The Princess Kate thread - Page 17

But I'm sure, as is often the case, I'm expressing my thoughts poorly and will just get dismissed or ignored and then later someone awesome like Jake or Phil will come in and say what I'm trying to in far less words and far more clarity and I'll be kicking myself.

Oh balls, I see now I was doing it wrong.

What I meant to say was SHE'S DIFFERENT!!!

GET HER!!!
I'm not cracking on her. I'm pro Kate, always have been. If there was a Chud prom (and there fucking should be), I would totally ask her.
But you'd probably have to battle Jake in Thunderdome for her. And that motherfucker is RIPPED.

I fight dirty...just like I fuck.

For fuck's sake, can someone please lock this shit stain of a thread?
I think Jake's post would've been the best to end on though

If we are going all Berlusconi I should said give veto to Jake and give him the chance to end the thread properly.
And If he wants to do a Berlusconi bunga-bunga he is the proper one too.
If you lock this thread you will just have to make another one. Leave it open. I love reading this shit.

And the pissing in the eyes bit?

I'm in a pissy mood and haven't slept for 48 hours.

I laughed out loud.
Kate's right... it shouldn't make a difference at all. A pretty face could never make up for many of her posts.
She's book smart but dumb.

That's why that post I quoted so perfectly encapsulates her. She's more than willing to disregard the point of a thread to go on long diatribes about her pet interests, but what she says happens to be well reasoned and occasionally very interesting. This is why she both infuriates other people and has defenders. This whole thread could be avoided if she A) was stupid and wrong-headed enough to ban on grounds of being a troll or B) was socially self-aware enough to understand why the way she posts annoys the fucking shit out of people, and adjust it accordingly. But she exists in a sublimely terrible place in the middle and how you react to that place reveals a lot about how you view and use these message boards. I'm not attacking her, or building a case against her. I'm archiving her, and that sublime and terrible place she inhabits.
In that case I agree with you.

... this thread is unfair. Either I respond to the criticisms of my post in the THE YEAR IN MOMENTS 2010 thread and derail it in the process, or I bump a thread that recently has been home to some quite tasteless viciousness and bizarrely aggressive antipathy. Either I let criticisms that I can answer go unanswered.. or it appears that I'm merely stirring the pot. It's a Catch 22, and I don't appreciate the position this thread puts me in

I don't like to think of CHUD as a place that needs a thread directed towards singling out any one individual for ridicule. There are rules. If I break them or have broken them, the mods can deal with it. For adults trying to engage in civil discourse, I am not sure what more is needed beyond that (or in a worst case scenario, an application of the ignore function)

For the record:

1) For me AGORA is a 2010 movie. It's release in late 2009 was extremely limited, and for 99% of Chewers their first chance to see it would have been it's 2010 DVD release. I watch movies when they come out on DVD for the most part, and so for me AGORA very much makes up a large part of my 2010 cinema landscape

2) I wrote a few short paragraphs about my selection because it required explanation. If you say "the hallway fight in INCEPTION", everyone knows what you are talking about. If I say "The scroll toss camera flip from AGORA", people won't know really have a clue what it is I am referring to, and indeed might assume I am just indulging my 'pet interests'

To my knowledge there was no official format the responses to the request for 2010 moments were supposed to take. Other people had bullet points, I had one specific moment I wanted to mention. That's no crime against the thread as far as I know and I don't agree that it would give any person in their right mind cause to be 'infuriated'

Oh, and one last point, no one has to worry about my feelings with regards to some of these recent posts, I think certain remarks speak for themselves and say far about the people who made them than they do about me

PS: I continue to advocate for the closure of this thread. I think it puts a spotlight on me that really is not necessary and may in actuality be counterproductive
post #814 of 833
I would agree with closing this thread if Kate agreed to use punctuation properly.
And with that reply, Princess Kate wins this thread. Seriously. Sure, she's kinda peculiar and I sometimes can't believe the crazy shit she posts, but at least she's way better behaved than a lot of people in this thread.

Sheesh. How do you people function out in the real world?
Why do I keep on seeing periods?

And, for the record, I find Kate as annoying as anyone else, especially the fact that there's hardly a goddamn thread on these boards that I can look through without seeing one of her comments. I think that we would all have a lot less of a problem with her if she just posted less often. We all seem to be fine with Duke Fleed (now), but he posts A LOT less than Kate does, and thus, his certain brand of idiocy can stay firmly on the "entertaining" side of the line, and not the "annoying".

That being said (and it should be obvious that I'm no Kate-defender), some of the comments in here, while hilarious and designed to hurt Kate, take it a bit too far. Yeah, I know she's a shitty person, and yes, I wish she would post a whole hell lot less than she does, but come on... we're dealing with someone who's obviously got issues.

We should be able to talk about the annoying shit that she does (while acknowledging some of the brilliant, off the wall, amazing things she comes up with) here; but at the same time, we need to recognize that, whoever she is, there's a person on the other end of the computer.

This is a pretty good example of Kate, I think; she's taking the rules she has made up for herself and applying them to the world at large - all while failing to see how others find this annoying.

It's just bizarre and entertaining and kind of sad.

Well one reason that I think some of the comments have gotten out of hand is because there are a bunch of people who truly believe that Kate is fake. An act.

EDIT: I'm not defending those people or the comments, mind you. Just saying that for some people there is no line to be crossed or real feelings to be hurt, because to them this person isn't real.

To those who keep encouraging others to put PK on their ignore lists, I believe it is pretty plain that the last thing her detractors wish to do is ignore her. I'm over thirty years old, and I've finally learned that ignoring people whom I dislike really lowers my daily tension. Applying this stress management strategy online is literally a button click away, and I believe every person here is mature enough to realize this.

I have a theory regarding PK's place here, and it deals with themes common to many communities. I wasn't sure this forum housed a real community, until I saw a thread where a long time member lost his house and many people here reached out to help him, so this idea hadn't occurred to me until recently. It is my opinion that PK's role as the black sheep is actually pretty important here. I'm not a sociologist, so I don't know why someone always ends up playing the part of Foucault's holy outcast, but it's obviously a role that the Princess has not asked to play, and a role that someone else would have to fill if PK stopped frequenting the site.

The conclusion is, some of the people here will never ignore PK, because they enjoy having her around to cast stones at. Those who don't feel this need will merely ignore her, and those who like PK will continue to engage her.

So, my unasked for, soon-to-be-ignored, and probably stupid advice is for supporters to ignore the detractors, detractors keep slinging mud, and PK to ignore the whole mess.

To Princess Kate: you've said some stuff I disagree with, some that I have found offensive, and some that I've found insightful, but it is against my personal morality to post libelous comments about your lifestyle, physical appearance, or mental state without even having met you face to face. With that said, I hope my post has convinced you that you are never going to be able to "defend" yourself against people who have already fixed your place in this community as an outcast. I hope you can resist the temptation to engage in this futile exercise by completely ignoring the existence of this thread and the latest complaints against you, and just do your best to be a productive member of the forums. Easier said than done, I guess.

I get you Patrick, and you're one of the more gentle Kate-ophiles, but Kate's right that this thread is unfair. The place she inhabits wouldn't be terrible if there weren't these crybabies that she rubs up the wrong way who don't possess the emotional horsepower to ignore her. They may not be fools, but I pity them. I pity their weakness. I pity it like the wind.

Like you say, the way she posts doesn't annoy everybody. Dudes like me and Jake and Cornelius and Dan who are suave and debonair and secure in our masculinity and mental grandeur either don't read her stuff or are entertained by it. It's no threat, so it doesn't engage our negative sensibilities. It's either water of a suave duck's back or grist to our debonair mills.

Thing is, it's just not very manly to let someone on the internet bug you. And it's even less manly to not be smart enough to put her/him/it on ignore. And it's less manly still to bitch about her in this thread. It's bitchy. Which is the opposite of manly.

And to be clear, in case this many hurt a feeling or two, ultimately I say all this out of love. Because, like Jesus and Superman love humanity, I love the Chudmunity (tm).

That's exactly what it is. There are more than a handful of people on this board who are FAR more annoying, worse posters and more deserving of the community-as-a-whole's derision than Princess Kate. But somehow she got stuck up on this pedestal. It fucking sucks, really. Especially for her. She's said more than her share of dumb shit but so the fuck have we all.

The last part of that last sentence may have even upped my total.

I'm in a bit of a quandary here. If I comment on how utterly re-frogging-diculous the fact that this thread is now 17 pages long is...I'm just adding to the insanity.

Clearly, based on the interest here, both the New CHUD and the New CHUD but NOT CHUD sites are going to need Princess Kate sections.

And close this sonofabitch already.

In case this thread is some how decided to be locked can a mod, if PK wishes, remove 2009 from her blog thread title? I don't read that thread but the incredible shortsightedness of that title irks the living shit out of me in context with her peculiarities every single time it pops up in the New Posts list.

I'd support a mod changing it to reflect the current year, I'd just not want to drop the date all together. That's alot to ask a mod though, and I feel like by rights I should just have to keep my short sighted title. It kind of amuses me, and within the blog itself I change the acronym to reflect the year (PKUBP2KX for instance)
