Actors who should do television

Thread Starter
Are there any actors who you think would be smart to try a tv series at this point in their careers or who you'd just like to see do tv?

Some of my choices would be:
Joan Cusack (in a sitcom worthy of her talents)
Elisabeth Shue
Thora Birch (she really doesn't deserve to be relegated to DTV fair)
Leelee Sobieski

Richard Gere. I don't really feel one way or another about him as an actor. He's ok, not terrible, not great. But maybe he could find a quality character and do good work on TV.

Michael Keaton as a down-on-his-luck detective or something along those lines. I think FX could have fun with that.

Michael Parks. So great in "From Dusk Til Dawn" and the "Kill Bill" films, yet criminally underused. Would love to see him in a "Deadwood" Al Swearengen-type part.

There're so many who would be great.

Michael Keaton in a Breaking Bad anti-hero sort of role, would rock my world.

EDIT: beaten by Dranbon. So I'll add Billy Zane!

Brendan Fraser and Bill Lawrence really need to get together and make something special. He was so good on Scrubs.

Of course, Bradley Cooper was born to play Boone Daniels in Don Winslow's The Dawn Patrol, which would work better as a series than a movie.

Joan Cusack has had a shot at headlining her own show, and it lasted two seasons. Not that she's not an incredible talent.

Elias Koteas... in anything. He doesn't deserve to be starring in shit like Skinwalkers. Maybe his small role in Shutter Island and his upcoming role in Let Me In will make him more in demand, but you never know. The Michael Parks suggestion is aces, as I recently watched Death Proof and he made essentially an extended monologue of exposition interesting. Also, will never happen, but Nic Cage starring as his character from Bad Lieutenant in a Twin Peaks-esque show would be heavenly.

Tom Cruise and Christopher Walken. You know I'm right!

Post Toy Story 3, I came in to say Michael Keaton as an anti-hero, but yeah, everyone agrees.

William H Macy would be tits as well.

Macy is actually doing the American version of Shameless for Showtime.

Well, even though Zero Effect was ripped off by Monk*. I'd love to see Bill Pullman reprise that character in a TV series format.

I was going to throw Michael Madsen in the mix... but have you seen his IMDB page!? 31 projects that are somewhere between completed and announced!

* Not that there is anything wrong with Monk, that show was great.

Val Kilmer, Ian McShane--he has demonstrated that he just does not give a fuck about his film choices as long as they meet the quote--Harrison Ford, Andy Garcia, Kurt Russell and Kevin Costner are my main picks.

I'd actually love to see Gary Oldman let loose on some episodic drama (obviously) - something a bit HBO and bent like a Carnivale-type series. Same for Alfred Molina.

I'll reverse the question. Can Film actors that go to TV go back to Film?

Let's name some of the current crop.

Carusso = I hope he does. I miss the guy.
Fishburne = He does an even split.
Mantegna = no chance
Gabriel Byrne = supporting at best
Timothy Olyphant = He's got a career in movies.
Kieffer = He can probably squeeze a comeback.
O'Donnerl and L L Cool J = Both doomed.

Surely Rick Moranis could find a place in an NBC single camera comedy.

I'm just glad to have a weekly fix of Virginia Madsen. And I don't think any of us expected the rebirth of Alec Baldwin.

Catherine Keener
Marisa Tomei
Steve Buscemi's done some fine guest shots-- it'd be interesting to see him front a series.
Isn't Buscemi a central piece of Boardwalk Empire ?
I hadn't been paying attention! Will have to put that one on my radar...
Yes he is. I was about to say Michael Shannon, but then I realized that he is on Boardwalk Empire as well. It's safe to say that I'm looking forward to that show quite a bit.

Garret Dilahunt would do well in an anti-hero role.

And here's my dream: Aaron Eckhart as Travis McGee in a period 60's action drama. Steve Carell as Meyer after he leaves The Office.

I'd love to see John C. McGinley in a juicy supporting role. There's a couple roles in Don Winslow's Savages(That'll be directed by Oliver Stone) that's perfect for him.

Jon Hamm and Jeffrey Donovan are one role away fron a good career in movies. Same with Michael C. Hall, who is just incredible on Dexter.

I just want Dillahunt to have his own show. He was a pretty solid bad guy on Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles, but him as an anti-hero would be great for sure.

(Preferably in a Western. His last Western role made me very sad.)

And I'm sure NBC would have him, but he's pretty adamantly retired at this point.

A dream would be for Dillahunt to join the cast of Justified somewhere down the line.

I like this suggestion, especially Keener.

He could be a great new Rockford.
If Dillahunt joined Justified, the Earth would explode. Only so much awesome can be put into a 43 minute show.

When I saw the post about actors that could jump from TV to the big screen these are the exact three name that came to mind.
