The Walking Dead (AMC + Darabont) - Page 40

What's so hard to understand? The show is losing us, but it hasn't lost us per se. I watched Heroes until halfway through season 2 because I truly felt it could turn into a better show, unfortunately it just got worse and, yeah, I eventually tuned out completely. The Walking Dead started off awesomely and has a lot of potential, which is why people are still watching it, but if it stay like this for another season then chances a lot of people WILL stop watching.

Watching six hours of television over the course of six weeks is hardly a large commitment.

Seriously, this idea of 'LOVE IT OR LEAVE IT' is monumentally stupid.

Surprised this hasn't come up in the post-finale comments...

In the premiere, the most haunting/effective scene is the zombie mom turning the door handle, trying to get back into the home where she was recently holed up with her family. (It's so good they used it in the credits.) It's stated or at least implied she does this a lot, as if she has some residual memory of her time as a living human.

In the finale, suicidal scientist says zombies retain NONE of their human personality/memory. Which means one of two things:

(1) The writers changed the mythology just 5 episodes later (or have absolutely no sense of continuity).

(2) The scientist is wrong. But in that case, why doesn't main deputy tell him, "but wait! I know zombies have memories!" He just accepts the point even though he has first hand knowledge that it's wrong. No drama, and the issue isn't raised again in the episode (and will anyone really remember a detail like that in a year?).

Either way, sloppy writing. Hard to remember another show that fell so far so quickly.

Well I guess is the logical end result of the internet's "it sucks or it rocks" thing. Why it shows up in a website mostly centered around genres and niches where something like 95% of the movies have obvious flaws we are all able to live with to enjoy the enjoyable parts is beyond me. Can't wait till it becomes "if you weren't totally sold on the premise, why did you even watch the pilot?"

My friend's comments about the finale:

Made me laugh. I hadn't thought about it, but its true, every Black woman I know would be the first to want to get the fuck out. I guess kudos to the show for not portraying Jacqui as the no-nonsense sassy Black woman.

It did come up several pages back and the response from apologists was a) Jenner could be wrong and b) turn off your brain.

For some reason, b) made me laugh pretty hard.
That's an oversimplification anyhow. You can keep the stem going; it's just the higher functions that cause issues.
Schwartz, what's an oversimplification? Jenner explicitly tells Andrea that Amy is gone; its just her shell. We're led to believe that what makes you "you" dies and doesn't come back once zombification happens. But it does fly in the face of what we've seen zombies do with the aforementioned wife example, as well as the kid who picks up her stuffed animal in the series opening scene.

It was a horrible, horrible joke, Diva.

Yeah, I figured he was riffing. I thought it was pretty funny, Schwartz.

Ah, feel the love. I guess I'm a mouth breathing retard because I like TWD.. and I'm ok with that. Seriously though, can we get some MORE snark in this thread? I don't think there's enough of it going around.

If snark bothers you so much would you care for some puns?

Would you say that the discussion in this thread has jumped the snark?

I myself have mixed feelings about this show, but the people who like it need to be just a teensy bit less sensitive. People are bringing up valid criticisms (for the most part) and they're being dismissed as "haters" or what have you. Can't we all just get along?

Reading this thread is depressing. The mindless hive of internet haters have obviously descended upon this show, intent on ruining what has been a truly great show which has transcended the fanboy audience to being a true hit. This season has pretty much been perfect, the pilot had a few hiccups but since then the show has been firing all cylinders and easily become the best thing on tv right now. The only problem I've had with the show since the pilot is the death of Andrea's cute sister which was a shame. In addition to being incredibely hot she is also a great actress and gave a great performance in Frozen. She should have stuck around the show for a lot longer so that at the very least we could have seen her in that shower montage in the finale. I'm no fanboy, I've never read the comic but this show has had so much badass stuff going on in just 6 episode that I find it completely unfathomable how anyone could hate it. I hope AMC brings the show back in the summer instead of making us wait until the fall.

Don't all zombie stories rely on this (a slight recall of human memories, at a basic level) at part of their mythos? Otherwise Zombies would have to spend the first hours of their undead lives learning how to walk. And then eat. And the horror would die off faster than it did in esp 5 & 6 of this misfire.

People dislike the show because the excution is medicore, whereas the potential is far greater. I fail to see how anyone can call this show "pretty much perfect" when so much could be improved on.

Ha, Swanson! Long time no read. So strident. So wrong.

Watch more television. Seriously. Because Mad Men, Breaking Bad, Boardwalk Empire, Louie, and countless others would like a word with you.

Caught up with this on disc(other than the premiere which I caught the the AMC site, easily the strongest episode). Really like the show a lot overall. MANY nitpicks(I read about half of this thread skipping around and a lot of your points/nitpicks are completely valid). Many of my issues with the writing could be "fixed" with just a few lines of dialogue, which is frustrating. Certain characters should have died simply to off some of the weaker actors(Lori, and Shane to a lesser extent) but I realize they have to keep the core group to stick with the comic, and recasting would be royally annoying as I'm a stickler for continuity. Others, perhaps shouldn't have been killed off(thinking of the guy who got bit that they left by the tree, his name is eluding me), as I felt he was one of the better actors.

The show have stayed at the camp for far less of the season, so I guess I liked the CDC stuff more than most of you, and how it mixed things up a bit. I'm sure it was mentioned, but the "Nooooo!" when the lab was burned had me cracking up. The scene felt like it was being played for laughs("lol whatta boob!"). I hope the writers/directors get the tone a bit more even for S2.

Agreed with Parker and a few others about a lot of the LOL SO BAD moments of the finale, but at the same time the episode had some really effective parts("You can't come into someone's life, make them care, and just decide to check out!" as Diva mentioned. Really good). Curious how they're going to handle Carl being a year older even though they're picking up S2 immediately following the events of this season.

This series is one of the few times I regret not having television, as I really wish I had been a part of the discussion. Oh well, maybe I will by the time S2 rolls around.

And now this thread can die again.

As has been said many times, if you're that interested in the show and want to watch it basically just a day late, the episodes are available for purchase off Amazon, iTunes and most video on demand services the day after it airs.  I've canceled my cable since the first season ended and will certainly have to do that with Season 2 myself.
