Amanda Bynes Announces Retirement, World Shrugs.

Twitter drama!

I think she's really cute, and could make a great romantic comedy star if given a chance, but this is pretty hard to get very worked up over.

I like her. She can be very funny.
She was good in Hairspray, but seriously, this is no big loss.
I think she did this hoping that someone would care, that an uprising would begin begging her not to retire.

Yeah, won't happen.
Seems like a solid move, one you don't see enough in Hollywood. Most kid actors hang on to an unhealthy degree. Good for her.
That said, I thought she seemed primed to make the transition to more adult roles - no, not 'adult' roles - quite nicely. She's got a bit of an Aniston-ish quality.
Her Twitter account is ridiculous. My friends and I were reading some of her tweets tonight. It's just...wow.
I like this announcement on her twitter. Just for our information.

"I like black men I'm very attracted to them just fyi"

I am still ashamed to say that I didn't even know that Gene Hackman had retired in 2004until last year.

I'd like to attribute that to the fact that he has such an impressive body of work and that since one film or another of his is being shown frequently but still, this is something I should have known much sooner than I did.
What does Gene Hackman have to do with this? We're not talking about people with impressive bodies of work here-- just people with impressive bodies.
We need more untalented hack actors/actresses doing this it would lead to more outsourcing of foreign talent.
A single tear, but only for this.

I was wondering how long it would take for these pictures to come up.

That being said, she said that she's done acting. But I wouldn't expect her to go away. I'm sure that there will be some other new thing to promote in three years or so that will give her another excuse to lay around in her underwear for Maxim.
Yeah, she'll be back. As a child of the 90s (yet again, I KNOW), All-That and The Amanda Show were on at my house quite a bit. She seemed to get less talented as she got older. Not too sure why.
Its called having no acting method and being unchallenged.
True. Plus, I was a kid when I found her shows funny. I grew up and got a sense of this little thing that I like to call "taste".
Damn, does that mean no sequel to this?;

Probably the least convincing boy since Pinocchio.

We're talking about retirements.

I guess I could mention the contrast between making an announcement and being so quiet about it that (some) people didn't notice.

Wish he'd gone out on a better note than "Welcome to Mooseport" though.

Well, I thought she only announced her retirement for acting ...

I'll echo that she was actually quite funny in Hairspray.
She was legitimately good in Hairspray, not just "good for a former child actor" good.
I think she has good comedic chops (like a younger Sarah Chalke) and had potential to go big. I'll miss her.

And yeah, she's super cute.
I consider every nubile young girl who manages to leave the spotlight without me having seen her naked a loss. And for that I regret her decision.

Give her a few more years of obscurity, and maybe she'll come around. Never give up hope.

The big question is which comes first: spread in Playboy or SyFy Channel Original Movie? And which is more degrading?

So what is she going to do now? Going back to college? Or pack groceries at the local VONS supermarket?

Not to mention the difference between someone in their early 20's retiring and someone in their 70's retiring.........

Maybe she saw what happened with Gary Colemen and decided "I don't want to end up like that"...

What's that? Short, black, and possibly murdered by an ex-wife?

I think she got away clean from that fate.

I thought you had to be somewhat relevant in order to retire.

Okay that was mean. But still, it would mean so much more. It would be like say, Orlando Bloom saying he was retiring. What was the last movie he was in?

There is no expiration date on the relevance of awesomeness... or attractiveness.

She still has that baby face so I guess I don't see the attraction.

You'd hit it and we all know it.

Ahhhh, okay.

If you were a man, you would. You're gonna have to trust me on this one.

Here's an interesting article going over the background and details of this event. Clearly there's more going on than someone just looking to make a change in their life....

So her agent and parents are having trouble keeping her on the rails because she is slipping out of control. And her "out of control" behavior is contemplating shrooming and dating a black guy? Granted I only skimmed the article (because it got real boring real fast) but am I missing some key detail?

P.S. - I don't care if she retires as long as she continues to scamper around town in tiny skirts and super high heels and the pictures end up on the internet.
She might date a black guy? Oh the horror.

Off to the convent with her.
Apparently we have a serious reading comprehension problem going on here.

So, I take it all the babies you've encountered have been Down syndrome patients with unrelated glandular disorders?

Really Ironic considering what one of the main plotlines and themes of "Hairspray" was.

Reading comprehension is your friend.

As somone who remembers her first episode - her first skit - as a new cast member on ALL THAT, let's just say this news comes not a moment too soon. I've always found her to be an irritating screen presence and I consider her AT casting to be one of the definitive moments when the Nickelodeon I remember from childhood began it's long slow decline * ( she was one of the first major cast additions to the show). With that said though, I wish her luck going forward

* to be fair to Amanda, the cancellations of CLARISSA EXPLAINS IT ALL, WILD AND CRAZY KIDS, LEGENDS OF THE HIDDEN TEMPLE amd PETE AND PETE also played a role

I love that article's list of stars who've announced retirement and then done the opposite: Jay-Z, Eminem, 50 Cent and Jane Fonda.

One of these is not like the other...
Hopefully this will lead to noodz for her. Get Hef on the line!!
All the hot twenty-something roles in Hollywood are played by the likes of Sarah Jessica Parker and Jennifer Aniston. A hot twenty-something actress like Amanda doesn't have a chance.
