FUTURAMA Season 6! - Page 3

Definitely better than the last episode, if only for the gags. The plot was pretty lame, but there were a handful of funny moments. Loved Kif's "bad boy" look at the end.

Also nice to see that Pauly Shore and Fry's ex went the distance.
Loved this episode. Although I really wanted it to be Mom that came in and roped Bender insted of the priest.

Hermes and his circusitis might have been my favorite gag.
Oh, it was definitely funnier than last week's episode. I was just commenting on its sloppiness. Loved how the Robo-Priest was getting off by making the sinners tackle the dummies.

"Mama said Spock you out."

Yeah, loved that too. It's like a parody of the Right Wing's objection to marriage equality -- "If gays are able to get married, what's to stop toddlers and pine cones!?"

"This cattle prod should help."

"How would a ca--"

BZZZZZZZZT!

"Now get out there!"

I've quite liked three of the first four episodes. If that pace holds, I'll be a happy man.
This was a pretty damn quotable episode, really.

"WE'RE TALKING ABOUT A LOT OF THINGS!"

1 stinker for every 4 episodes would be pretty good.

That and circusitis were my favorite bits. Very quotable episode.

This Thursday's episode was the first new one I've seen, and I thought it was pretty damn hilarious. I second the love for the hilarious scene of the Robopriest getting off on the robots tackling the dummies.

Also great was the episode was followed by the classic "Mars University" Animal House/Revenge Of The Nerds spoof episode from the first season.
No great character moments, but this episode was as funny as Futurama at its best.

Awesome gag, cemented by the moment when the crowd boos and the ghost lets out a ridiculous "WOOOOOOOOO!"
Some good stuff. But overall a kind of "meh" episode.

Odd side note...comcast just added Comedy Central HD here and it's 3 hours off the normal schedule. Standard Comcast had Futurama on in it's normal slot. HD had it on 3 hours earlier. Weird...
I thought it was very funny. The professor is my favorite character, so anything where he is in the spotlight I'm going to enjoy.
All these new episodes have felt a little "off" to me.
Thought this weeks was the weakest episode of the season, by far. In the beginning, it looked like they were setting up some genuine character moments between Fry and Farnsworth, but I guess they've given up on that sort of thing. Which isn't necessarily a problem - last weeks episode did absolutely nothing with the characters, but got by on a stupid / flimsy premise because the gags were nonstop and were consistently hilarious. Last weeks ep was probably the funniest of the season so far. But the jokes mostly fell flat this week and coupled with a very flimsy premise (seriously, I don't remember Futurama ever being this dumb and nonsensical), this episode was just a dud.

Fry was almost too Cartoony. The Nerd Bully was awesome as was the Morbo game show and the running gag of Fry using a nail to hammer a nail.
Yesterday, Fresh Air had a very entertaining interview with Billy West. You can find the podcast at their site.
I really liked this episode. Also considering the selection of repeats they had on its hard to say that Fry was being too cartoony in this episode. For those who didn't see the repeats include the brains invading earth and the one where they go back in time and Fry becomes his own grandfather. Its always been consistant Fry is an idiot.
Well yeah he has always been an idiot. They just seemed to turn the dial up on this one.
I disagree. I just feel that it has been so long since we've consistently followed these characters that we've lost touch. I've started watching all of the reruns again when I can, and these episodes really feel way more "right" than we are giving them credit for, as far as I'm concerned.
Yeah, these eps have been consistently hilarious and would fit right in with the older seasons. 90% of those episodes were concentrated on the weird sci-fi concepts. The only thing that's missing is a tearjerker or character-based episode, but I'm sure one will pop up sooner or later.
I have to politely disagree. I watch re-runs of the old eps all the time, including the back-to-back ones they air around the new series, and I think the timing, the delivery, and the all-around feel of the new episodes to be just a little off. It's not a deal-breaker, but I think there's clearly a difference.

Just my humble.
I haven't seen the old series for a while, but episode 6x04 was my favourite for a long time. Just packed full of great little jokes (even if the main plot wasn't all that great). Most of those jokes have been mentioned already, but I almost choked up a lung when Bender produced the accordion and emphatically sung to Amy that they should leave.
Fry's repeated "Hi, Animatronio!" absolutely killed me for some reason. The delivery of that line is just so damn relentlessly feckless and cheerful.

For better or worse, this seems to be the trend with the new season.

Old futurama episodes could basically be broken down into 3 categories - strong, character driven episodes (Luck of the Fryrish, Parasites Lost, Jurassic Bark), weird sci-fi headtrips (Farnsworth Parabox, The Sting, Roswell That Ends Well), and weaker gag-based throwaways (just about every Bender-centric episode).

The writers seem to be recapturing the feel of the latter category just fine (weak plots, but [mostly] great gags coming quickly and consistently). But its the first two categories that really made Futurama something special. And we haven't gotten much of that... yet.
I'm weird, because I liked the DaVinci episode best so far this season. It consistently went somewhere I didn't expect.
Loved the x-ray gag at Hermes' expense.

"I'm not big-boned! I'm just fat!!!"
when the prof called bender a mortal coil i just about lost it

I loved that he had like a little kid skeleton.

Last nights episode was pretty great, although the "sith war" was kinda weak.
"You call that an ink defense?"

"It's a calculator. I ate it to gain its power."

So I've officially decided: The new FUTURAMA is just as great as it's always been.
Not to mention the genuinely touching ending. Definitely my favorite episode of the season.
"Thanks to denial, I'm immortal!"

Good Bender episode, and a rare good Hermes episode.

Cool subtle reference I'd never have noticed if it wasn't for a comment under the AV Club review: the old man who dies in the queue asking for his death certificate is apparently the same guy at the end of the queue in the old central bureaucracy episode, who was talking about how he was still waiting for his birth certificate.

This was maybe my favorite line.

And yeah the ending was pretty good.
Liked this episode a lot. The opening Star Wars stuff was dumb (but I did enjoy Scruffy - "the candle that burns twice as bright lasts half as long"), but I have a soft spot for all the Hermes / bureaucracy gags. And the ending was surprisingly touching.
The ending proves that while Futurama may have lost it, it still has it.

"Mexico: Silver Medal Winner Mexican-American War"

I was coming in here to say much the same thing. I didn't really like the episode that much. Seems like they're trying too hard these days, unconfidently cramming in extra jokes everywhere. But that ending was straight out of the original run. Gives me hope that maybe things will improve.
Supposedly next week's ep. is the best of the bunch and one of the favorites of those behind-the-scenes.

This is 100% accurate. Fantastic episode from start to finish.
Yeah, that was pretty great.

"slow down, I'll shoot Hitler from the window"
Just seeing Morbo in a news reporter trenchcoat tickled me.

This was a sweet episode. It really played to the show's strengths.
yeah good episode.

But imo it really should have ended with frys line in the restaurant: "That was the old fry ... He's dead now".
Yeah but Bender burying the Bodies was great.

And I forgot about Morbo in the trenchcoat...that was awesome.
Yeah, I really enjoyed this episode as well.
The last two episodes have taken cues from earlier Futurama episodes - Bender's defect / Leela's orphan story, and Time Machine / Roswell That Ends Well, but both were clearly more in the vein of previous Futurama than any of the others this season. I can say definitively now that the show is back.
That was an amazing episode. They played loose with modern astrophysics in a perfectly cartoonish way, had some great HG Wells references, and loads of creative visuals.

I loved the year 252525 and "We'll have to bring her 'round again."
The song was awesome too.
Oh man, that opening bit...I've so been there. Robots are ALWAYS playing the hambone in my bedroom all hours of the night.

I've just realized, Bender's singing alwyas cracks me up. Always.
That was great. Love when the show gets really funky with its science. I've lost count of the amount of times the main characters have died/been replaced with duplicates/travelled to alternate dimensions.

"What was the purpose of life anyway?"

"Who knows, probably some hogwash about the human spirit."

In the year one million and a half
Humankind is enslaved by giraffe
Man must pay for all its misdeeds
When the treetops are stripped of their leaves
post #150 of 266
Other things that made me crack up...

The little snort Leela gives when she responds to Cubert.

The Professor's drinking teeth.

The overly extended homage to the end of Planet of the Apes.

Elzar bringing cake.

That song was INDEED amazing.

In the yeeeear, twentyfivetwentyfivetwentyfiiiive...
the backwards time-machine still won't have arrived...
In all the world, there's only one technology...
A rusty sword for practicing proctologyyyyy!
