"They Live" and "South Park", why they're connected

So I was watching this special on South Park this weekend on VH1 (it's one of my favorite shows), and I heard this sweet tidbit of information.

Anyone whose a fan of the show probably remembers the infamous episode when Soutpark's handicapped heroes Timmy and Jimmy duked it out. As Cartman so delicately put it... "cripple fight!"

Anyways...apperantly Trey and Matt are huge fans of John Carpenter's "They Live", because that ENTIRE fight sequence is done shot for shot the way that Carpenter did his epic 20 minute fight in "They Live" (obviously shorter though).

They even showed scenes of it in a split screen and it is so hilarious how spot on it is. They even say some of the same lines!

Anyways, I just thought I'd share this with you guys because I thought it was one of the coolest things I"ve ever heard... It made me gain even more respect for Parker and Stone.

It's weird because I just watched They Live for the first time on Friday night and thought that scene was so funny. I mean 20 minutes is overkill to say the least.

Fight's eight minutes long...

it was supposed to be like, 30 seconds long but they improvised the whole thing and CArpenter loved it all so he kept it all in. i think its hilarious.

Parker and Stone have always been fans of horror and gore.

Just watch their first effort, Cannibal:The Musical.

Horror laced with humor is what they like. I'd love to see them do a horror spoof, like the Scary Movie or Student Bodies vibe.

I can't wait to see their Thunderbirds-style puppet movie.

They're still cool after all the success too, which is what I think makes them a cut above the rest.

They recently did a cameo in Troma's "Tales From The Crapper"... which as Lloyd Kaufman puts it in his latest book "isn't exactly a good career move".

In the special on VH1 they also showed a snippet from a scene where Cartman reenacts a scene from Silence of the Lambs with a doll. That cracks my ass up every time.
