for the Catch-All.

I guess I kind of added to this whole situation. I'm not proud of that fact, but I frequently denied the world unified peace by telling Dreary Louse he was wrong. But I didn't want him to leave. To quote one of the new Hold Steady songs, "I don't want you to settle, I want you to grow."

Louse drove me crazy when he posted sometimes, but I thought there was a kernel of something interesting about him. But he insisted on being so thoroughly condescending and self-righteous, I couldn't help myself. So my apologies, Louse. Again, I was never angry. I just sometimes like to disagree.

Come back anytime.

I thought we were going to have a good argument on something or other. Then I find out it's a goodbye letter. Yawn.

I think you care too much to leave if you write something like this.

Who cares.
