Urban Outfitters "ironically" celebrates old-school NY

This is offensive.

Urban Outfitters and stores of its ilk are responsible for running mom-and-pop stores out of business. Paying "tribute" to them by aping their look is completely asinine. It's mind-boggling really.

It's like camouflage. I'd walk right past without noticing. They should hang some cell phone accessories and bedazzled NYPD ballcaps out front to complete the charade.

I wonder how many people walk by and go, "I miss when the stores used to look like that!", then go in and buy stuff.

Speaking more toward the general point of gentrification, one of the greatest of the Minneapolis bars, The Uptown, frequent hangout of local music luminaries such as The Replacements (the bassist's mom still tended up to the end), closed down last year. I walked by the location today, and there's an Apple Store in its place.

The irony that I was using my iPod to find the Sprint store as I was passing by it made me want to chuck the thing into the street.
