Looks better without the shading. Maybe it's some reference I don't know or recognize by why the hell would you get a hairdryer tattooed on your arm?

Yeah, the face looks a little odd in the shading pic but I had just stepped out of the chair so the irritation is most likely a factor.

My mother, who passed away ten years ago this year, was a hairdresser.

This hairdryer was/is an extremely popular model for stylists.  It is an "iconic" hairdryer in my mind because my mother had one and at every station in the shop she worked in there was one.  A little more difficult to see is the pair of scissors with filligree engraving.

You had a sexy pin-up like model tattooed on your arm...in memory of your mother?

Yes.  Problem?  The pin-up came first, the idea to make her a hairdresser second.  My mother would have loved it.

Should I have been in lockstep with everyone else and just gotten a heart that said "mom" in a banner?  Or maybe I should have just done a traditional portrait with a name or birth/death date banner?  Taking a traditional idea that most people have, a pin-up, and adding a twist to it that makes it uniquely mine was the impetus.

Read what you want into it, nothing in your head is present in the idea for this.

I like it.  I think it's an excellent homage.  Plus if it means something to you, who cares what anyone else thinks?

I'm this close to getting a Judge Dredd style eagle wrapped around my right shoulder once I get in shape. Which should be by summer. It's the one tatoo out of everything I ever wanted that I never see myself getting tired of. I just don't know if I should get it colored or just shaded. Would an orange/gold type color look good on a white guy that doesn't do tanning, at all? I tend to think it would not look that good. And since the tattoo would get pretty big they way I'm picturing it, uncolored would be quite cheaper, too.

[gasp] A JD shoulder eagle would be so badass! Too bad my right shoulder is already covered or I would totally get that myself.  With regard to coloring, it really depends on your skin tone but I'd go with just stark black maybe with a thin gold inline. Coloring can look really lame & cheesy with pop culture tats. Ya gotta be careful.

Fuck yeah it would! Just picturing it on me makes me smile like a crazy person.

Like this, stel?

Or something like these?

Definitely bigger. I picture it starting from the middle of my pec and going all the way around to the back and from the top of my shoulder to the middle of the bicep.

And as for style, probably something like this:

That would look pretty sweet wrapped that far.  Go for depth and shading obviously and not the solid print like the pic you posted and see how it sits with you.  You can always go back to color it.

Yeah, I'm not going to go exactly like the picture. I meant the art style mostly. High contrast and geometric. I want it to pop.

So... no tats here yet, but I have a question:
How much of a pain in the ass is the healing process if you get a tat in a place where a lot of hair grows? Thinking of getting one on the side on my head above and slightly behind my ear. I shave my head all the time, just didn't know if the stubble would be a pain for healing, or if it could later end up being a pain for shaving if it ends up being slightly elevated above the rest on the skin on my head.

Not particularly hairy but they do itch like a bastard when they are healing.  I imagine dealing with stubble on top of that would be a bit of a cock.

My tats, which I'm appalled to realise are nearly twenty years old.  Fucks sake.

Left arm,  loosely inspired by The Stone Roses Fools Gold single cover.

Right arm.  Charles Rennie Macintosh Rose.  Something Celtic but not Celtic.

I'm going to get another one done on my right forearm when I get my NZ Citizenship.  I'm still deciding what it will be.  Needs to celebrate both my cultures (Brit and Kiwi), and also my family (which is the whole reason I moved to NZ).
