Ark II

Okay, so imagine me at the local store looking at used DVD's and coming across this old looking television show, which I have never seen or heard of before and which features a multicultural cast, some kind of really big... van limo, and A FRACKING CHIMP. For eight dollars.

Needless to say, I walked to my car knowing I had made a wise purchase.

Anyone else ever heard of this thing? I've only seen the first episode, but holy cow is it totally awesome, if only for this reason (spoilers): the chimp talks!

What. I didn't want to spoil it for anyone. Anyways, someone please tell me I'm not hallucinating this whole thing.

I "loved" ARK II as a kid. At least I think I did. Haven't seen an episode since then, although I've seen bootleg DVDs on sale for years. Seemed like the Saturday morning version of DAMNATION ALLEY...at least as far as cool sci-fi RVs were concerned. This was one of those kid shows like JASON OF STAR COMMAND and SPACE ACADEMY that I watched just to get some kind of cheapie STAR WARS fix.

JET PACKS!!! Right? I got the right show? Man, I seem to be the ONLY person I know who remembers this show. I gave up asking people of they remember the show with the chimp and the jetpacks after so many blank stares.

And Jamie & The Magic Torch. A cartoon that could have ONLY come from the acid-soaked 70's. Everyone thinks I mass-hallucinated that one, too.

Watched it every Saturday morning. They used the same vehicle as Damnation Alley did, but it was a kid-friendly post-Apocalyptic world. Maybe more "somewhat irriated Max" instead of Mad Max. Also enjoyed the Shazam/Isis Power Hour which was situated around this show at some point.

Sphere_Monk, I did watch...Ark II religiously. I also watched...Jason Of Star Command, Space Acadamy, Isis regularly as well. I do not remember anything about Ark II outside the...Awesome RV.

Did anyone watch...The Bananna Splits? I loved, Danger Island with...Jan Michael Vincent, and the cartoon The Arabian Knights.

The NZ Natural, You only have to show the...IMDB.COM page, for Jamie And The Magic torch to people. There were...39 episodes, and it aired in Italy as well! I never watched that show.

Oh, I gave up well before the internet, fleed. But a couple of years back I found the opening titles/song on Youtube and it blew me away. Seriously, what WERE they taking back then?!

The NZ Natural, It wasn't just Hollywood, I am sure that some...MARVELous stuff, was being consumed, during the sessions that produced music, from...The Marvel Superheroes. The 70's had unique clothes, hairstyles, and out there tv/film/and musical productions.

Ah...Ark II. It was actually "old" when they would show it to us at Elementary School assemblies back in the 80s, but I have very fond memories of it and always wanted a toy version of the Road Master. At least Legos helped solve that problem eventually.

The opening titles:

I love the shot of the scientists walking around with beakers and clipboards in a desperate attempt to save humanity!

So in watching those titles, my Inner Perv became reacquainted with Jean Marie Hon. I Googled her and found this:

But from that photo, I found her husband's website (who seems like a bad-ass outdoorsman, so don't fuck with him) and found these from 1981:

Looks like she could teach BSG's Grace Park a thing or two.
