Burn Notice Season 4

It's back!

So far I like the additions. Vaughn speaking for management works well, he's approachable unlike what we've seen from management so far. It looks like a season of slowly unraveling who the bankroll behind Simon is while we deal with our regular clients on a weekly basis.

I really enjoyed that they're changing up Michael's relationship with his Mom a bit. She earned some trust in the season finale and it's paying off.

Mostly, I loved that Michael accidentally burned another spy. We'll see how much they have this play out and how serious they get with how hard this should be for Michael.

Just in time, so many shows just had their finales and Burn Notice rides back to save the day.

I was only able to watch the last 10 minutes. It was nice to see Micheal tell his mom what he had to do to clear his name.

I liked that Michael got thrown straight into a job with Sam and Fi too, that was as good of a welcome back as he could have gotten. I also love the biker dude punching the other biker in the gut with his bullet-laden right arm at the end.

So glad this is back.

Ironside had a very very brief appearance. Weird.

Sitting on the TiVo waiting for me to watch it. Glad this is back ... I wonder if The Good Guys (also by Nix) will be able to run with it as well.

I wonder if that whole thing was just a show for Michael, just a grand stage play to get him to work for Management. Seemed too weird to throw in Ironside and then kill him in seconds.

Michael accidentally burning a spy is great, and it does seem like the show is setting up a solid seasonal arc here. Hopefully an improvement on S3 which burned through arcs like Management burned through spies.
well it shouldn't be too spoilery to know that SWIPE TO READ

Coby Bell has joined the cast as the burned spy. Good to add a new member I think.

Yeah, getting signed up to the sixth season seems to have given them appetite to use a slightly bigger canvass. They should be careful about not turning this into some kind of jumbled together Alias mess though.

Loved Fiona taking that helmet and smashing it against that huge biker's head. Fi is hardcore.

Yup shes soooooooooo trigger happy.

Anyway yeah that was a really great opening. It was nice to Michael getting out of Miami even if it did look kinda of phony. Love that some of Michaels tricks are starting to have consequences. We saw it earlier with his mother's friend and now we are really seeing it.
Fucking awful. Completely ruined the prison set-up. We couldn't have had Michael escape after a few episodes? Or have him at least play cat and mouse for a little while? We're back to the A-Team story of the week ALREADY. I was actually falling asleep during the biker storyline shenanigans. When Michael takes the two Mac-10s and approaches the 3 bikers, and lets them draw down on him, it was completely fucktarded. Even if he thinks he can talk them down, was it worth taking that chance? Really? They completely wasted the great story arc that the last season finished on.

Also, seemed like Michael Ironsides is pretty dead. If so, worst use of a quality actor in a cameo, ever.

well Jesse moving into Michael's mom's garage was obvious. Will enjoy watching him as part of the team.

Season extended!

Extra episodes later this year (in the winter). Good news for Burn Notice and/or Royal Pains fans.

This looks to be a season-long storyline with the other burned spy. I just don't see how it can turnout well for either Jesse or Michael. But it definitely makes it slightly more interesting that what I was expecting.
Chuck Finley returned tonight and I enjoyed it.
Fi's excitement at the idea of taking out the wiseguy's in Miami was both adorable and kind of creepy. The grin sold it. "We haven't done that before!"

"I am now officially the closest friend of a TOTAL PSYCHOPATH." I also have to say, I felt kind of bad about Tony at the end. He looked so hurt when "Charles Finley" abandoned him.

I don't why anyone would be bothered by Michael's mom. She's really grown over the years and I like that Michael can't bullshit her. Like, at all.
great episode. Chuck Finley. Mob wars. Jesse learning a valuable lesson about Sam's real life stories...

Enjoyed Fi and Jesse's sidetrip vacation. Not a bad episode, but next week's looks like its going to be a lot of fun.

What the hell happened to the guy in the trunk?
I'll be honest, I'm starting to get a bit bored by Burn Notice.
Maybe I wasn't paying attention last night, but what happened to the money in the safe? How did they get it out?

they dropped the safe from the second floor and it opened up.
Thought that was a great episode, just lots of Mike and Sam goodness (and no silly personas).

What do you mean "get it out"? I'm sure the cops confiscated it and got it to its rightful owners eventually.
I saw them break open the safe, and I saw the banker's box packed full of the money on the table next to the safe, but once the cops came in, there was no mention of it, or even Sam and Michael handing over a bunch to the charity guy with a line like "here, this will keep your charity open." They just made some reference to them getting in touch with Barry.

Solid episode last night which was pretty fun. Now that they have a fashion designer for a friend, let's hope he makes some fun costumes for Michael and Fi.

The file-sharing part was one of the best spy-tips ever.

Truth is, until the episode ended, I thought he was in on it. I've loved "Kendra" since she played the pyscho Slayer on Angel.
Navi Rawat (Kendra) is really cute, but... damn, she cannot act at all. I actually cringed at a couple of her line deliveries. When you're getting blown off the screen by the new guy on Burn Notice, you're a lost cause. The self-head-bashing was believable though!

I'm just waiting for the show to stop spinning its wheels and get back to the main storyline.

And wondering how Gabrielle Anwar could look so much hotter this season. It's magic!
I loved the little callback to Michael's El Diablo character. Can't remember the line, but it was something about snapping his fingers and making things disappear.

Well, with Burt Reynolds on next week, I doubt it'll be a particularly plot advancing story. And like you didn't know that the new guy wouldn't find out that Michael is the one who got him burned in the season finale.
When does Burn Notice ever stop spinning its wheels? That's kinda its shtick. Fun standalones with a tiny bit of arc advancement in the background.

Every Episode of Burn Notice Ever:

Kinda true.
Yeah, that's kind of why I have trouble watching the show sometimes. Just too much the same thing.

I was really kind of hoping that they might pick a different city for different seasons or something to at least mix it up a bit.
I"d still love to see him host SNL.
The show is a modern day A-Team, and as such has an oft-repeated formula, no doubt. But for me, the work of the main cast is enough to make up for that and keep it fun and enjoyable.
yeah that's kinda the reason I stopped watching the show. I just got tired of the same thing every week.
But the show does the same thing so well. It's a bit monotonous watching several episodes in a row on DVD, sure. You can say that about so many shows, though. TV series obviously aren't 2-hour feature films and you don't always have advanced notice when the series is coming to an end. So, you have go-to formulas to make sure that you can still churn out 13 to 24 hours of entertainment in the course of a year without burning your main storyline too early. A great show can break out of that mold. But a good show has a workable formula that they consistently use well. Burn Notice is a good show.

I happen to really like the formula Burn Notice uses. The main "Who Burned Michael" plot line moves along a little bit each episode while the gang works a new job every week. You get quirky recurring characters (Barry, Sugar, Seymour) and tons of character actors having a blast (Matheson! Lawless! Ironside! Trejo!). You get lots of cool and ridiculous spy tips awesomely narrated by Jeffrey Donovan in a way you can't help but imitate ("When you work in intelligence..."). Lots of stuff blows up. The wardrobe department never provides Gabrielle Anwar with a bra. And the show is just so much fun and the characters so likable that Burn Notice has earned a lot of good will from me.

I agree. The trend of TV shows to buy fully into the arc storytelling is fine - it forces writers to think and pay attention to detail - but every so often you want a TV story that is just 48 minutes of escapism.

My biggest fear of Burn Notice is that season 5, he gets his job back and he's now working for Robert Vaughn.
The problem with that image/joke is that he's no longer looking for who burned him...

Yep. Had heard he was going to be recurring but that episode set it up for a one-shot only, it looks like.

And once again.. Fiona tells Michael she can't do what he's doing anymore.. and promptly gets in trouble the next episode so Michael has to save her.

Well, they really set him up as Michael down the road so it's definitely possible Michael will be looking to him for advice on occasion. "Paul" telling Michael about how eventually all you have are your stories right after admitting to memory issues should have been a really great line. Burt undersold it way too much unfortunately.

She did shoot Carla. But yeah, other than that one kill.. a lot of nothing.
I had a feeling that Richard Kind's character would have ended up dead before giving Fi the info
post #49 of 142
Alright so I finally got around to watching this episode. I actaully enjoyed it quite a bit and Burt Reynolds really should come back for another ep. However one thing I did find really fucking funny was how apparently everyone is Russia is scared of Michael killing and toturing them......................when Micheal never really hurts anyone directly. Yet they keep calling him a myth and a ghost. I can see a bunch of russian spies sitting around now, if only they knew the truth.

Guy1 "Hey man don't fuck with Westen. He will make a bunch of idle threats and then jump through a bunch of hoops and someone else may end up killing you maybe".

Guy2 "Well what if we just walk up and start shooting at him"?

Guy1 "Well he will shoot back but not at you but near you. If someone else tries to shoot you he will grab their gun and tell them this isn't the time, but it's never the time. Weird thing is he will put him and his friends in unecessary danger using nonlethal tactics just to avoid the possibility of killing you even though it seems to leave him open to all kinds of danger".

Guy2 "But wait I hear he has this trigger happy irish girlfriend."

Guy1 "Oh yeah man you have to watch out for her. Word is she ALWAYS wants to kill people.........but she doesn't. I mean once in a while she will make reference to the fact that she wants to shoot someone but Michael will put a stop to it don't worry. Also she never uses her accent even when she is with her close friends"

Guy2 "Ok thanks man I will steer clear."

But seriously it was a fun ep and you have to admit Burt Reynolds shooting the Russian spy was awesome and hilarious. I do think this show needs some kind of change to be honest. Change of location or some kind of major plot shake up such as a death, maybe Fiona's? Also Fiona either needs to support Michael or stop, the back and forth is getting old.
heh, I thought about "Westen's legend" as well, but if you examine what he's done on the show... just about everyone who crosses paths with him disappears or ends up dead. He wouldn't have had to act much differently in Russia to have gained that kind of reputation.
