Melvins - The Bride Screamed Murder

Hot Damn!

Some really solid business here, and some of the finest heavy riffs I may have ever heard. Still digesting, so I don't know where I'd place it within their catalog or this current group orientation (w/ Big Business). But it's up there.

And some of these tracks are among the finest they've written. "I'll Finish You Off" contains one of the most sublimely heavy sections I've heard in years, and "Hospital Up" is just jaw dropping. My only complaint with "Hospital Up" is that it doesn't keep barreling along. When it quiets down to that sick bassline and the vocals, I expected it to blow into another stratosphere altogether after that.

Still, really awesome new album from these old farts.

Wow, nice to see another Melvins lover here... I've made it a point to go see the current lineup with Big Business whenever they play in the vicinity, and they never disappoint. Last fall may've been one of the best rock shows I've ever seen... Buzz & Dale starting off by themselves for a half hour of WS duo-rock, then the other guys came in & tore up the place.

That said Joey, new album seems to be a grower for me.. first listenings don't grip me as much as A Senile Animal did. But I like it better than Nude... which apart from a couple of standout tracks was too much of a SA retread.

But yeah... such an underrated band, and kind of comparable to Pixies in regard of motivating other people to start a band & influencing a whole musical direction without getting proper credits. Then of course, the difference is Pixies do reunion shows on automatic pilot these days. Melvins just keep innovating their sound, and leading the pack. God bless 'em.

I STILL haven't been able to see them live. Every fucking time they play near me, the closest is like New Orleans (2 1/2 hours away) and it's on a Tuesday or Wednesday.

I'm almost literally in tears that I can't make it to see them and ISIS (on their farewell tour, no less) in Athens next week.

Also: yeah, as an album in total, it'll have to sit with me/grow a bit. But as I said before, that middle heavy section in "I'll Finish You Off" is some of the most balls out and insanely-awesome riffs I've ever heard. Ever.

Ditto that the riff/bassline that kicks in midway through "Hospital Up." As a guitarist/bassist/musician myself, I just drooled like a moron the first time through, then instantly backed it up like 20x.

Heh, I'm a bass man too bro, and a former drummer, so you can imagine the geekgasm I get everytime I see that bass-double drums setup at work.

And yeah, the advantage of living in a small country: all the concerts nationwide are within the range of a 2 hour drive. And if worst comes to worst, The Netherlands is right next door.

Here's something you'll like: 1st quality footage from the last concert (and about the best) I saw them: http://www.4x4music.eu/playlists/view/67

Is this a good place to point out that Night Goat has the greatest bass riff ever? Because it does.
