After years of reading this on and off in 2000ad, I finally bought all of the SEARCH/DESTROY CASEFILES. This is basically a future Western and it's a lot of fun. You get a ton of wacky aliens, madcap action and bounty hunting gadgets. If Hollywood really wants to make "Western's with a twist" this should be it. The premise:
Alpha's a "best there is" type who does whatever it takes to get the job done, but he's also an ex-freedom fighter who fought for Mutant rights. Wulf is the "Ja, Ja...." muscle who smashes people with a giant mallet. THE GRONK is a timid alien medic who shows up in some of the earlier stories. He was phased out later on.
I just finished the first volume. THE SHICKLGRUBER GRAB (a bunch of Strontium Dogs race to collect a million cred 'timejob' bounty on Adolf Hitler) and the follow-up MUTIE'S LUCK (Johnny and Wulf in a casino) were my personal favorites.

| Late 22nd century. After the Atomic Wars of 2150, many survivors were warped by the Strontium 90 fallout. These 'mutants' became a vicitmized underclass, and the only job open to them was bounty hunting. One such STRONTIUM DOG is Johnny Alpha, partnered with his Viking buddy Wulf Sternhammer. |
