WWDC/iPhone 4 - Page 3

It's my roommate's. I'm just curious how nice the video chat runs. The phone seems pretty great to me (the hi res screen is way better than I expected, very impressive) but between it being on ATT and their new usage policies, I'm sticking with Verizon and hoping they get the iPhone some day.

... and yeah, both need to be on wifi.

I missed out. My wife never got a chance to even try anywhere today, and I didn't have the resources to. Stopped by both Apple stores on my way home from the airport around 6:30 PM, and both stores had like 75 people or so still in line, presumably all pre-orders. Crazy. I'll just have my wife try again at the AT&T store on Tuesday. If that doesn't work out, I guess I'll just order one online.

This goddamn thing is great.

Lots of reasons, actually. But I am happy for everyone who got and is loving their new iPhone. Looks snazzy.

My wife did not pre-order, so she was in the first come first serve line for 12 fucking hours. The Apple people in Indianapolis where spending up to 20 min with each customer setting their phone up for them. it was horrible, thankfully water and snack were handed out and the weather was great.

Oh I know :-P A buddy of mine has the droid and it's cool as hell. It's the phone I'll be using if I was still with Verizon. The iphone is snazzy as hell, I can't get my until January but at that point I might as well wait for the newer phone that will be out that June. I'm really curious to see how Netflix works. Thankfully my wife and I are on the old data plan..thank god. that new plan they have in place now is all stupid as hell.
My droid was wretched. Randomly deleted contacts, randomly deleted MMS messages, the PHONE app would crash...I am so glad to be done with it. Especially in light of the revelation this week that 1 in 5 android apps exposes the information stored on your phone to third parties. Fun!

As far as the data plan goes, I kept my unlimited plan but I have no problem with the 2 gig cap, particularly since it's cheaper. 2 gigs of data on a phone is a LOT. And, practically speaking, you were always capped at around 5 gigs.
I won the Best Buy lottery so I was in and out in five minutes. I went by the Apple store where I preordered and it was madness. The walk-up line was a third shorter than the reservations line and they were letting 2 walk-up people in for every 3 reservations people. I asked a guy coming out how long it took and he said 4 hours. Brutal.

I just want to get the bumper and a new case for my wife's 3G (that'll make her feel better until she can upgrade in February).
The bumper is pretty slick! I was surprised...it'll be the first iphone case I've ever purchased.

I use wireless so much I rarely crack 100 MB on my current 3G. So the 200MB for 15 bucks is awesome. For me.

This a really sweet phone. I do use quite a bit of data though using Pandora and GPS toys while in the car.
I'm still pretty happy with my Nexus One. At first I was tempted to get the iPhone 4, but I really didn't want to deal with AT&T.

Now with this antenna issue I'm hearing about, I think I can find the strength to wait another year. I'm hoping that this will teach Apple not to be so secretive with their phones; if this had been more extensively previewed someone might have noticed this sooner.

It's not his fault some star-struck Apple Store employee pulled him out of the line.

Besides, starring in a much beloved, short-lived TV show has to get you some perks in this life.

It looks like he was just more then willing to wait in line....haha but if my wife and I were offered this, you bet your ass we would have done it.

Yeah... Except that it turned out to be bullshit.

Ok, so my droid was a piece of shit that only occasionally offered total scam applications. Either way, I'm thrilled to be rid of it.

after the 4.0 update, does anyone notice how more "sensitive" the keys are when you're typing.
I was talking to a guy at a Radio Shack today, who said they didn't even get any iPhones and that they didn't pre-order, they "pre-requested" the phone. Which meant they could request 20 phones, but might just get 1 or none (as they did). He said only 2-3 Radio Shacks in the entire Atlanta area got phones.

He said it might be a blessing in disguise that I didn't get a phone on day one...that a few weeks might be long enough to see if there are any major bugs/issues, and that I could still decide to wait and see, and maybe even decided to switch to Sprint or Verizon. My wife and I were discussing it tonight, and she was hinting at the Sprint, so we could use the WiFi abilities. So we'll see.
I'm writing this on my new phone. I've had to be fairly cryptic in this thread, but I do work for apple and this phone was my gift to myself for working a goddamn 18 hour day yesterday. So far, I am totally in love. Wave goodbye verizon, you'll never see me again, at least until were all on LTE.
Yeah, posting from my phone, too. Two days in and I have no major issues. I've noticed the dropped bars thing when I touch the lower left corner.

This is my first iPhone...what are my must-have apps?
Ouch, sorry you got screwed over with the new data plan Matt. Plants vs Zombies is fun as hell.
Wife just called...SCORE! Since we just got her an iPhone a month or so ago, she called the AT&T rep back that we bought her phone from, and she kept a new one under the counter for her. She said she walked into the AT&T store, just as they told a group of 25 or so people that they were sold out, and she said they were all highly pissed. She walked over to the rep and said, "You've got mine, right?" to which she said, "Oh, I've got you covered."

Bad part? I'm still in Roanoke, so I have to wait until Friday to activate it. Plus, they changed my data plan over already, so I have no internet connectivity on my current phone anymore. Oh, and I found out that even though I had an unlimited plan with my current phone (Nokia E71x), they won't grandfather me to an unlimited plan with the iPhone. Dicks.
Even Apple support is pretty much mocking the "it's the software" excuse. While speaking to a rep about my wife's 3G, which went blank, I added and they said "well, right now we are going with 'it's a software issue.'"

My iPhone 4 with its super duper scratch resistant glass screen that I've babied and maybe put it my pocket once or twice with nothing else has about an inch long line on it that can (thankfully) only be seen from a certain angle.

That's why investing in screenprotectors saves headaches. I even cut up the static plastic in the iPhone box to cover it for the few days I had to wait for the screen protectors to arrive. It's sad though that I have to dedicate a pocket to the phone though just to make sure.
Yeah I have gotten one when I got the phone but they didn't have any at the apple store of course and none of the others I looked at had particularly good reviews. Lots of stuff about them having a weird feel or peeling off soon after putting them on. I got on for my iPad and of course it's got bubbles in it due to microscopic pieces of dust that I can't get out. My 3G I was lucky in that the only bubbles were under the case I had. So I guess I'll get one at some point. Any recommendations?

I have one of my 3GS...Works a hell of a lot better then those static shields.
I have one of those rubber covers that go around my 3GS for better grip so it doesn't slip out of my hands. I bought some screen protectors, but never used them, and gave them away, since I'm pretty careful with it, and I also have a case to put it in and clip on the end of my pocket (not my belt!)

I thought the 3GS and the iPhone 4 are supposed to have screens that are more resistant to scratches? I remember reading that in a 3G Vs. 3GS review I read before picking up my 3GS in February.
The screens are pretty damn resistant, but you'll be surprised that after awhile you'll still get that one random scratch.
Yeah, it's bizarre. If you watch the stress tests the blogs do, they'll take keys and a knife to modern glass screens and come up with nothing. I think it's just the nature of crystals, though - no matter how tough you make them, if something lucks out at hits it just right, it's going to get damaged.

is the case I use. Sadly I think I was the first to realize the camera flash is screwed up by the cover, but the simple fix also is to just take a marker to the edges of the case and all is good. It was on sale when I bought it though. It's clear enough to show off I have the new phone (and yes and serve as a target).

My last iPhone had a Color Naked case-mate case, and I'm waiting for them to put out the same case I had before. God that case was amazing. Durable as hell.

Screen protectors
I used the static cling plastic that came on the iPhone for a few days, but just made a cut out for the camera and ear piece. It actually worked really well.

I ended up getting this, and applied 2 screen protectors together and was very patient trying to get the bubbles out. I don't want to test how good they work though, just out of paranoia.

That's what they had at best buy. I was gonna get it and then I looked at the reviews and they all said it gave the screen a weird rubbery feeling and also distorted the resolution.
Power Support makes great Anti-Glare screen protectors, but I got tired of how much duller my screen looked whenever I used a screen protector of any sort.

Now, I may be in the minority, but in one of the worst areas to have AT&T, NYC, my service has been noticeably better post-iPhone 4, which is both good and bad. Areas where I used to get no reception, now get inconsistent service, which is frustrating, but places where I used to get inconsistent service are now rather solid.

Also, I've noticed faster download speeds and significantly faster upload speeds.

Well, pretty much all the screen protectors will give you that weird rubber feeling. I don't notice it, but then again I've had the cover on my phone for so long. The resolution thing is a good question, since my 3Gs does not have the display the 4 does, I can't say how it'll look.

It does give the screen a little bit of a weird feeling, although I never noticed distortion issues with mine. If you look really closely at these they look almost like they have pores, but until you're used to it then it doesn't feel that smooth. If you get it right when you get your phone, you won't notice. If you get it months in, it will be distracting for a bit.

If you do go with Zagg, do a quick Google search and find the nearest mall that has one of their kiosks. It's $5 I think (if I remember correctly) to have some bored teenager put the thing on for you, and they'll do a WAY better job of getting the dust and bubbles out than you would yourself. I did that, had no issues, had a friend buy it at Best Buy and he was cussing for a week over it.
I agree with Pathetic, get someone to put it on for you. I did it myself, I ended up doing a decent job but it's not perfectly straight.

Between Consumer Reports bashing the phone and bloomberg announcing that engineers warned about this Jobs is looking more and more like an even bigger douche than we know he is. I bet the offer a free case as a workaround (for now). But if they don't apologize for blaming the software that is utter bullshit. That may be true also but come on. It's amazing how everyone loves Apple and bashes other "big companies" when Apple is one of the worst. They get a free pass because their products are so damn good* and it is so hypocritical**.

*except iTunes, one of the worst developed software products known to mankind.

** including myself here because as soon Verizon gets the iPhone I'm dropping this Storm like the middling POS it is.
The truth is that the software DOES make the problem look worse. By concentrating all the reception bars in a smaller range, it looks like the reception is more impacted by holding it the wrong way than it really is.

Holding it does have a significant impact but still, nothing that can't be resolved by a bumper or a tiny plastic strip around the edge of the phone. I just don't see the point of freaking out about it. The phone has an antenna with issues and you can still take it back if it affects you too much.
The update "fix" for the signal issues is already up on iTunes. Even though I have a 3GS I did it, and notice the "thicker" bars.
Anyone know what site I can watch the press conference on my Incredible with its uninterrupted 3G signal while cupping it in my hands tomorrow?

Did your incredible get the Android 2.2/Flash update yet? If not, then you're probably going to have the same luck watching it as someone with an iPhone.

The Incredible has an HTC Flash Player that seems to work just fine on most videos, uploaded or streaming.
It supports Flash Lite which can work on some videos but I'd have to say that I think you're stretching to call it 'most.'

Yes, so touchy ... I don't even have an iPhone or a Mac and I could recognize that you were clearly trolling.

And Renn was joking that if you were able to WATCH it then it must have been able to be decoded by Flash (otherwise you wouldn't have been able to watch it).
