FUTURAMA Season 6!

Thread Starter
That was awesome.

22 minutes does wonders for the pacing. Obvious in hindsight if you were nervous about it being like the original run after the DVDs. Which I was, even though I sorta like the DVDs. Anyways...

Rebirth was good and trippy. I love that there is a robot Leela and Fry out there now. And the second one was a very funny riff of Star Trek: The Motion Picture.

That's the Futurama I remember. The first episode felt just like an early season 1, and the second episode was fantastic.

I really hope this does well on Comedy Central, but knowing there's at least 13 more episodes is great.

"Kif, fire all weapons and open a hailing frequency for my victorious yodel."
Really? Maybe I prematurely soured myself to it, writing it off as another case of Family Guy syndrome, but...no. It was cute, but it didn't FEEL like Futurama.
Felt like Futurama to me. I was actually kinda dreading this, but it's great to have the show back in this format. It really almost felt like it never went off the air.
Felt like Futurama to me too. It was even based on two different movies (Bender: Crank :: Fry & Leela : Moon). I liked it a lot. Too bad the DVR cut off right after Bender exploded.
"Suitable for all audiences!"

That moment just screamed Futurama right there.
Hm...well maybe I wrote it off wholesale prematurely and never gave it a real chance tonight.

Your opinion is bad and you should feel bad.
"I just don't understand why...why I should care."

"I'm actually kind of proud of this one."

God, they were on fire tonight. The first episodes premise was actually pretty interesting, even managed to sneak a very quick "Lars and the Real Girl" reference.
I wonder what effect, if any, the reception to the DVD movies had on the way they approached bringing this show back. I actually don't know what the general concensus on those 4 movies were (other than that of fellow Chewers), but I'd like to think that the reaction disciplined them to keep themselves better in check this time out.
The movies were so fucking bad. I was pessimistic, but these were good.
God it's great to have Zapp Brannigan back. I was watching this with some friends and we all reacted to the barrel gag the same. First we laughed a little at the image of his head popping up, then we laughed more at the delivery of the line, then we practically fell over once we got the joke.
Hahahah. Yeah. If the quality of these episodes had anything to do with the reception to the movies... the movies did their job.

EDIT: Eh... I should've phrased that better. But you know what I mean.
Yeah, that felt EXACTLY like Futurama. Very, very pleased with this, especially since 3 of the 4 movies were atrociously awful. Brannigan killed it. The barrel gag, his slow explanation of what was happening in the second episode; it all killed. Great stuff. Glad to have it back.

"Stem cell research? Isn't that controversial?"

"In your time, yes. Now a days, SHUT UP."
"Besides, these are adult stem cells, taken from perfectly healthy adults, whom I murdered for their stem cells."
"Mr. President, what the hell?"
I'll admit I got a good laugh at Bender singing Coma Chameleon. Really good shows,I'm so glad it is back
post #18 of 263
Chris Elliot as V-GINY telling them to COMMENCE INTERCOURSE tickled me quite a lot.

In the first episode, Bender's partying leading straight into an awkwardly cut GASP close-up when they create robo-Leela made my brother and me bust out laughing pretty hard.
The only flat joke out of both episodes was Leela's day-long scream at the revelation of her "dead body", even then it's a nitpick. I hope the rest of the season is this strong.
So, any word about when these might air in Canada? Anything?
A quick googlin' led me to this:

But it's someone just relaying what they heard.

I really hope one of my friends recorded these(didn't realize they were showing 2).

Sean, after a few minutes in the beginning, I felt Bender's Big Score was rather strong, and felt like a self-contained movie. Agreed on the rest.
All is right with the world again. Has it really been seven freaking years since the last new episode? Jesus. I feel like I just survived Purgatory.
Thought the first episode was fantastic. Need to watch the second today.

Does anyone know if they're going to air two new eps every Thursday or was that just special for week one?

Just because I felt this deserved to be acknowledged.

As for me, I missed the second episode because my DVR had a recording error. Wonderful. I thought the first episode only had one gag that fell flat: the Professor telling them it was a COMEDY channel and they WERE ON IT! Bleh.
The episodes were shown again after midnight (mine actually skipped the first episode for some reason) but they'll also probably show them many more times before next Thursday because it's Comedy Central and that's what they do.
The first episode ended with a fetal Zapp Brannigan Slip-N-Sliding his way out of a vat of adult stem cells.

I dont know how anyone could say Futurama wasn't back in full effect after that.
So happy this is back. I don't feel like they're quite in stride yet, but I'll chalk that up to tying up loose ends from the last movie. Or maybe its just weird for me to see Fry and Leela as a legitimate couple. Regardless, I was grinning ear-to-ear for pretty much the entire hour.

And it was his little "weeeee!" as he slid out of frame that had me on the floor.
Second episode was even better than the first. I think the appropriate word is: "Squeeeeee!"

That just gave me a big ol' warm feeling inside.
So glad it's back. Loved both episodes but the first was by far the stronger of the 2. Although I do like Zap's dreams being in the form of an old B&W sci-fi serial.
2 Really great episodes. Zapp was as good as he's ever been

"So Emperor Chop-Shop, once again we meet at last..."

"I surrender and volunteer for treason!"

Thanks, Nooj. Things look kinda grim, I guess. I can only hope it does, in fact, end up arriving on Sunday.
Zapp's anguished "Arrrggghhh" when Leela caught him in a lie killed me every time.

They did great, so glad this is back in short form.
I don't know, I only saw the first episode and I thought the whole "We're back!" aspect was a little forced. Still miles better than the DVDs though.
"I surrender and volunteer for treason!" had me rolling!
Presiden Nixon calling Kiff Reptilicus was my favorite.
I disliked the movies, but I really enjoyed these two new episodes. I laughed alot despite the fact I was watching them with a sceptical eye. Now that the show has regained my trust, I hope I will be able to enjoy each new episode in a more relaxed frame of mind. Lots of great quotable lines.

I loved how Bender was ready to start partying again at the end of the first episode so soon after denouncing it forever.
Is there any website where I can legally watch this online in the USA? Comedy Central doesn't seem to carry the full episodes, which is a shame considering they do for The Daily Show and Colbert.
(urinating)

"I sure love Leela."

FRY PERSONALITY COMPLETE!

I want to know also. I missed it.
So. Happy.

Felt like Futurama to me, too. So many great moments. I particularly liked the orgy joke where everyone started out enthusiastic, then quickly realized that Amy was the only woman.

And Zapp and the barrel. And Scruffy cleaning up the crash debris by himself with a pushbroom. And the glorious look of the show in HD. And...

My favorite television show of all time is really back. Amazing.
Loved it. So glad it's back. Can you imagine the horror if the original voices/contract thing hadn't worked out? No Billy West Nixon, Zapp, Farnsworth, Fry, Zoidberg - I shudder to think. Loved Zapp's guilty chokes as his plan fell apart.

"That's all the resolution we have! Making it bigger doesn't make it clearer!" Just great - so many movies/TV shows have that stupid 'Enhance!" moment, where suddenly a blurry image on a surveillance tape becomes clear.

"Only one thing can save him! Possibly this thing!"

"Geez - what does it take to kill me?"

"Here it is - the moment we should have trained for!"

and many more. Joy.
I thought it was slightly more crass than the earlier TV eps (though not in a detrimental way). But, hey, it's Comedy Central.
Completely awful. Low brow from start to finish, too many pop culture references and not enough sci-fi or math/science gags. The pacing is off. Pretty much everything that drew me to the show in the first place is gone. This isn't Futurama, it's the Simpsons (and worse, recent Simpsons) in Space.

We should have learned from Jurassic Bark: Sometimes, it's better to let the thing you loved stay dead.
Can someone explain the joke about the new channel? They say Comedy Central, but what's all the Panama stuff etc?

I liked the forced nature of the delivery and the "I get it!!" at the end, but, uh...I kinda didn't.

I liked #1 more than #2. But as above, having the proper voice actors gets me halfway there.
The return of Futurama is awesome. Those first two episodes were great.
So, who's up for an orgy?

If it hadn't worked out there would be no show. It was a negotiating tactic. I was wondering if Fry and Leela being replaced by "fake" replicants was actually a reference to that.
