DarkStar One: Broken Alliance (XBox 360)

So...this is a port of a four year old PC Game and it really feels like it. Horrible voice acting, very stilted dialogue, horrible cutscene animation, in terms of presentation it's kind of ropey.

But get into the game and it's kind of great. The graphics are serviceable, if a little samey, but there's something worryingly addictive about tottling around the universe in your spaceship, robbing cargo ships, shooting pirates, trading carbohydrates, doing bounty hunter missions, upgrading your ships.

It's VERY rough around the edges, but it's a great introduction to space combat games for the console crowd.

I've played through the PC version like three times already, and it's still on my hard drive as we speak. Good, old-school Wing Commander-style space combat.

Is the 360 version pretty much a direct port?

Yeah, from what I remember of playing it originally on the PC they've literally crammed the game onto the disc, reallocated some buttons, and given it a HD makeover. The only noticebale quality dip seems to be in the audio which sounds REALLY compressed.
