The models are the usual MK-ugly and the animation is terrible as always, but it looks fun. They never should've gone 3D (gameplay-wise).
If Scott doesn't post in here, I will consider today a failure.
The 3D formula only went sour with Armageddon and MK vs DC. Deadly Alliance and Deception were fine.

This, however, looks better.
That actually looks fun. It's been a while.
Agree the move to 3d really hurt this franchise. Good to see MK going back to its roots.
2D or not 2D, that is the...question. I say...2D MK=AWESOME! FINISH HIM!

Hey man, I'm not even going to buy this game cuz it looks horrible, so now you're the fool! HA HA! I'd rather dump another 30 posts into a Mortal Kombat proof of concept video, because I'm cool.

.
Come on, those games allowed you to jab, sidestep, jab, sidestep and dozens of other super-broken stuff like that.

I agree that if you just play for shits and giggles, they're ok.

Since Ultimate MK 3's cheap ass, that's all I've ever played these games for. Hence, they were fine.

Also, one of my favorite Fatalities ever is in Deception, involving Sub Zero and your opponent's frozen head.

Kung Lao just used his hat to saw a dude, crotch first.
Good to see Mk back, but ill wait and see on this one.
meh, fighting games died for me after the demise of the Dreamcast
post #13 of 28
Considering all the great fighting games that have come out this generation (none of which are Mortal Kombat), that sucks for you.
2D? Hardly.

Call me when they're using sprites again.
Much as I love 2D, I would think SFIV would've proven the 2.5D approach works just fine and dandy.

Do you play professionally?

The hardcore would've asked why they're not making this series anime. With a hair-metal soundtrack. And schoolgirls.

You're right.

I want all that too, but in a PRIMAL RAGE game!
Raptors and albino apes in schoolgirl outfits?

.....yeah, I'd buy that game.

I think he was referring to Mortal Kombat's always-broken fighting system. It's never worth going into practice mode and learning the game's intricate fighting system, a la Street Fighter. As a result, people keep coming back to Mortal Kombat for the ridiculous backstories and lulzy fatalities and not the fine-tuned gameplay. People wouldn't sink 60 hours into Dragon Age if chunks of the game were fundamentally broken.

In terms of professional gaming, there are still Street Fighter II torunaments. You don't really hear about Mortal Kombat tournaments.

Not exactly anime, but...
I was trying to forget that happened. Now I have visions of dragon jets in my head. Thanks, asshole.

That said, damn, that show had a better voice cast than I remember.

Looks like back to the roots fun. I'm assuming this is the game mentioned in the other article about the promo for the movie that the game may get an "Adults Only" rating?

My favorite MK game (though I never tried Deception) is still Deadly Alliance. I always felt the different fighting styles and combos were a lot of fun to learn and put together.

No high profile game will ever get an "Ao" rating. It's financial suicide. They probably mentioned that so disillusioned MK fans would be like "holy shit, that's gotta be hardcore!", and drumming up interest.

*edit- I read the article I'm sure, but don't remember if it's Midway saying that or Alex/Trevor.

I looked for a thread on Mortal Kombat 9 and this was the closest I could find. Anyone excited for this? Any thoughts on the demo? I wasn't blown away by what I saw but it was some good ol'fashioned stupid fun and honestly I was so burnt out on fighting games that I barely played my copy of Super Street Fighter IV and might actually pick this up just so I can take my wife and kids out with some fatalities.
