Just caught this film last night at the LA Film Fest. Knew nothing about it going in, but found it to be a complete blast. Kind of like if John Waters made a gory love letter to single-screen movie theaters and the horror genre itself. Also has the distinction of featuring Cassandra Peterson NOT playing her Elvira persona.
Writer/Director Joshua Grannell talked after the screening and I found him to be incredibly likable. He talked about his love of horror movies and the upcoming plan to do a multi-city tour with the film in full-on old school William Castle style (which sounds fantastic).
I've grown to kinda hate referring to something as a "throwback," especially as I often find the movies called that to be fairly unoriginal. But without resorting to lame homage or recycling, the flic really does feel from a past era. Very fun and campy and bloody and featuring a pitch-perfect performance from Natasha Lyonne.
