WWE All-Stars

THQ is making a side game for WWE. From the clip I saw it looks more like the old Backyard wrestling game that stared ICP. The characters are super sized (think Incredible Hulk). You can give someone a super bomb and then grab them in mid air for more moves. It seems more like a waste of time sence the Smackdown games are just fine. Although I do like Firepro best of all

Nothing beats Fire Pro Wrestling Returns. At all. Ever.

Yeah its a bit of an odd way to go. Is this the same game as the one that is going to have all the legends in it?

Pretty much this, but one hopes THQ will make a Smackdown game that at least plays as good as No Mercy... not gonna get my hopes up though.

What NZ Natural said. FPR (as well as it's 3D cousin KOC II) absolutely demolish anything THQ has put out with a "wrestling" label on it. NO MERCY set the bar and it's pretty sad that no WWE game in the last decade has come close to it.

Even though I prefer the greatness of VIRTUAL PRO WRESTLING 2 over NM, I still like playing it once in awhile. The triple threat Ironman match I had between Jericho, Benoit and Angle at Wrestlemania was the most epic match I've ever played. None of this 20-30 minute bullshit, this sucker was 60 minutes and it was glorious.

I also have a soft spot for WCW/NWO Revenge as well. AKI 4 EVER!

It's really weird that No Mercy was universally loved by critics and fans alike, and they just completely abandoned the engine after that. To be honest, I don't think I've played a WWE game since Smackdown 2 on the PS1. The Fire Pro series is complete proof that it all comes down to playability first, everything else second. I wouldn't trade my patched-to-English FPR on PS2 for anything, let alone my copied memory cards pre-loaded with 500 or so of someone else's laboriously created CAW's.

I wish someone would have ported "The Main Event" from the arcade to a home console. My best friend and I played that game relentlessly during college. It had knock-offs of Hogan, Steamboat, Koko B. Ware, etc., and you played as a tag-team. The moves were fun, and the game itself was great. We almost won the tag team titles after pumping like $10 of quarters in the machine, but we couldn't ever win, dammit.

Ah, here it is.

They look overbulked in the normal games. Did they borrow some Titan from Batman: Arkham Asylum?

WWE All Stars is Vince McMahon's ultimate wet dream.

It's fun, but that's really all I can say. Granted somehow, I beat Cena to death with The Rock and he pinned me after a Rock Bottom. Looks to me like they still need to perfect the engine.*

* - Ok, maybe I'm just hiding the fact I did press the red button to kick out in time, but still.
