Wait, I can get the worries about malicious use by crazy chicks, but accidental misuse? Why in the fuck would a girl be wearing this on a date with you if she weren't violently psychotic?

Maybe she's dated Jake before?

It looks like kind of a bulky device, though. Besides, the guy should at least be initiating foreplay before cramming his dick in there like a battering ram.

I have a feeling this is more for other parts of the world (like South Africa) than America (though we're still in the top 10 rape per capita and number one in total acts!) If it's use becomes widespread in certain problem areas, enough dicks get mutilated, the number of people willing to rape lowers.

Depends. I doubt it was designed to be uncomfortable for women to wear, otherwise women won't want the thing. If it fits like a tampon, which women cannot feel at all if inserted correctly, it's possible that someone could forget that it's in there.

This just confuses me. How do you forget that you've placed what is basically the love child of a ball of barbed wire and a Chinese finger trap in one of your bodily orifices? HOW?!?

Re: retaliation -

The attacker will have rows and rows of tiny barbs sinking into the delicate flesh of his erection. The more he struggles, the deeper they'll get. I'd say the dawning horror alone, to say nothing of what I am sure is incredible pain, will give the woman who uses this device a thirty-second head start, at least.

I guess it really depends how violently painful/crippling it would be for the male...

Which is great if it's a lone attack. If it's a gang rape...

My question is should I be seriously concerned about my gender that some men have the immediate response of "What is some ex uses it to get revenge?" Holy fuck, people, it's not all about you! Let's assume most women are normal enough to use it in the way intended.

I only said what its an obvious realization upon such a device (or another similar to it) being available to the public, regardless of gender.

Sorry, wasn't referring to you. It was more a bunch of posts I've seen elsewhere.

Tis ok, i mean, i did provide such an example eventually...but come on, look at thing, its a solely male version of the "spider reaction".
That said, yeah, a lot of guys only see that side of the issue.
I have some doubts about the claims that it can only be removed by a doctor. Couldn't a guy just wait to go limp and remove it? And even if that's not possible it looks like a pair of safety scissors would do the trick.

That should be plenty of time to get away from the kind of person who would rape someone (who's enraged at having his dick being sucked by a plastic piranha)!

Thank you for bothering to see the other side.

I think this is a very good point and why this may actually achieve the lessening of rape in the long run. The variables and things that can go wrong many of you are mentioning will certainly happen - at first. After a time tho, when Barry Rapeys cousin Gary Rapey had his dick mutilated and then went to jail after seeking medical attention, and then his best mate Rob McRapist had his dick shredded then went to jail after seeking medical attention and then his old school chum Daryl O'Rape ended up getting his dick amputated because he was too scared to seek medical attention after having his cock grated and ended up getting septicaemia and dying as a consequence - well, ole Barry's gonna think twice before heading out on a Friday night to get his game on.
Is that how it works? Just, "It's Friday. I'm-a rape a bitch!"

Man, I've been thinking about this all wrong.

Maybe, but if corporal punishment has taught us anything, it is that it is only a short term solution. Spanking kids doesn't teach them that what they've done is wrong. It teaches them to fear their parents and/or that what they are doing will mean pain IF they get caught. I fear, without addressing the larger issue of why men think its okay to rape people, the problem will continue to exist. This product does nothing for the woman who is actually wearing it (as mentioned before, she has to get raped for the product to work) and it sets up a context where the burden of responsibility is on the woman, rather than the man. I can definitely see a scenario where a woman who goes to the police because she was raped gets victimized again when they berate her for not wearing the condom of doom. This is a poor "solution" at best, and it reinforces horrible gender norms at the same time. I really can't view this as a good product.

Psychology isn't my field but isn't the sex act itself only part of the reason rape occurs? I can easily see someone who's enough of a psychopathic piece of shit to rape a woman going much further in order to get his 'pleasure' once his dick has been mutilated, too. This would inspire levels of misogyny even virginal internet macho men would be uncomfortable with.

This might be true if the product actually hurt your dick in any sort of semi permanent way. But it doesn't. It even says in the article it doesn't even really break the skin.

I'd just like to state that not all of us think it's okay to rape people. This thread is starting to read like it's ingrained into everyone who has a dick.

The device is pretty neat. Misuse/accidents aside, if it can be used comfortably and effectively I'm not sure what the issue is. Aside from the awkwardness of hooking up with a one-night stand and having to pause pre-foreplay while she removes her vaginal piranha, obviously.

Exactly. It does nothing to change the psychological culture of rape, and does very little to prevent actual rape.

That. Everyone jokes about me raping (I really, seriously, honestly wish they wouldn't), but I don't rape.

Man, now I feel really shitty about any rape-related cracks I may have made at your expense in the past. Never again!

It's just that I was born with this face.

Div I hate to get all negative nancy on ya, but I think there's about as much chance of changing the psychology behind rape as there is the psychology behind murder.
The only difference this will make is that more women will get beaten/killed instead of raped. If the device is successful, it just means that men will start checking for it before hand (er, before dick).

Of course you can. Rape is significantly more prevalent in South Africa than in America, which means it is context based. There needs to be a concerted effort to educate young men before they become adult rapists. South Africans need to know that rape is not only bad, but will not be tolerated. And they need to learn this early on.

Honestly Diva, I agree with this, there needs to be education and a change in attitudes, but in a country where one in four men admit to having raped a woman or a child and a female growing up has a greater chance of being raped than of learning how to read, I think that needs to go hand in hand with some sort of preventative measure, because the sort of cultural change that education would imbue is going to take a long time - maybe generations - to have a major effect.

Something needs to be done now that goes hand in hand with the attitude change you're (correctly I might add) advocating.
