Dumbshit Cop Writes Tickets During Live Newscast

So, the long and short is, KTLA is doing a live remote at the top of a Santa Monica parking deck where they're talking about what kind of car you'd drive for what situation. There is no one else on the parking deck roof. As they start the remote, a cop suddenly appears and starts going from car to car (that KTLA has put up here to talk about) and is writing tickets on each car, INCLUDING walking directly into the middle of the interview and handing them a ticket. Now they're live, so they can't exactly "cut" and start over again.

I hear that in California, they ticket the shit out of you for everything...now I guess I believe it.

Heard about this on the Adam Carolla Show. I agree with his stance on what should be done. In fact I think 80% of the so called police force in California should be fired, and the saved funds should go to the teachers who can educate the children so they aren't retards who end up as cops.

Basically what happened here is when you go into this parking lot you get a slip that is supposed to go on your dashboard, but the reporter had them all in her car. Anytime you park in one of these structures in Santa Monica you're opening yourself up to a ticket, because the pigs just see it as a big mud pit for them to wallow in. Tons of cars and there must be something wrong with them (no front license plate, tinted windows, etc.)

It's not clear if they were actually parked legally or not.
Carolla talked about this? I'll have to catch up on his podcasts. He's at his best when he's bitching about LA traffic/chicken shit tickets.

Santa Monica cops are the fucking worst, and that's saying a lot considering that LAPD absolutely sucks. Beverly Hills cops can probably be sandwiched between the two.
"Sgt. Fuckface, LAPD" at your service apparently
post #7 of 33
Yeah, I'm confused. Did the KTLA people pay for parking or not? Parking is a huge scam here, but KTLA shouldn't get breaks the rest of us don't. They suck.

They did but then didn't follow the display instructions. But they should be exempt...because...they have...cameras? Yeah, I don't know what I'm supposed to be mad about either.

Also, that. Fuck KTLA too. Fuck EVERYTHINNGNGGGGGG

EDIT: re: Sebastian's post

So, they couldn't just go into the van and show the receipts? This sounds like KTLA expecting privilege and then showing the footage on air for the sake of petty bullshit. But Santa Monica cops do suck.

Basically I'm saying everyone in this situation is a tool.

Do they need a permit to shoot on the top of the lot? I mean, to prevent other cars from going up there to park during the segment.

It would seem like they would have permission to park there without having to display the permits for purposes of the segment, though they still needed to pay for the parking.

Yeah, it was a good 30 minute rant.

Like I said, from the sound of this (though I was not there and have no proof its true) the reporter says she paid and everything is in her car. So, when each car got a slip, rather than putting it on the dash of each car (and when you're trying to showcase the car why would you?) she just put them in her car.

It also sounded like they got permission, though they picked a place that was sure to be empty. Most people don't park on the top floor in the sun if they can park on the lower levels in the shade.

The existence of their live segment doesn't alter what the cops' jobs are. It's why you get permits to shoot anything (but news, apparently). Meter maids tend to be sadistic little fuckers, but you play by the rules and don't give them a window.
If they paid and the cop was writing them tickets just because they weren't displayed properly, that is really lame.

It didn't appear that the officer really cared that the receipts were in the van. She has her parking regulations to enforce.

Is Santa Monica that money deprived or power hungry?
If you don't display the receipt, how can the cop tell whether or not they paid?

Power hungry. It's why they call it the People's Republic of Santa Monica. I'm Mid-City trash now, so I can say that.

Phil, they are right there. I'm not saying the police have to conduct an investigation, but this is clearly an abuse. All it would have taken is:

"Are these your cars? Oh, they are, You are supposed to have the receipts displayed. Can you show them to me?"

Ask? or use common sense.

Any idea which episode?

Because it's a goddamn news segment. I get what you're saying, but it's kind of assumed that they're taping legitimately. And if not, then she could have asked a PA or something. The metermaid was was just on a power trip and while cops do need to be dickish at times, a shitty news segment on top of an empty parking garage isn't one of them.

It's like the cops that give people tickets who have license plate frames that cover up some of the registration sticker despite the date being completely exposed. Y'know, because you HAVE to have the entire sticker exposed.

Only one side is following the letter of the law, though. I agree it sucks, and I think in general people should be kinder to one another, but I think it's dopey to expect a meter maid - pretty much like this in every city I've ever been - to meet you halfway, let alone ask even a single question before writing the ticket. That's not what they do, or have ever done. Maybe it's the way my city has conditioned me, but I've found the way around it is to not give them an opening in matters like that.
This is hilarious in every way.

I know recently Atlanta started a moratorium on parking enforcement in response to widespread complaints.
I saw this video about a week ago. Yes, the cop is dumb, but all in all that's really all it is. She is surprised to learn she is live on TV, it's clear she thinks she was walking through a taped segment.

Stupid cop behavior, but on a day where we learn that a thug cop framed someone for murder and that person spent 19 years behind bars, it seems like small potatoes
post #25 of 33
Man, that officer has zero situational awareness. It takes a special kind of person to be that zoned-out and oblivious to everything except for their menial task.

There's a difference about how to act to avoid a ticket and being pissed when getting a ticket for a minor infraction.

Maybe it's because I've been on the receiving end on the obstructed license plate ticket (when the cop was fishing for a DUI and was pissed that he came up empty), but I find nothing wrong about expecting more from law enforcement.

It leads to disappointment and anger!

I dunno, just don't see how a meter maid being dickish is news. Even when that shit happens ON the news! This clip is up there with news reporters getting bit by animals or shit on by birds.

Of course it's not News, but if we stopped talking about things that weren't News, what would we talk about? Jake's fashion choices? Thor's?

Just as long as you display your receipt before heading into Hot Topic.

That was really not the tone in which I wrote my post, at least it didn't sound that way in my head as I typed it. I was more just saying "I can't personally be bothered to get too worked up over this because there are bigger fish to fry"

It's a funny video though and I can understand why people would comment upon it
