Obama to shit on wreath/flag come Monday

Just to clear this minor squabble out of the Oil thread...

http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/memorialday.asp

Now... who wants to whine about this?

So Arlington is the end all, be all? Another Memorial Service somewhere else just won't suffice in any way?

I'm sorry, but this just toes over the line into superstitious nonsense to me.

I guarantee you 99% of the people bitching about this won't come within a mile of a cemetery on Monday.

And those men interred in Chicago somehow sacrificed less than those in Arlington?

Remember, it's only bad when Obama does it.

I also love how Dr. V mentioned in the other thread how it's still different because "we're at war" right now. Stepping aside the odd logic there...

Bush was in France during Memorial Day 2002. FRANCE, people!

He will probably go to a celebration of the 13th Waffen Mountain Division of the SS Handschar and then have filthy anal sex with the wives of disabled Iraq veterans in front of them. And then use the US flag as a cum rag.

I wouldn't put that beneath him.

Now I'm just kind of hoping that he does all of that just to spite these aggressively dumb motherfuckers.

Please show me where I said that., JP....I don't recall making any such statements.

As for the Snopes thing, if anything, I think it was wrong of Bush 41 to vacation on his boat as well. I don't care if the president is a Rep or a Dem, I think that they should be a leader for things like this. Being a ceremonial leader is part of the job description.

I'm glad Obama is doing his thing for Memorial Day somewhere, at least.

My father served in Europe and Central America during the Second World War. If his grave wasn't several states away, I would definitely be visiting.
But I will visit a local memorial for a moment of rememberance.

I suppose everyone doesn't have a personal attachment to what has come before today. As always, your milage may vary.

Oof! You're right. Apologies, Dr. V. It was MoonBaseNick who said the thing about being at war.

It's not that I try to trivialize the day itself or what it means. I just think it's very silly to, once again, paint Obama (or ANY other President) as some sort of vile piece of scum just because he's not going to that PARTICULAR cemetery.

If anything, that sort of devalues other cemeteries (such as the one Obama will be visiting that day).

yeah, it was me.

No problem, JP, we're all friends here. I don't come here to inflame but to discuss and exchange ideas. When I'm shown to be wrong, I'll admit it. I'e done so in the past.

What I was lead to understand about Obama's trip to Chigago was he was not going to be doing anything involving the holiday on an official level. It's not like I wanted him to personally dig graves at Arlington. I just wanted some public acknowledgement of what the day means to many Americans.

And like always, the right-wing nutjobs in the media neglect to impart this particular piece of info, and even go so far as to imply that he isn't actually doing anything at all for the holiday.

And so will the President. The country's not at war anyway. No one is selling war bonds. There are no victory gardens. Congress hasn't declared shit. I realize, quite clearly, that the Marines are at war. America will be at the mall. It doesn't really matter where the president is. Until the country decides that going to war is a really. important. decision - it's nothing but sentiment.

He meant that there's not a national war effort going on like you saw in WWII.

Nor would we ever see America truly pull together like that ever again sadly.
I don't believe for one second that our President is "shitting on the wreath/flag ceremony and I know what he's doing in Chicago. It's my own personal opinion that I feel that it'll be best if he was in Arlington. But I say this knowing that if I was President, I would spend at least one memorial day in my home state.

The right wing is all about gestures. That's why so many of the anti-gay right wingers like to suck dick - it doesn't matter what you do or think, just what gestures you make in public.

This is like the lapel flag button stuff. Stop focusing on dumb shit, it makes everybody think you're a retard.

Some people just have to find something to bitch about. They'll find any reason to bitch and moan.

And symbolism. Never mind if you stamp all over the freedoms the flag represents, you'd damn well better be against someone burning it!

So a severe thunderstorm forced them to call off Obama' speech in Chicago. I can't wait for the "God showed his anger" lunacy to start in on that.

Ahem, here's how I spent Memorial Day

1. Took a three and a half hour hike

2. Ate a full rack of Baby Back Ribs!

3. Swam 30 laps in my Gym's Olympic size swimming pool

4. Spent a half hour at the driving range

5. Settled in to finish "Blair Unbound", a really good Bio of Tony Blair from 2001-2007.

I did not make any Memorial Speeches.

Look how pissed Obama looks. Certainly not rested and ready. Guess he should have stayed in Washington where Biden had an evidentally glorious day playing his role.

But hey, how about those Cubs!

White Sox?

Bears?

Blackhawks! There ya go.

Obama was able before the storm to quietly lay a wreath at another part of the cemetery, and then stood, his head bowed, as a bugler played "Taps."
But he didn't do it at Arlington, so it doesn't matter!!!

Idiots.

Conservatives can go choke on a cock.

This is why I can't stand the right. Just pathetic, outright LYING.
