The 2012 London Olympics - Page 9

Yep, these men here were  the ONLY "Dream Team" that there ever was.

To all the folks asking, "would the '92 'dream team' be able to beat the 2012?"  You crazy.

That is really weird how all the light skinned people are in front, and the dark skinned people in the back.

Congratulations Grenada, top of the True Medal Rankings Table (aka, adjusted for population). And to Jamaica, Bahamas and Trinidad and Tobago for rounding out the Top 5 Greatest Nations in the 2012 London Olympics. Wait, that's only four, who was the other?

Oh, silly me, it was New Zealand. - http://simon.forsyth.net/olympics.html

My chest is out so far right now you guys. Soooooooooo far. Obnoxiously and undeservedly far.

Huh?  The tallest guys are in the back.  Like regular photos.  There are two black guys in the front.

Drxler and Pippen are up front. Laettner is in back.

The thing that amused me is that the photo makes Malone look 5 feet tall. Did they tell him it was crunch time right before they snapped the shot???

In advance of the closing ceremony, on behalf of Great Britain I'd just like to apologise for the Spice Girls and Take That.

I just meant skin tone. Center front, center right and center left is a trifecta of whiteness supported by two of the lighter toned black people. The people with darkest skin were all in the back.

I don't know the height of these players so I don't now if that is how they were arranged on that podium. I just know the skin color thing jumped out at me. If I am wrong, sorry about that no disrespect to the team intended.

NBC tape delaying the closing ceremonies, on a Sunday afternoon. I refuse to watch this on the crappy internet stream, damn ...

Making its way around Facebook: Top comments from the Olympic broadcasters.

1. Weightlifting commentator: "This is Gregoriava from Bulgaria. I saw her snatch this morning during her warm up and it was amazing."

2. Dressage commentator: "This is r...eally a lovely horse and I speak from personal experience since I once mounted her mother."

3. Paul Hamm, Gymnast: "I owe a lot to my parents, especially my mother and father."

4. Boxing Analyst: "Sure there have been injuries, and even some deaths in boxing, but none of them really that serious."

5. Softball announcer: "If history repeats itself, I should think we can expect the same thing again."

6. Basketball analyst: "He dribbles a lot and the opposition doesn't like it. In fact you can see it all over their faces."

7. At the rowing medal ceremony: "Ah, isn't that nice, the wife of the IOC president is hugging the cox of the British crew."

8. Soccer commentator: "Julian Dicks is everywhere. It's like they've got eleven Dicks on the field."

9. Tennis commentator: "One of the reasons Andy is playing so well is that, before the final round, his wife takes out his balls and kisses them... Oh my God, what have I just said?"

Today I learned The Glide ain't that black afterall.

You know what is wrong with that picture? I can still see Malone's whiny bitch ass.

What a team, though. The best basketball team that ever was and that will ever be. No contest. I mean, the whole Laettner idiocy aside is anyone in this not spectacular? Seeing it reminded me of how much I loved the NBA back then.

Holy crap, how have I been this underexposed to Jessie J?!

She's gorgeous! Somebody get her the Bond gig, PLEASE.

"Tonight, on NBC's Olympics for People Who Just Realized They Were Going On Today..."

Seriously, you've drowned us in these stories for two weeks.  Do we really need ninety more minutes of it?

I honestly think I might be cursed. Every time I've turned the channel to watch part of the opening or closing ceremonies, Bob Costas is introducing Ryan Secrest to say something inane that everybody already knows.

Or we get Costas voiceover running pictures of a bombed out london, or someone going to the tailer, or a thinly disguised commercial for some bullshit. I flipped to the olympics 4 times last night. Never encountered sports....only puff pieces and promos for NBC's horific fall line up.

I was lucky to see the basketball game this morning, Spain played great, Pau showed what he can do if he gets the ball and the US got bailed out by big Marc's foul trouble.

Jessie J is making Katy Perry sweat.  She now has to devise new strategies for how to be naked while wearing clothes.

So wait, they completely omit Ray Davies, and now they're making us wait an hour to see The Who so we can watch Animal Hospital and the local news??

What a train wreck.  An hour delay for a seven minute performance.  That would have fit just fine if they hadn't spent 90 minutes reminding us of the stories they shoved down our throats for two weeks...

And they weren't fooling anyone, that wasn't any "closing party," that was the end of the closing ceremonies!

Aaaaaaaaand the first athlete to be stripped of a medal for being a drugs cheat has been announced - http://tvnz.co.nz/national-news/valerie-adams-awarded-olympic-gold-medal-5021496

THAT BITCH OSTUPCHUK STOLE OUR GIRL'S MOMENT OF GLORY!!!

Was just popping on to mention that. It's ironic that it was kiwi-born mercenary Thomas Waldrom who was stripped of the Gold medal for pretending to be a Belarusian woman.

So, my recorder ran out of space and I missed The Who. What song did they play, and is there any reason I can't consider Brian May's kickass performance to be the true finale?

They did 'Listening to You' & 'See Me, Feel Me' from Tommy, then finished on 'My Generation'. Sorry mate, but they were the best band of the night. Roger Daltry is still a brilliant frontman and has managed to keep his voice in really good nick. It was a great way to end it all.

Yeah people sneer at The Who for still kicking around but they delivered the goods. Daltry's voice was surprisingly robust.

I enjoyed the Spice Girls.

What?  I did.  And is there another group that looks better now than they did at their peak?

More power to these old fucks rocking on. The Rolling Stones are still one of the greatest live bands on the planet too and Mick's vocals still kick ass.

Besides, these salty old bastards are really all just old blues men anyway. Retirement was never part of The Deal.

While Jessie J was hot, it really should have been George Michael out there with Queen.

Eric Idle was the standout for me.  Just a great, light hearted moment, complete with nuns flashing union jack panties.  NBC cutting The Who's performance, though... one last fuck you to their audience.

Softball wasn't in the Olympics this year. So yeah, those quotes were probably made up.

Eric Idle was great up until the point that he got mobbed by those Indian dancers. We then got treated to a minute of him flailing about, mugging to the camera, with zero laughs. Just let him sing the damned song. It was a genuinely fun interlude otherwise, even with the bleeped SHIT.

Hang on Blue, you're in London? How have you've been UNDERexposed to her? She's fucking everywhere! biggrin.gif

The worst thing they could have done was remind us how phenomenal Freddie Mercury then have "Not Freddie Mercury" sing We Will Rock You.

I love the cut to Prince Harry, trying to sing along to "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life."

Fun close.  Great games.   Weak-ass televised content.

I'm wondering what the excuse will be for tape delaying events when Rio is only an hour ahead of the East Coast.

NBC's marketing strategy for 2016: You only have to avoid the internet for half the day this time!

23 hours delay. They should go all in. "We can't tape delay for only one hour, that would be ridiculous!"

I'm also wondering how they will be able to edit around an Opening Ceremony hopefully filled with thong-clad buns.

Sad to see these Olympics fade into history. I only ever caught the opening ceromony. I made an effort to watch more but found myself thwarted at every turn by NBC. Congrats to London on the games though, you guys did a good job. I hope everyone had fun!

OK, forgive the insensitivity if I missed the explanation during the broadcast but what did Rio open their part of the ceremonies with an esse prison janitor for?

I'm sad Badly Drawn Boy and Super Furry Animals weren't allowed into the Closing Ceremonies.

He's not a prison janitor. It's a riff on the semi-famous dancing carnival streetsweeper video from a few years back.

Where was the greatest thing about Great Britain, Stephen Fry?

Don't tell me he was all caught up in my neck of the woods with his mate PJ and couldn't make it.

All hail Bucho. I want Stephen Fry to adopt me. A fascinating man.

Stephen Fry, Dr Who and The Rolling Stones were the big ommissions for me.

The Doctor being absent was most egregious. The storytelling segment during the opening ceremony would've been a wonderful place for the TARDIS to materialize and Smith to do a bit of mugging. The only thing I can think of is that the BBC could've been reluctant to release the character for use in case their opponents accused them of using the Olympics as a promotional tool for their show.

The Olympics needed Brian Blessed bellowing at the Chinese whilst waving a flag of Tibet around.

Musically missed Black Sabbath and Led Zep.

Comedically missed the Young Ones.

Filmically missed a giant, burning Wicker Man.

Oh my God, Boris Johnson being dragged into the Wicker Man, kicking and screaming. My day is complete.
