I love this movie. I love everything about it from George Kennedy's performance to the egg eating scene. The one thing I noticed while rewatching it is how episodic the first half of the film is. Luke doesn't seem to have any objective until halfway through the film when his mother dies and then the escape attempts begin. But it doesn't ever feel like the the film is meandering before that.

I was very excited to see the American Reunion movie. I saw American Pie just after college and remembered it was quite funny. Jim, Michelle, Oz, Heather, Stifler reunite for their high school...

Easily one of my favorite movies of all time. I wasn't alive at the time, so I can't say for certain, but it seems like this would be one of the roles that helped Newman make the jump from the 50's to the late 60's, and remain a leading man in spite of the huge upheaval of American society. I would imagine alot of leading men in the 1950's were not able to make the jump, and watched their careers fade away.

The Hustler (1961)
Sweet Bird of Youth (1962)
Hud (1963)
The Prize (1963)
Harper (1966)
Torn Curtain (1966)
Hombre (1967)
Newman was never not at the top of his game. His 60s work was simple some of the best of any actor.

I was talking about this specific role and the character Luke, and his anti-establishment, rebellious attitude. How that would appeal to a whole new generation of kids who came of age in the 60's and may have been looking for something new.
