Idiots On A Plane

Thread Starter
Maybe there should be a catch all for stupid shit that happens on airplanes, so I'll start it off:

Ferndale woman suing after she fell asleep on plane

http://news.yahoo.com/s/y_detroit/y_detroit_ts2286

How the fuck do you sleep through a plane landing and everyone getting off of it? Was she medicated? The story is very light on details. The woman seems like an definite idiot turned cash grabbing cunt, but what's up with airlines as of late? I understand someone's belonging maybe getting left behind, but an actual person!?

That story made me laugh. It sounds like the beginning of a zany comedy. Kind of like The Hangover but sad.
Would have been awesome if before getting off, the person sitting next to her told the flight attendant:

"Don't wake my friend. She's dead tired"

"Cunt"? You're so unpleasant.

Maybe she was medicated. Thousands of people self medicate to fly. Are you medicated? Is that why your posts are so grotesque?
She must have had some good drugs to sleep that hard.
If nobody attempted wake her up it's not so hard, especially if she was medicated. Hell, you'd just need to be a sound sleeper.

I don't know why she's suing but it is bizarre that nobody woke her up

No, she probably just took Ambien or something.

"false imprisonment, emotional distress and negligence"

BOO HOO. Seriously?

If it were me, it would end up as an amusing anecdote I'd tell while out drinking, like the time I was stuck in an elevator.

A guy who spends so much time calling people retarded and even occasionally fag is complaining about the word cunt? Do you even have any awareness of yourself at all?

Whatta cunt.

Peace out!
The lady seemed like she was a mixture of:

being almost on the verge of tears

about to crack up

enjoying telling her anecdote

possibly still medicated

Something about her mannerisms just read as odd to me. Suing the airline sounds misguided, but don't flight attendants do a double check through the entire plane once everyone has presumably gotten off?
False imprisonment will never stick, if I understand the charge correctly. You'd have to prove that they willfully "imprisoned" her in some fashion

erm... [derail]

Dude, I was just gonna let that one go, as part of my new, serious effort to pick my goddamn battles. But bless your heart.

[/derail]

It doesn't seem implausible to me that she could have easily slept through landing, esp. if she travels a lot or was medicated. But her reaction to the whole thing is a bit weird, yeah.

Thank god Smeagol finally got banned. What an insufferably bitter little shithead.
So this one time, Kevin Smith was on a plane....
I've NEVER been on a flight where everyone disembarked with anything less than a thunderous noise of retardation and clumsy lack of coordination. Did her entire plane sneak off like monks?

And just so I'm straight on this, calling out hypocrisy is a bannable offense? (And did Devin call someone a fag?)
Everything is a bannable offense.
Smeagol's gone! Best. Thread. Ever.

No "dead tired" COMMANDO jokes yet?

I've slept through many take-offs thanks to the free booze in the lounge but sleeping through a landing, along with the subsequent cattle drive to get off the plane, suggests serious meds were taken. Or, more likely, it's a scam.

Um, This is a clear case of the cabin crew not doing their job. My sister has anxiety attacks when she flies and deals with them via judicious application of Gravol and free airplane wine. As a result she's often very drowsy by the time she arrives at her destination, but the cabin crew has always noticed her & woken her up when the plane's arrived. It seems like laziness or gross negligence on the crew's part. It's the lady's right to sue, I just hope she doesn't get that much (Or anything at all) as she doesn't seem to be really put out by the experience. This is a non-story.

Now if you want to hear about the time I flew home Jamaica where some idiot tried to smoke weed in the plane's bathroom because he thought the sensors would only pick up cigarette smoke, just let me know...

I never understand why regular people get mad about lawsuits. If it's frivolous, she won't win. No harm, no foul. The right to sue is very important, especially for consumers. It's like people are automatically on the side of the corporation, not the consumer. I don't get it.
I've long suspected it's jealousy over say, someone falling arse backwards into money for basically oversleeping.

I'm not on the side of corporations, but it seems more and more often people sue because they don't want to accept the responsibility of their own actions. It's symptomatic of our society becoming a society of blame. And plus it ties up the legal system with useless litigation.

I have to agree. I always figured that someone would go through the plane to make sure everyone and everything was off. That seems to be a security risk to not do that. Thank God this woman was just asleep and not a person with ill intentions.

I am absolutely maddened by the number of real people who identify more with corporate "persons" than their friends and neighbors.

With our regulatory system as dessicated and withered as it is by this point, civil suits are the only thing keeping the corporations in line at all.
Everybody seems surprised by how easily she was left on the plane, but...

It's always been my experience that a person has to work really hard to get noticed by anyone these days. Everyone seems to just be keeping their heads down and getting through the day. Whoever said that was a security risk, by the way, that's a bingo.

As far as the lawsuits go, I agree with Devin that the right to sue is important. I also agree that unnecessary litigation ties up our courts. This country isn't quite to Bleak House level of judiciary inefficiency, but it's going to get close one day. I guess that's just a necessary side effect of allowing any kind of lawsuits against corporate entities.

Well, just consider how many "properties" inspire rabid fandom among the population (don't limit it to just fictional characters and narratives either: think apple). I think people may be beginning to feel as if they know these corporations in the same way they know their actual friends and family.

EDIT: I just wanted to add that the apple thing isn't intended as a snipe towards anyone here. I know people irl that truly believe that Steve Jobs personally cares about their individual computing experiences and feelings, and I tend to disagree with that sentiment.

Really no one has ever won a frivolous lawsuit before?

Yeah, people have won frivolous lawsuits before. Those that weren't frivolous ended up getting way more money than they deserve.

No harm, no foul?? So if someone sues you for something stupid, and you have to go to court and waste YOUR time, have everyone's time wasted, have tax dollars wasted, all because some cunt wants your money (lots of it too, simply because you have it)....that's no harm, no foul? Everybody could be at home! Or working on more important shit!

Also it encourages more people to not just sue companies...but sue ANYONE. Don't you understand that?

Okay, airline fucked up, fine. But she wasn't a child and she was left on the plane for FOUR HOURS! It's not like it turned into "Alive" over there.

See post #3. And what airline/airport give out free booze? That's my next vacation destination.

D'oh! Is the egg showing or what?

Pretty much every airline I travel on gives out free booze in the lounge, and then before and during the flight.

In Business or First, I mean. Sorry for you folks in Steerage. But I'm sure the water makes for a nice pairing with the trail mix and/or peanuts.
