I got to prepare a class about the market crash of 1929 and part of it is showing how the media of the time reacted to it. I'm mostly covered, but the one area i can't seem to be able to dig out good data is Comic Strips. The cartoons on the back of the papers? There HAS to be some sort of website that has an archive of those strips of that time.
I had a similar project 5 years ago and i remember i was able to found a bunch of them from the NYtimes. But fuck if i can remember where!

I've been at it for days. If anyone's got any links or suggestions i would really appreciate it.

Here's a Little Orphan Annie comic that might work for you - http://xroads.virginia.edu/~1930s/PR...nie/annie.html

Yeah, so my professor now is telling me that these cartoons won't work because i need the actual newspaper page or source cited... damn.

So guess that i need an archive of newspapers from that time period that i can search online?

Is that available?

Thanks again!

Your best hope is your university's library webpage.

I've needed to gather PDFs of original newspaper pages (to verify citations), and I was able to do it via links on the library website (because otherwise, I'd have to pay for the subscription myself). The one I depended on most was ProQuest. They have digitized every single NY Times issue from 1851 to 2007.

If they don't have ProQuest, then you might have to show up in person and learn how to use microfiche.
