FUTURAMA Season 6! - Page 6

Gotta say, not a fan of last nights episode. The finale and premiere were by far the low points for me. Last week should have been the finale.

The video game sequence fell flat, but I enjoyed the other two well enough.  Actually using the Voltron theme scored major bonus points with me.  The lack of a framing device hurt the episode somewhat, in my opinion, as it was just three unconnected concepts strung together.  Compare this with the vastly superior finglonger episode that aired immediately afterward.  That at least had the "what if" machine to justify the different segments.

The diamond planet connected all three segments. It factored into each of them. In the first one, the crew goes to it. In the second one, the professor's achievement is made possible by what a piece of it allows his microscope to do. In the third one, aliens attack earth because they're outraged that the diamond was destroyed.

I thoroughly enjoyed each segment. The first one was cute, the second one was clever (and had my favourite jokes in Leela's innuendo and Bender's rage), and the third one was just incredibly funny, with one funny line after another. I especially appreciated it as someone who lived in Japan and has a lot of affection for the country's culture. Loved Zoidberg calling Hermes "Salaryman" and the anime homages were dead-on. I'd call this the first classic since "The Late Phillip J. Fry". Lovely ending to a very inconsistent season.

How could you not love that episode? The way things were bobbing up and down in the first segment was enough to kill me, not to mention the sheer greatness of the anime segment. I do agree the video game segment was the weakest of the three but it was still pretty funny.

I got the diamondium planet as a connective device, it just felt rather tenuous to me, and had little to do with the whole reincarnation theme.  I don't know, it just seemed there was no "why" to each segment other than "it would be cool if we did this."  Maybe it would have worked better as a season opener rather than a closer.

Not trying to be a downer or anything, as I thoroughly enjoyed 2 of the 3 bits, particularly the anime one.  I guess you and I are enemies now?

Fry getting inside Gundam Bender is one of the funniest things I have ever seen in my life.

I did like "8bit" and "Anime" Futurama....I did enjoy that everyone was constantly bouncing in "Steamboat Futurama"....

I was really hoping to see another "Anthology of Interest" though.

I'd like to think the last segment was partially a loving thank-you to the artist who did this:
(I would've really loved to see Zapp Brannigan show up in that segment though...)

Big fan of that last episode.  Quite gimmicky and not as much laugh out loud moments, but creative and fun.

I just watched the season ender for the second time (the Anime segment for the fourth) and I just wanted to ask if we can put the notion that Futurama was better off cancelled to bed? It feels as good as it ever was. I don't mean every episode is a classic, but was that ever really the case? It's a delight to have this show back, and I'm thoroughly impressed with the creativity on display here. Bring on next summer's batch.

I absolutely agree. Given how quickly and depressingly "Family Guy" went straight to hell (and never recovered) after its revival, I've been very pleased and relieved by the quality of "Futurama" since its resurrection from cancellation. I don't believe it's a show like "The Simpsons" that has classic seasons followed by mediocre or terrible seasons as it declined over time. Even in the original seasons, there were only about half a dozen episodes I found excellent every season, as most episodes were just okay or passable, but unremarkable.

I loved episodes like "The Late Phillip J. Fry", "Lethal Inspection", and "Reincarnation" almost as much as classics like "Roswell That Ends Well", "Amazon Women in the Mood", "Luck of the Fryish", and "Time Keeps on Slipping". It's still a reliable show, more frequently just passable than great, but still capable of greatness, and that's commendable given how long its hiatus was. "Family Guy" clearly lost whatever magic it once had during its downtime, but "Futurama" continues to have life in it. I think it helps that the characters in "Futurama" have always had a lot more heart and development.

Even mediocre Futurama is better than 99% of the dreck they broadcast. I'm thrilled it's back.

I don't mind that the show is back.  But I'm not excited about it as I once was.  It's definitely better than the DTV movies, but the show feels kinda sloppier than it used to.  Some would just say it's looser.  Anyway, some episodes are still a lot of fun.
