Woot. I was just kidding about bitching about the ending. I'm very easy to please, and I am interested to see how this plays out. I usually catch it the day after on Hulu on OnDemand anyways, but if it's Saturdays I may end up catching it live.
Fuck I just marathoned all four episodes of this thing and now I find out it's cancelled. Well I guess it's kind of silly to discuss this now but.....what the hell. I found the plot fairly interesting and motivations farily solid as well but the party girls break down bumped me a bit. I mean I was with it until she offered herself up to the "car salesman". I mean I guess I can stretch and say that she was reenacting trauma but even stranger to me was why did he turn her down. I mean days earlier he was trying to rape her.
Um well according to tvguide.com and my DVR menu there is a new episode of this airing tonight at 8:00 so I guess they aren't moving it to saturdays yet.
Not a bad episode. Couldn't stop laughing whle the Car Salesman was getting his ass kicked.
Wow, Ericka just sort of blew into townwith a passion. I like her and her escape attempt. She's in on it though. I caught that look she and Soldierboy gave Joe when he got back from messing up Tom. Now, that could have been a "where's this fucker been right before the door opened" or "what the fuck are you doing Joe" look, and for now, I'm going with she and Soldierboy know more than they are letting on. Her beating up NotCarSalesman was HI-larious. Tori is so not dead. No idea what that means though.

Everything Erika did was funny. She's a tiny and vicious bundle of rage.

And mental asylum chick (still can't remember her name!) also seems to know something is up with Joe.
Moria is her name. I remember it by thinking "minds of Moria", if that helps.

Shit, and I just realized I called Tori by her name rather than Barbie. I think I might be a little invested now.
Better episode this week, which isn't saying much. Liked the introduction of Erika a lot. I hope she keeps flipping out and beating people up for a while.
What sorta bugged me was that they didn't at least put that knockout implant in Erika (as everyone else had in the beginning). I can't tell if it intentional (they wanted everyone on the same ground) or unintentional (oops, we forgot about that).

If Joe really does have it for Janet, that's a shitty shitty shitty story. A guy training for how long, having some idea of the psychology of being kidnapped and immediately falls for Janet? That's just stupid.

The unfortunate part regarding Tori's exit is that the signs point to her being dead, but there is enough to leave it in doubt. The show could have taken a lesson from Lost and offed someone (as in bloody, no way they are still alive, death) to up the stakes.

Re mental asylum chick-- what gave it away, when she ended the episode by saying, "i have to tell you something about joe"?

ha just kidding, just felt like making the joke...

Anyway Erika bothers me a smidge, mostly the way those people were dealing with her... who cares if she runs away, why are you running after her?

The show is still far too obfuscated at this point, what 5 episodes in, and tension isnt mounting, or even moving at all... its just stagnant.... and the twists and ending cliffhangers are predictablely repetitive and boring... wow who guessed blondie would die, or joe was in on it?... everyone you say?

And im not a fan of the new dynamic between joe and the cook, and the shows vision of what the behind-the-scenes of this game/world looks like.

that being said, im still watching and will tili see the resolution probably

Are we sure about that? I must have missed that detail. I just figured They let her run into the electric fence.

Well, and it's also stupid how They just seem to put up with it. Since They watch everything, they would know that Loner Joe is "going rogue". Seems to me They'd send him on a taxi ride and bring in another mole to replace him. And will somebody please give Joe a razor?

Unless you're talking about a scene that was in the preview for next episode, I completely missed her saying that. Guess I wasn't paying attention. I was actually talking about the suspicious look Moira gave when she saw him use the elevator.

One thing I did kind of like in the episode- when They were talking to Tori's dad and hinted that what happened to Tori could be the least of his problems. Whoever They are, they're powerful fuckers.
Not a whole lot to talk about this week. The real world stuff kinda bored me, and will continue to I suppose, unless it leads to Tori coming back. I almost fell in a bit of love with Erika, and then she kinda creeped me out. I'm so torn.
So you find out a guy you know is behind the weirdest kidnapping ever and all you do is get offended, slap him, and storm off? No "WHAT IS THIS PLACE?" or "WHY WERE WE KIDNAPPED?" or "GET ME OUT OF HERE I HAVE TO SEE MY DAUGHTER!"

Guess that's being saved for next week.

Tom got a nice sendoff! Show still has many flaws, but overall not a bad little episode.

With all the hints from the insider characters (I forget the exact line, but especially that one from Tom about Joe needing to remember that he's doing this for a good, noble reason or whatever)- can we now safely conclude that it's some kind of "training" deal?
I was thinking brainwashing of some kind, then put them in powerful positions like with the Ambassador. But then, I guess he is not brainwashed anymore, or his love for his daughter broke it or something? I'm not sure.

Tom's send off was brutal and surprising. None of the people got to question or torture him for info. Poor Erika.

or not ... i loved that this week began with no one questioning him, and them just chilling in the lobby waiting for him to come down... YEAH RIGHT... this show officially sucks, mcquarrie doesnt know how to write tv, they squandered everything from last week and almost instantly, for no good reason....

And i guess i was the only one who knew when he went in the bathroom he wasnt coming out? The interior cam angle for some reason made me think, someones gonna grab him!

And toms not gone, he'll be back, hes her love interest.

I think you mean Joe, not Tom. It took me a while to learn their names, but Joe is the white guy and potential love interest in that whole Joe/Janet/Ericka triangle thing. Tom is the one who got a faceful of General Tso's Scalding Hot Death.

Joe doesn't seem brainwashed though, and he is apparently already with "Them". Tom tries to remind him of the bigger picture (whatever that is), and Joe reluctantly agrees, but he seems to be making his own decisions.

Also, I love the idea of this group taking regular joes and putting them in these powerful positions. What did Tori's dad say he was before, like a shoe salesman?
damn it I have completly lost track of the show since it moved to Saturdays.

Oh hey, maybe I am on to something. If Joe fell in love with Janet, maybe that's what weakens the brainwashing? Ambassador's love for Tori, etc? LOVE CONQUERS ALL!!

Yeah, what did he say he was? Whatever it was, it was totally mundane.
Am I the only one still watching? I guess I can tough it out to the finish line, but this show can be seriously stupid. Angela Barragan kinda reminded me of an older Moria.
I'm still watching. I can't give up on mystery shows until they're over. It's a serious disease. (see: Vanished, Harper's Island, Happy Town).

I have no idea what the hell just happened in that episode.
Joe falling for Janet being the crux is so fucking dumb in terms of the story (it wouldn't make sense for a guy like Joe to immediately change direction) and the fact they really never pulled off the Joe-Janet chemistry.

The mystery is nice, but the character development has been garbage.

We quit watching it. My wife is usually a good sport about sticking with these shows to the end, but the last one we watched (Poisoned Joe; Interrupted Italian Funeral) was so goddamned retarded that we erased and deprogrammed it from the DVR.

Yep, still watching! I'm another one of these guys who always commits to whatever third rate horror/mystery shows the networks throw at us (ditto Harper's Island, ditto Happy Town), comes to regrets the decision by week three or four, but KEEPS WATCHING ANYWAY like a complete chump. It's a little easier with Persons Unknown than some of the other shows though, because the mystery is still somewhat interesting, and not all of the acting is terrible. The guy who plays Joe for example could probably make a solid lead with a good script (most interesting thing about last episode was I finally realized something about the actor that was bugging me since episode 1- he's a dead ringer for Christian Bale. Seriously). Also gotta love Erika, any scene is better with her hovering around being all tiny and menacing.

PS. I love that they didn't stop at just mentioning that the crazy lady likes to throw her shit at people, they went further by showing them reacting to the horrid smell... then in case that wasn't enough to send the message home, they put huge brown lumpy shitstains on the wall
post #77 of 116
Oh I guess we did learn another thing last night. If Janet had shot Joe because of the fortune cookie, "they" would not have set her free. I am assuming that it was the fortune cookie setup that got Joe to shoot his guy.

Maybe, but more than that, i saw it as the reason he fell for her.

that was the one good part of the last several episodes, imo

Fuck I just watched this followed by Haven tonight on the DVR.......im in real pain.

One thing the episode seems to confirm is that there is some kind of supernatural element, with the weird limbo space that Tom and Joe have their conversation in... I guess this ties to them being unable to escape even when they try to drive away in a straight line.

God, how retarded. I mean I get that the show kinda sucks a lot, and the ratings suck, and they want to burn it off ASAP, but what fucking sense does it make to skip an episode completely? What percentage of the audience will see that? Or even have any fucking clue they're missing an episode? A very small one, that's for sure. Why not just burn off 2 next week and 2 after that?

Idiotic

Ah thanks. I don't love the show or anything, so I'm not pissed about it getting kicked around like this, but I do want some closure on the Big Mystery.

Episode 11 is on Hulu right now, and NCBs site. I could not find 10. Oh well.

I just checked, there's supposed to be a new episode on tonight (ep 10?) so anyone on Pacific time can still catch it or like me, set the timer.
It's kind of a surreal experience, half-paying attention to this show while it's on in the background at work. I started tuning in at the Joe Gets Poisoned episode. I initially found it intriguing because I had never heard of it, and it was a network show that I couldn't figure out what it was about or what was going on within 5 minutes, which is a rarity.

Now I know what the show is about: it's about this group of people that like to hang out together at a chinese restaurant and a hotel. Some of them are servicable character actors, some of them are non-entities. There is also this guy Joe. First he needed a shave really bad, since he was giving me uncomfortable flashbacks to the time I paid 10 dollars to see Terminator:Salvation. Then he got bald, and just looks kinda weird instead.

This dynamic group of people like to spend most of their time arguing about whether or not they like Joe. Sometimes the chick that looks like Liv Tyler likes Joe, but in this latest episode, she doesn't. The girl from Battlestar Galactica never likes Joe.

I can't quite decide if the show is as bad as Heroes, or only 95% as bad as Heroes. I'll be sure to tune in and mostly pay attention during the finale next week. I'll be pissed if after the skipped episode all the characters have different opinions about Joe, though!

To y'all: Should I even bother watching the pilot sometime to see what all this retarded shit was even supposed to be about?

Fuck it said on my Comcast that football..........ehh anyway if you have On Demand they have it on there. Also I don't exactly support torrenting but I really hate watching the 11th episode on my computer and I don't have a lap top to just plug into it.
Watched both eps this evening (ep 10 on demand and ep 11 online with the laptop wire thingy) took me a couple minutes to realize there was more than one town.

I guess the people in the other town were there for a year before something happened to get them all "red carded". I wonder if that'll get explained (or if it did and I missed it).

Everything else is ridiculously bad. Maybe it's the writing that forces the actress playing Janet have to be literally the most alluring woman in world. And that is the biggest of all the character problems. The focus of the show on a character who is a plain mom with a dead-beat husband, who is being played by her PI somehow and unwittingly destroy this worldwide conspiracy.

I'm not sure any actress could pull that role off.
Well cool I figured out a way to watch it on my tv. I can't call this show great but I am compelled to watch it. I mean it's certainly no Heroes.

The "free will"/kissing scene was the stupidest thing this show has ever done. Yet another empty, half-assed Lost rip.

Well, I've made it this far, and even though it'll probably make me feel a little dead inside, I am going to finish off this stupid, stupid (but so close to being intriguing) show.

That's really the best way to describe the show (maybe the last two hours will make me change my mind? ahhhh, I doubt it)

One thing I did like though was the evil/bitter smile on eyepatched Hotel Manager #1 when the woman said she was going to red card them.

Yeah, stupid but intriguing. But then, it's a mystery, it should be intriguing.

I swear to Lucifer, I will fire bomb NBC if this turns out to be purgatory

I wouldn't rule out purgatory. This show is too much like Lost's slightly retarded little bro, they're gonna try to "surprise" us at the last minute, just watch.

Joe's comment that they have all the time in the world worried me. And, y'know, people coming back from "the dead".

Okay...well...at least it's over. I guess they were banking on having another season.
