XM Radio Whatthefuckever

Okay, so I now own an XM-based receiver/boombox that I got for free.

What in the hell do I do now?

Complain about how it used to be better/it's not as good as Sirius.

A cousin of mine has XM in his car. Wasn't impressed, but maybe the stations he was listening to weren't a good barometer for me to judge. Heard more than enough mainstream fare.

Wait until they're having a kick ass subscription sale ($3.00 a month or some shit) and then sign your life away for 2 years.

That's what I'm waiting for.

Activate it online (Google some codes, they might help you bypass the stupid "installation fees" or whatever) and put it next to the window. Pick whatever plan suits you best and only pay monthly to start off with. I've had friends who paid for a year and absolutely hated it from the get-go.

I just went with XM Everything.

Ignore channels 20-24. Never listen to Eminem's Shade 45 unless you want to hear the same Drake song every ten minutes. Listen to Deep Tracks ALL THE TIME. E Street and Elvis Radio are your friends. Jam out to Radio Disney like there's no tomorrow.

Jake, John Ritter just asked you to jam out to Radio Disney. I hope you mark this on your calender or something.

All I can recommend is talk stations. OutQ, The Virus, POTUS & World News are my staples.

If you're into Stern, you're set. I also listen to Lithium (90's alt station), Alt Nation, XMU(college station), Classic Vinyl and Classic rewind. They have pretty genre specific stations, which is nice.

The Jason Ellis Show on Faction. On first listen, the dude comes off like an obnoxious aggro meat head... and then you start to realize that he's actually kind of brilliant.

But yeah, Faction for punk (although it's not as good as the old XM punk channel). E Street rules all (I've spent ridiculous amounts of time being sucked into broadcast round table discussions about Springsteen during the Reagen years, etc.). XMU, although I tend to spend more time with Alternative Nation. And always, always, always Second Wave ('80s Left-of-the-Dial type indie rock).

The Boneyard, Playboy Radio (which you have to call to have activated), Cinemagic, Backspin (old school hip hop), BBC Radio 1, First Wave, Liquid Metal, seconded on the Jason Ellis Show on Faction, Raw Dog comedy, NFL Radio, Stern (for however much longer he'll be there), Scotty Ferrall (on Howard 101), Spa, Jay Thomas Show (on H101 Friday mornings, otherwise on Sirius Stars 108 I think), and Radio Classics.

Those are most of my presets on Sirius, save for Cinemagic, which you can't get on Sirius for some reason.

Put it on eBay and then download Grooveshark on your Droid.

Do you mean 1st Wave? I don't see a Second Wave on my dial (granted, I have Sirius, maybe it's an XM only station?).

D'oh. I stand corrected. It's First Wave.

Ah, then yes, that station is aces.

First Wave is great. I also enjoy Backspin, Cinemagic, The Boneyard, Faction when Ellis is on and my personal favorite...Hair Nation. Hair Nation is Dio, Stryper, Kix, Enuff Z'nuff, LA Guns, White Lion, Crue, etc.

If you're an NFL fan you MUST get the Best of Sirius package so you can hear all NFL games.
